Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

User Image

The orginal Valkyrie Profile for PSone is porting over to the PSP with widescreen capablities, and breathtaking 3D CG cutsences. There may also be some added movies that ties Valkyrie Profile to the upcomming prequel Valkyrie Profile Silmeria.

It was released on March 2nd 2006 in Japan. The US release date is currently unknown.

________________________________
Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria

User Image
The prequel to the original Valkyrie Profile.

Silmeria, the kindest and youngest of the three Valkyries, Goddesses of Fate, had been captured by Brahmes, the Vampire Lord, whom is at war with Odin. Her soul and body are crystalized in his chamber, housed in the ether element from beyond the stars.

Centuries before Valkyrie Profile, when Lenneth, or Platina, had been summoned suitable for the task of preventing Ragnarok in favor of the Gods, Silmeria was chosen in the stead of Hrist, whose harsh and relentless attitude had warred her own Einherjar against her. Silmeria is the weakest, though obviously was thought that with her methods, more souls of fallen heroes would fight for Odin and his pantheon.

Battle System Detials

How to encounter a battle: Walk into them monsters in teh map lyk before. =O

Depending on the places where you encounter these monsters, the background and the terrain of the battle field changes.

Movement Mode, Attacking Mode, Dash Command
In this game, the battles are separated into two modes. First mode is the "Movement Mode", and the second is the "Attacking Mode". Other than your character's "Normal movement" command, they also have the "Dash" command to getting closer to your enemies. The enemies will often have a greater attacking range than the human players, so you would be more likely to use the Dash command during this mode. The attacking mode is the same as the previous Valkyrie Profile game, where each character is assigned a button, O, X, Triangle, and Square. You hit that button, that character goes and attacks.

AP Guage
The yellow bar at the bottom of the battle screen is the AP Guage. You use AP to do certain commands, such as using items and casting magic, like the delay bar that we had in the previous game. You will gain AP whenever you defeat an enemy target or get hit by an enemy. Also, like in the previous game, you can get AP Stones from enemies when you hit them in the air, so you can continue attacking as much as you can as long as you have enough AP. So making use of Aerial Combos would be the key to victory in this game.

Leader Assualt and Bonus Gauge
Additional features has been added to this Battle System, such as the "Leader Assuault" and "Bonus Gauge", to make the battles more speedy. Leader Assault is when you defeat the Leader of the enemy packs first and win the match without having to bother with the other monsters. However, if you fail to defeat the leader before your AP runs out, all the monsters will attack you at once, which will be painful. @_@ As for other questions about this matter, such as whether if you get any EXP for the monsters you didn't kill by this method, it doesn't really say on the website.

The Bonus Gauge is the gauge on the right side of the battle screen, and starts out full at the beginning of the match. As you move and attack, the guage depleats. The more you have Bonus Gauge left at the end of the battle, you get more Bonus EXP and other Bonus features it may have. So by making use of the Leader Assault feature, you can finish the battle faster and get more Bonus Gauge's bonuses.

Radiata Stories

User ImageRadiata Stories is game made by Tri-Ace. Since no one in the thread currently has the game at the moment, we'll still you you in on what we know about it. There are 177 characters, and most of these characters are townspeople that live their own lives through a time schedule. There are several ways to influence your party in battle, though you can only have control of Jack. There is a command system for giving orders, and a link mechanic allowing you(and enemies) to regulate formations, and coordinate attacks.

The story in the game is branched in two distinct paths. Each path has unique content, and a seperate ending. This means you must play through the game twice to get the whole story, and all 177 characters. But there is a suprise for those who sound dissapointed. When you beat the game, you can start a new game with with all the money and skills you finished with. This makes the replay value really high.

Also there are some surpising things and people you can come accross that may surprise those who played previous Tri-Ace titles. The only one I'll reveal is Jack has an armor that can make him look like Fayt in Star Ocean Till the End of Time. WOOT!!

Official Valkyrie Profile Thread

I just recently noticed how my Official SO3 thread sort of disappeared from my list of threads that I post in, as well as the subscription thing, so.. o.o' Making a new one. This time, covering all tri-Ace games, which includes the Star Ocean series and Valkyrie Profile.

Edit: The thread was found. It was some Gaia glitch or something. x_x Here's a link for those that wants to see.

Of course, I've beaten 3, including the strongest boss. Unfortunately only in Galaxy Mode.. and I've beat Blue Sphere, the sequel to SO2, as well as play the unique VS mode they have on it with my little brother. o_o'

Just thought that people might be interested in some things that I know there.

Geeze. I can't believe what some people say about SO3. Couldn't stand it in this one thread. @_@ So... I ended up posting in there. I'll just put it here too to let you guys see, cause.. I'dno. It just seems obsurd when I see things like that..

Laur~en~Ciel
I got the game for full price.. because someone bought it for me for Christmas. I would never have bought it for that much, since the game is only.. okay. I'd give it a 7.75.. because I don't like the gaming style, the music is horrible, and the graphics aren't that good. Meh. It's worth it for $20.. but, DEFINITELY not 50 shtankan dollars.

Music horrible? THE Motoi Sakuraba composed these BGMs, with him using an actual band and a whole orchestra! He usually sticks with his 10 synthesizers for most BGMs in other games, such as previous Star Ocean series, Valkyrie Profile, I believe Radiata Stories, Golden Sun, and possibly more! I don't know what you've been listening to, but I highly recommend Sakuraba's works.

Graphics not good? Alright. Sure, they have a bit lower polygon count than say FFX. However, that's to prevent game lag. The game is so fast paced and has lots of things going on at once, they need to do this to keep the game itself smooth. Fast frame rates and smooth transitions count as graphics too, you know. And you know how FFX had those pre-set movements where they just loop the same... every action, including mouth movements in the game? Well, Star Ocean doesn't even do that. The mouth synch is VERY nicely done in Star Ocean 3. .. Atleast in Japanese. x_o; I played it in Japanese, so I don't know about it in English, but.. yeah.

Also gaming style.. ? You mean gameplay? Hell. ALL tri-Ace's games CONCENTRATE on gameplay and replayability. If you don't like it, that's fine. But hell. I personally think it's one of the best I have played in any RPG.

I have just recently beat Tales of Symphonia, and since these two games tend to have some sort of rivalry between them, despite their similar origins, I think this is an appropriate comparison. I think the character development in Tales of Symphonia might've been better than SO3, mainly with all those Z-skits and how SO3 seemed to be lacking a bit in the APA system compared to the previous SO games. However, in terms of difficulty and gameplay, I definately liked SO3 a lot more.
Have you played Valkyrie Profile?
Star Ocean 2 = insanely good. One of my favorites of all time. 3nodding
Ragnarok Ninja X
Have you played Valkyrie Profile?

Actually, that's the only tri-Ace game that I've never played yet. x_x I'm really really interested in playing it, as I've heard about it a lot from other players.

I used to have a movie file of someone doing nearly 1.5 million damage in one hit in it. Not the total damage from a combo, but just one hit on an enemy.
Yeah! A fellow SO lover! ^^
I have long ways to go before beating SO2 OR 3 sweatdrop
As for SO, I accidently erased my save file! crying Now I don't have the heart or effort to replay the whole thing again....it was fun while that lasted though.

sweatdrop
What the gay!??!111oneone
Star Ocean patch is still only at 90%
I'm gonna wait till 100% then I'll start Star Ocean. :3
Let's see.. Some details on the battle system in SO:BS maybe?

Since this is on a GBC, can't be too special or anything, but.. yeah.

It's basically in 2D, and you can have up to 3 characters in your party at once.

The good thing is though, you get all 12 characters in this game. Start off with 8 of them infact. Everyone except Claude, Rena, Ernest, and Opera. You get them later on in the story.

Anyway, your max HP and MP are 999, which makes it difficult.. @_@ and how only one person in your party can be attacking at a time. Also, the enemy is always on the left side, your guys on the right. So.. you can't really gang up on the enemies because of this. There's no worries about monsters ganging up on you though, since you fight one monster at a time in this game.

Anyway, on the positive side, it's all about Combos in this game. When you're using a Physical, Melee-type character, and hit the enemy with the A button attack, by hitting A again on contact on your enemy, you unleash a second attack in a combo, while the enemy would be stunned from the hit. When the enemies are hit and are in a combo, they will not be able to do anything at all. Sometimes they block the whole combo though. Technically, you can have an infinitely long combo, but it's hard to pull off because of a few reasons.

1. Some characters' attacking range varies. What type of attack you unleash depends on the distance between your character and the enemy, and how long your combo is at that time. Because of this though, sometimes you might jump over the enemy instead in an attack, missing, ending the combo there. x_x Which sucks bad because if the enemy starts to attack then, your character is basically forced to go back to the right side of the enemy, and you'll be vulnurable then.

Btw, one good character with the combos are Bowman. Most of his attacks usually hit, and he doesn't move around too much in his attacks. Also, it's easier to combo because it doesn't have any unusual patterns, such as Dias, who'll sometimes attack instantly when you hit A, and other times, has a delay charging up for some attack, which can throw you off. If you hit A at the wrong time, it'll automatically end the combo. ( No button mashing for j00! )

2. There is a Stamina stat, where if your character is too active in a short period of time, they'll get tired, and not be able to move at all until either you get hit, or rest long enough. ( And this can be pretty long too. 5 or even more seconds probably. @_@ ) However, when you're in a combo, you can keep on going until the combo ends. So if you get a hit, it's probably good to keep it going as long as you can to deal a huge amount of damage. ( You'll need to master this in order to beat the later monsters and bosses. @_@ You probably won't last too long without it. )

So after a long combo, you'll more likely not be able to make a second attempt until they hit you or you wait a few seconds for you to recover. Of course, you can try with a second character while they're resting. ... Kind of annoying switching battle styles though.

3. And finally, some enemies have different masses. Why does that matter? Some enemies, when you hit them, if they're light, they'll fly back pretty far each hit, so the distance between you and the monster is unstable, since you'll be using different combo attacks, due to the distance between them constantly changing. ( Of course, you move towards them, but that also differs from what combo attack you're using. ) So it'll make timing your attacks difficult, especially for Dias and Claude.

And some enemies, that are huge, will go back only by a little, so once you get too close, your characters will start doing difficult to combo attacks, like.. Dias, when he jumps at the enemy to attack. You jump over them after a while, thus ending your combo. Claude.. x_X He friggin starts to punch the enemy instead, which isn't that strong, and it's sort of hard to time, as each punch starts to become slower or something, throwing off your timing. The interval in which you press the A Button to continue the combo gets shorter I think.. I usually only reach up to 5 or 6 hits with him..

So.. yeah. It's kinda hard doing these things.

.. Also, if you want, you can end your combo with a special attack by using the B Button. You can't combo special attacks though.

.. Yeah. More details later if someone asks for them. @_@
Bump for all those Star Ocean related topics I've been seeing floating around lately. @_@
No one seems to be noticing this thread.. Bump.

I can provide you guys with a lot of Star Ocean info if you want, like my old Official Star Ocean 3 Thread that I've had for a while.
Btw, if you guys want me to make a good combo out of your SO3 characters' moves, please post what skills they know. o.o' I played the game in Japanese, and I don't really know what the skills are called in the English games, as they've made a couple of changes during the translations.

I have come up with a lot of fairly nice combo moves that will deal nice amount of damages.
x_x Hm.. Trying to come up with a discussion here is tough..
Well, I'd like to discuss... SO2 got me from the very first minute. SO3 is a real must! and SO1 is hard to get (but I got it :] ) So what do you want to discuss?
Yay! ^^ I found this thread again!
Hey I've always been wondering but what's the story line to Star Ocean:BS? eek I remember I saw it when I was visiting my relatives, but back then I didn't have a GBC.... grr. stressed
Well, umm, seeing as I've played through most of Valkyrie Profile (on Normal... so not completely) I COULD impart information on the game if you like.

I warn you! I haven't played it for years, and I can't find it anymore for some odd reason, so everything you ask may not get a 100% accurate answer whee
