EVOBUGS! - they evolve, they fight, they breed, they show, they have it all and they are here!

What ARE Evobugs?
Briarbugs are virtual pets! They come in 2 species, the Evobug and the Bugbug. The Evobug is the ulta awesome evolving pet that goes through 6 life stages and has 40 possible final outcomes. You can keep these pretties in your Gaian signature, on your personal website or journal/blog or post them in other forums. The more you and others interact with your Briarbugs the more your bug will grow and evolve! See the second post for more information!

26 Dec 04 :: Finally the first 4 Evobugs have been delivered! *whew*
21 Dec 04 :: About to send out the first 4 evobugs to Burrowed Lurker, Madam deGrandpre (when she tells me what colour she wants!), Morigale and Damia Grynn! Bear with me guys I've made all the customisations except for Paige's and I'm just dealing with some server crap! You will see them soon, hopefully later tonight.

How do Evobugs work?
Briarbugs start out as a small egg. It is your task to make sure your egg is fed and played with by other people AND given extra attention by YOU. The more you and others interact with your egg, the more experience points (exp) it will earn. When it gains enough exp, your Evobug earns it will gain a level, when your egg has gain enough levels it will hatch into a Briarbuglet! You must then take care to raise your buglet well and if you do, it may evolve!

Are Evobugs a lot of work...?
Nope! Your evobug will do fine if left to itself, however, it needs lots of attention, feeding and love to evolve, training to become a good fighter and grooming and nurturing to become a top pet.

Can Briarbugs fight?
Well they'd be fairly dull if they couldn't! Of course Briarbugs can fight, what kind of crappy virtual pet do you think this is? At the moment pet-pet interactions have been disabled but I solemnly swear to have them restored as soon as I chase all the bugs out. Damn progamming is tricky sometimes...

Can Evobugs breed?
Of course! Do you not realise these are the BEST virtual pets around? The only catch is that you pet MUST be fully evolved before it can breed.

Wow, is there anything else they can do?
Yep. As well as showing off your bug's fighting ability in battles you can show off your bug's "pet" qualities in Evobug pet show playoffs. Yes. It's cool. I know.

What are the different ways Briarbugs can be interacted with?
Anyone (your friends and yourself included) is able to feed your pet a treat (once per hour) or play with your pet (once per 3 hours). The owner will have special interactions including reading to the bug, grooming the bug, training the bug's attack, training the bug's accuracy and so on.

What stats do Briarbugs have and how do interactions change the stats?
Your Briarbug has 10 "features" that can change depending on how it is interacted with. These features are made up of:
-=:+: Two "states" these are not actually stats as such because they are not PART of your pet. All pets get very hungry if not fed and very full if fed lots.
1) Hunger (gradually increases and is reduced when bug is fed)
2) Boredom (gradually increases and is reduced when bug is played with)
-=:+: Eight stats that are PART of your pet. These do not change except to increase when you (the owner) interact with your Briarbug in a certain way (eg "read to Briarbug" will increase intelligence) They are comprised of four "battle" stats:
=: Attack (constant, increases when bug is trained in attack)
=: Defense (constant, increases when bug is trained in defense)
=: Accuracy (constant, increases when bug is trained in accuracy)
=: Speed (constant, increases when bug is trained in speed)
Battle stats determine how well your bug does when two bugs battle each other.
And also four "pet" stats:
=: Intelligence (constant, increases when bug is read to)
=: Beauty (constant, increases when bug is groomed)
=: Talent (constant, increases when bug is nurtured)
=: Attachment (constant, increases when bug is cuddled)
Pet stats determine how well your pet does when two pets engage in a pet show playoff.

Are there accessories?
Fully evolved pets will have clothing accessories to purchase, there will also be charms, potions, spells, scrolls and stones to increase your pets stats not to mention lovely toys to stock your toyshelf with and slow your pet's bordom meter!

About Evobug Stages of Life
Evobugs start out as eggs, hatch into buglets and then evolve into a fully grown bug. But here the evolution only BEGINGS. After the first three life stages your evobug will evolve 3 more times and how YOU nurture your pet will determine how your evobug evolves! Liek omg kewl!!1one. wink

How can I get an Evobug!?!
Common varieties will be randomly flatsaled while rare varieties and perhaps customs will be auctioned from time to time. Just keep your eyes peeled.

<center>The Story of the Briarbugs</center>

Part Ia: The Dark Briar
The Dark Briar is a wild thicket of black, thorny rosebush-like plants that ramble untamed over many acres of land. Few animals are small enough to negotiate the sprawling black briar and most of those small enough have no desire to be there. Not only are the menacing black thorns of the briar sharp, but they are tipped with a peculiar poison that causes immediate paralysis and slow raising of the body temperature until the unfortunate vicitm succumbs to death. Every night, the black briar blooms and from amoungst the black thorns and purplish leaves emerge pure white flowers, like huge roses that open and fill the air with a heavy, beguiling perfume.

Part Ib: the ledgend of the Dark Briar
Many legends abound as to how the myserious Dark Briar came into being. The most favoured is that it sprang from a single white rosebush that grew in the garden of a magician. The magician tended the bush faithfully every day using spells to keep it ever watered and happy. But when the magician's power became great, he forgot the rosebush and left it to wither forgotten and alone. At first the bush began to die but then it stopped, it found a source of power within itself that the magician had unwittingly bestowed in small amounts with every spell he cast to nurture the rosebush. The rosebush hardened its sorrow into dark bitter thoughts directed at the magician. And the rosebush began to grow, feeding from its black hatred until, black, thorny and gnarled, the dark briar had enveloped the magician's entire estate, imprisoning him inside his palace. The magican's spells could do nothing for the briar had grown so strong from its bitter hatred that its powers now surpassed his own. In a vain effort the magician tried to hack his way through the briar with a steel axe, but the briar lashed at him with its menacing thorns and seeped its bitter poison into his blood. The magician died there but the briar lived, spreading further across the landspace in a twisted torrent of black thorns.

Part II: The Briarbugs
Though the Dark Biar, has the semblance of an acursed place, there is far more to the gnarly wild bramble than meets the eye. Isolated sanctuary afforded within the mysterious thorny limits of the Dark Briar has become the haven for a curious species of animal, the Briarbug.

Wow more, how exciting. Okay hopefully these previews are giving you the idea I'm trying to convey -- that your evobug can look very VERY different depending how you raise it. If you nurture your pet's intelligence... who knows, it may look a little like this!
