"... It's dark…"
"...I can't see…"
"…Help me…"

It was a dark night in the city, New York City that is.. The immigrants ship had just came in, and a lone little girl had laughed and giggled as she ran down the stairs to America. She had come from Germany, escaping the hardships her and her family had to go threw. She looked back with joy and wide eyes, seeing her lovely mother of 30 and her father of 43 behind her. The two parents smiled at her, and took her hands and lead her to what would be their new home.
It took several hours for them to become registered immigrants, but it was all worth it to the German family. A young man with brown hair and brown eyes and brown skin was holding a puppy, standing beside the booth where the girls parents where signing up. Being the parents where busy, they weren't really keeping a close eye on their child, and she had walked over to the man.
The man smiled to the girl, being used to the stares from other immigrants, he must of looked extremely different to the girl. She had never seen an African American in her life, but the man understood that quite well.
"I'm from Africa little girl, where are you from?" He asked with a kind tone, his brown eyes shining with the child's reflection.
"..G…Germany sir.." she said shyly, chewing on her sleeve as she looked to the puppy. The man only gave a light chuckle and kneeled down, holding out the small dog.
"I found him in a dumpster, someone must of abandoned him.. He's a Welsh Corgie, isn't he cute?" The man explained kindly to the girl, letting her pet the small creature. The girl giggled and pet the puppy, it must of only been six weeks old. It was tan with white markings, and it was a bit mangy for it had been neglected for some time, and obviously had fleas. The girl didn't care, she held the puppy and smiled, looking up to the man.
"Are you going to keep him?" She asked with her squeaky voice and heavy accent, the man simply shook his head.
"I don't have enough money to feed him and myself I'm afraid, I am actually looking for a home for him." He replied, which made the girl's face glow with glee. She called to her parents, and her father turned and gave the man an aquard glance. The man smiled to the girl's father and stood, holding out his hand.
"No need to fear sir, I wont harm your daughter. My name is Alma." He explained, and the German man smiled and shook the man's hand.
"Goten Tag." He replied, before looking to his daughter and the puppy. "What is it?" asked the father, and the girl held up the puppy.
"Mr. Alma said this puppy doesn't have a home, can we keep him?" She asked, and the father looked up to Alma. Alma simply nodded his head and smiled, which caused her father to nod in return.
"I don't see why not, we could use a dog. I'll tell your mother, you say thank you to this nice man." He said, before standing and shaking Alma's hand again, before bowing his head and going back to his wife. The little girl looked up to Alma and beamed, hugging the puppy tight.
"Thank you Mr. Alma!"
"Your quite welcome dear.. may I ask your name?" He replied, patting the girl's head.
"It's Greta sir." She smiled, and the man nodded.
"It was nice meeting you Greta. Take care of the little guy."
"I will! thank you sir!" She smiled, then ran after her parents with the puppy.
The man smiled and put on his hat, tucking it down over his eyes as he tucked his hands into his pocket, and walked away. Disappearing in thin air as if he never existed.
The girl walked along with her parents, holding and petting the puppy as it slept.
It wasn't long before the family of Germans where in a taxi, and on their way to their first American apartment. The girl had rapped a bracelet around the puppy's neck, as a collar till they could get a real one. The girl was happy, the mother was happy, and the father was happy. Little did they know such wonderful times couldn’t' last. It began to rain, a saver down poor, and hail soon followed. The driver hadn't been driving very long, and was going out of control.
It wasn't long before the car had crashed in the gutter, it was in a three-car accident. By the time the ambulance got there it was too late, the girl and her parents where dead. The puppy laid there in the girls lifeless arms, whimpering and nuzzling around for warmth. But alas it didn't find any, the puppy wondered out in the cold pouring rain, trying to find shelter or it's owners warmth, but alas it only found the a large black bear and it's cub. The bear in defense attacked and killed the puppy.
The puppy's body was later found by the police when they where searching the crash site, the woman who found it gave a sad frown and picked up it's lifeless body, and took it back to the family. She could tell it was the girls, because the bracelet the puppy was wearing, had only one fraise engraved into it. "Ein Yougen".
They all had died before they could even begin to live..
