Pae'il Information
History:
Telrunya has only recently (within the last two hundred years) become a peaceful island, floating high above the lands of Gaia. It is accessible only through certain portals scattered throughout Gaia. When the isle was originally discovered by Tiaphanu, it was inhabited by various wildlife including a variety of birds, fish, and game. The dominating inhabitants, however, were called Pae'il. Their race was dying out, and Tiaphanu was implored by the Guardians of Telrunya to help, which resulted in the current shop.
A note on the Guardians. The Guardians are something of a high council of Immortal Elders. They were the very first ten Pae'il to attain Elder status in the Beginning Years, though this elevation in status and form came with different abilities at the time. These Elders became more like Gods and Goddesses of Telrunya. They took it upon themselves to care for the inhabitants of the island and to guide them, but in doing so they changed what powers any future Elders could obtain; immortality and other god-like abilities were taken away. During the Battle of the Ages the Guardians de-tached themselves form the isle and now communicate with the Pae'il solely through their faery guides, though in a few documented desperate cases they have appeared in person.

Over the centuries, Pae'il had evolved into 2 seperate types; Angel and Demon. Their appearances altered to suit their alignment. Originally these were the only types thought to exist on Telrunya, but a recent discovery in an ancient text may indicate otherwise. The following was written long ago by an angelic Pae'il Elder:
Ancient Excerpt:
The Guardians have sent us mediators in hopes of healing the rift between us Angels and the Demons. But the Demons are a disgrace to our beautiful race, and we will not belittle ourselves to accept them as Pae'il. These 'mediators' can try all they wish, but all Angels know they are superior. The Guardians have made these creatures in our likeness, to an extent. They look more like our gu--
The text cuts off there. This excerpt, coupled with the recent merging with the Ancient City of the Balan Levain, gives us a good view of Telrunya's past, and what the land was once like.
- - * - -
Hundreds of years ago, Telrunya was a much larger island. Kippu River once flowed through the Ancient City of the Balan, rather than off the island. The City housed the majority of the Balan Levain, who were close friends and allies of the Pae'il, though some Balan lived in small villages all over the island. However, the Pae'il race was in trouble. The Angelic Pae suddenly began to think themselves higher and superior to their Demon counterparts. The Demons only conrtibuted to the growing rift between the species by seperating themselves completely from the Balan and the Angelic Pae and forming their own villages and towns.
Soon the battles began. The Balan Levain fled to their City and left the Pae'il territories. The Demons had the advantage in numbers, but the Angels were much more attuned to nature and had developed their magical abilities. Civil war engulfed all of Telrunya, with no solution in sight.
At some point during the Battle of the Ages, it seems the Guardians of the isle sent down a new type of Pae'il to try to mend the differences between the Originals. Unfortunately we have very little information on this third alignment, and it has yet to be seen. It is believed the type had died out sometime after their efforts to bring the Angels and Demons together had failed, but this is still unconfirmed.
Shortly after the failure of the third alignment, the Balan Levain appealed to the Guardians for a different kind of help. They realized that their once good and peaceful friends would never get along again, and the Balan were starting to fear for their own lives. The Guardians eventually came to a decision; they would spare the Balan by seperating their city from the island and allowing it to descend onto Gaia, and in doing so they would punish the Pae'il for their arrogance and hateful ways. This event in history was called the Great Sundering.
With their awesome powers the Guardians rent Telrunya and the City of the Balan apart. To punish the Pae'il, they did nothing to cushion the earth-shattering effects of the Sundering for the island, while the City itself felt little at the tearing. However, because the Balan had requested such an extreme and permanent action, the Guardians let the city fall to Gaia. The crash was cataclysmic, but no information on surviving Balan has been found. The Great Sundering caused not only a total change of landscape for the island, but also near total destruction of every structure built by the Pae'il. Many Pae were killed in the Sundering and many ancient documents and even technologies were lost. The surviving Angels and Demons were forced to get along in order to survive the following centuries.
- - * - -
Today's Pae'il remember nothing of their horrible past. When Tiaphanu agreed to help the Pae'il race flourish again, she was given only a small number of eggs to start with. Any other adult Pae'il died shortly before the new hatched. At the precise moment in time of the first hatching, the Fifth Age began. This was to be a better Age, one of peace between the Angels and the Demons, as it once had been. In order to preserve this peace, all historical documents pertaining to the Third Age of warfare and hate between the alignments had previously been locked away. Only recently has Tiaphanu been given permission from the Guardians to release this information.
A note on the Ages of Telrunya. The First Age was the Beginning of Time for the Pae'il race, and included the elevation of the first ten Elders and their limiting of future Elders' powers. The Second Age was more of an intellectual age and period of growth. This was when the Pae'il came fully into their magical powers and grew closer to nature. Many texts were published on studies of both the Demon and Angel types, as well as the extent of their powers, however most, if not all of these documents were lost in the Great Sundering. The Second Age also included the introduction of the Balan Levain, and the closeness shared between the two species. The Third Age marks the end of Pae'il growth and the beginning of alignment seperation. This was the worst Age for the Pae'il and Balan alike. The Ascension of the Guardians was the beginning of the end of this age, and the Sundering marks the end of the age. All information on the Balan Levain after this point is lost to the Pae'il. The Fourth Age, also known as the Wandering Years, was also a very hard time for the Pae'il. Almost all of their information from the Second Age was lost, their once beautiful cities were destroyed, the lands of Telrunya had shifted, and no form of society or heirarchy survived. Re-building took place eventually, but nothing was ever constructed to match the former glory of the ancient structures. The Fifth Age began at the exact moment of the first hatching of the 'new' Pae'il. In these Pae'il rested all the hopes of the Guardians that the past would not be repeated. So far, the Guardians are extremely pleased.
Also a note on the Balan Levain. While the societies of the Pae'il and the Balan were integrated, the Balan Levain were still somewhat aloof. All of their important documents were kept within their Ancient City, and privy only to their own race. After the Sundering, any information the Pae'il had on the Balan was lost.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -*- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Pae'il live on Telrunya Isle, the floating island in the clouds. Entering and leaving the Isle is done through Landing Circle. Dragnid Forest is a dangerous place, but Loka Nei Forest is safe, and the Fae Clearing in it gives off a slightly magical feel. Waplei'Ri Pond is a fantastic fishing spot, and while Pae'Kippu beach is quite sunny and relaxing, Chai'en beach is better for being completely alone. Neither of the mountains have really been explored.. but there seems to be a few caves. Also, Falassion House of Healing is a resting place on the eastern end of the Island, staffed by Water and Earth Fae.
Journal Entry
December 24th, 2004: Well, journal, here I am. Plenty has gone on, but yeah, now is when I chose to start this. As elder quests may be coming up soon, I figured I better put something in here first. For the purpose of this journal, my (Raikhas') entries will be in olive, as it's the standard color in here.
..........I, Toga, will be writing in dark red, as it is my usual color of identification. Hello, journal, by the way... A ton has happened.. much too much to summarize quickly. What, I guess, is useful information, is that I was Rai's first Pae'il, the first batch to be found, and that Talaris is my adopted child, a daughter of Sol and Estra, my good friends, in the Pae'il world.
..........As for me, Talaris, I'll write in indigo. I finally can write in here, which is why Rai finally showed me and Toga the journal. She'd kept it and put our pics and info and everything into it, and just recently showed us this record she'd kept. Well, journal, later!
..........We three should be the only writers in this journal, unless someone finds it, which shouldn't normally happen. And thus, I'll end this entry.
December 30th, 2004: Well, I took this with me. I don't know why. After what Signis did, I don't really remember what I did, I just know that I'm here now. Where? Dragnid, journal, Dragnid Forest. A place only Raikha would go to, maybe Torvil, I don't know. I know that only the strongest people I know would come here, yet.. here I am. When Raikha left for some elder problem that concerned her, she said something about coming here to find someone called "the Questor". I guess that's who I should be looking for now. I sense Talaris coming, she's trying to find me.. Wish me luck, journal- I think Talaris and I are going questing.
A page of Toga's journal seems to have been taken over by a magic force. Neat scriptive writing of an unnatural glowing gold slowly appears on the page, forming a message specifically for Toga. It is a Quest, and if she so chooses to accept this Quest, she will be granted the ultimate reward; the rare and coveted Elder form.
The message reads:
There is a space left at the bottom of the page for Toga's signature. If she accepts her quest, she must sign the page.
The message reads:
Quote:
~ -*- ~
Dearest Toga,
Your strength, determination, and hardworking nature have called our eyes to you, Toga. You have trained hard and long, and you have shared your skills well. Our task for you may seem difficult, but we have the utmost confidence in your abilities and your stamina. If you so choose to accept this Quest, you will be granted the Elder form.
For your Quest you must:
- journey to Aura Nin Mountain
- find the Dragon Master of Fire's cave
- prove to him you are adept in the element of Fire
- recieve part of the Dragon's heart in his passing
- you may not make use of your flying abilities at any time!
The Dragon Master of Fire is one of the last few Masters remaining on Telrúnya, and he will not be with us for much longer. He has reached his end, and he as accepted this and looks forward to ascending to the Heavens and joining us Guardians. However, his only pupil passed away several years ago, and the honored Dragon himself cannot ascend without having someone to carry on the title and responsibilities of a Fire Master. We believe your talents in this area to be worthy, though you must still prove to him you are proficient in this skill. Once you have convinced him and he has accepted your abilities as a Fire Master, the revered Dragon will finally be able to ascend in peace. He will give you half of his heart to meld with your own, and you will assume your title. His conscience will also be available to you this way, in case you need to call on his vast wisdom.
Once your hearts have been joined, all will go white and you will be brought back to the Pae'il Headquarters, but you will not be of anything substantial. When you take on your final, Elder form, you will be the new GrandMaster of Fire and your abilities with the element will be increased. We hope you use your talents for greater good.
We will be watching, and hoping for the best.
With Love,
The Guardians
Quest Role Play
..........Toga saw the entry and stood there, dumbstruck. After signing, she put Aeth to a trot and got out of the forest as soon as she could, onto some path. She felt for Talaris, knowing where she was meant home was that way; she pushed Aeth to a run, heading towards Kippu River.
..........At last she arrived at the House of Healing and dismounted from Aeth, letting him drink from the fountain. She politely declined the Fae's offer of a relaxing bath, but did take a drink from the fountain, a tier above Aeth. Leaving Aeth, she started on foot towards the nearest mountain, remembering from her maps that it was Aura Nin.
..........By nightfall she had gotten up about twice as high as the top of hq, climbing steadily, but carefully. She sighed, tired, and looked around. A cave? Is that a.. she moved closer to the shadow she saw and gasped, moving to the cave. She then slipped, grunting as she cut herself, but grateful for the small ledge she felt under her foot. "Ungh..." Approaching the cave, she felt it getting slightly warmer.
..........Finally, she reached the cave, expecting the usual ominous mystery caves were famous for. Instead, she found it bright, lit by some unseen fire. A bit afraid, not having Raikha's confidence, she ventured futher into the cave, beginning her trek to find the Dragon Master...
..........Forcing herself forward, Toga was surprised to feel the area get warmer and warmer, yet she continued to see no source for such heat. She frowned, not ever reading that Aura Nin was any sort of volcano.
..........She awoke, hours later, to bird chirps outside echoing into the cave Damn! When did I... she frowns, looking around and wondering when she fell asleep. The cave was still brightly lit, even with the morning sunlight at the end of the cave. She stood and, leaning a bit on the cave wall, moved in farther into the lit cave.
..........The heat intensified as she moved deeper through the cave, and Toga began noticing a very subtle decline. The air burned her nostrils and started stinging her eyes.
Quest Role Play
..........Hours later, or what seemed like hours later to Toga, after going through tunnel after tunnel, Toga gasped, gripping the cave wall to stabilize herself. The tunnel just.. opened. A room as vast as the sky itself was set out in front of her, a giant, gaping hole- and every wall in it was aflame and looked like lava, just cool enough to not flow down the walls. She stared openly as, directly in front of her, a humongous, deep blood red face of a dragon rose into her vision.
..........Toga, daughter of Fire, welcome. Welcome to the lair of the Dragon Master of Fire!
The booming, deep, male human voice echoed in her own mind, the tone amused and confident. Somehow, she could have swore she had heard it aloud too.
I would have thought that Raikha, Fire Elemental Protectorate of the High Council of K?ó¤¬ would have chosen someone of her own blood as my successor, but then again, Raikha has her ways, and she must have seen much strength in you.
The gigantic head nodded and blinked slowly, in respect for his fellow elder
Now, Toga, come into the cave.. you may not be able to fly, but you can descend- Do so.
..........The little Pae'il stepped forward, proud to hear of Raikha like that. Her temporary haughtiness, however, did not stop her from swooping down over what definitely looked like molten lava.. She gasped again, being plopped down on her butt onto some island-like turf. The dragon, towering above her looked down and frowned. It had huge, crimson wings and seemed absolutely covered in enormous scales, the smallest about the size of her head. But, in an instant he was gone; in his place stood a young human man, a bit taller and older than Torvil would be, and much more widely shouldered. His dark furrowed brows matched dark eyes, but his hair was whitish silver, with only stripes of black in the loose pony-tail it was in. The square jaw and wizened arrogant expression matched the dragon in a personal, constant reminding way.
..........Well, now, young one. Come, stand already. I'm old and tired, so we might as well get this battle going.
..........Toga stood, gulping. This man? She couldn't beat him, she couldn't even hurt him! She bit back the tons of questions running through her mind, choosing to go with her instincts instead
"tell me what to do, Dragon Master of Fire.."
..........He laughed aloud
Ahh yes.. I didn't forget, young one. You see, I am your quest. You are to become a certain type of elder, Toga, daughter of Fire, and that is a Mistress of Fire.
The Dragon Master chuckled, his strength never leaving him for a second,
Your Raikha will be your Protectorate as well, but then again, she already is, now isn't she?
His smile indicated that he knew much more than he was sharing, but Toga thought it best not to ask.
To do this, I must ascend, for there cannot be two of us alive at one time. You must be a part of me; I must sacrifice a part of my heart to you. But you see,..
..he started walking around Toga in a large circle
I do not donate myself for just anyone; Raikha may have seen talent in you- I want proof. So, Toga, daughter of Fire...
He paused and spun to face her, in front of her again
....so fight me.
Quest Role Play
..........Shivers running down her spine, she closed her eyes and gathered all her strength, absorbing what she could from the atmosphere of the fire cave itself. Toga silently called to Raikha, who had been absent from her life at such a critical time, called upon her power and her strength in this moment now. Her hands moved together unconsciously, as if holding a ball; it was into this gap that she sent this power, concentrated it into her hands. "I am ready."
..........The brawny man in front of her smirked, nodding slowly
Well, the young one does have power. You invite me to strike first? ...Then I shall.
Suddenly eevn the air around her seemed to sear Togas skin, her nostrils burned, and even her closed eyes stung. She gasped for breath, choking out a half yelled out "Nooo!" in rage. She fell to her knees hard, pebbles and even ground grinding into her legs. In all her pain, she held onto her little ball of power with all her might.
..........As the air disappated slowly, she shook, never having opened her eyes, and, surprising the Dragon Master, Toga stood to her feet again.
"I said... NO!" shaking as she yelled the final word, she opened her arms, seeing the man, and the room, as clearly as if her eyes were open and perfectly fine. The ball hovered where her hands left it, moving up in front of Toga's chest.
And her power burst.
..........It engulfed Toga, then the Dragon Master of Fire, taking over the caves lair. Everything was, all at once, an inferno, the walls reaching new high temperatures, the lava coming to life. Toga shook violently as the explosion turned to a wave and, just as the Dragon Masters' attack, turned into a sweltering wave of heat, pouring out through the various tunnels and passing into the pores in the cave walls.
Quest Role Play
..........The intense, bold voice sounded again, this time not as she had first heard it, intimidating and heady, but more passionate and lusty than ever a voice she had heard before,
You have truly proven yourself to me, Toga, daughter of Fire. Guardians of the Light! I, once the Dragon Master of Fire, yield myself, my soul, and my being to Toga, the Master of Fire! May you bless her with the wisdom to heed the word of the Light, the knowledge to understand that word, and the strength to follow it!
His last words echoed as Toga blinked her eyes open where she lay, feeling an odd, vibrating sensation around her body.
..........Lifting up, she turned her head to the Dragon Master, floating in the air, and who was shifting to some new form. The scales appeared on his skin, and he arched his back, wings splitting out from it, and growing. Two horns seemed to grow out of his skull, and his chin dipped into a dangerous curve, just as the dragon had had. As if watching a before and after picture meld, his form grew, new, even stronger muscles flexing as testing themselves out. Even the Dragon Master marveled at his transformation with a respect, and humbleness. He touched his face with webbed fingers and long nails as his previously shaved beard and mustache grew, and he laughed. The sound was like wind chimes, with the comfort of a thousand fires held in them.
..........Toga could do nothing but stare. She felt her own body turn upright, and she wrenched her eyes from the new Guardian, gasping as looked at the ground. The body of the Dragon Master still remained on the ground! She watched it as it began to glow like she was..
..........Toga, Master of Fire, I grant you my heart, to be with you always. From the Heavens I will watch over you, and aid you in times of great need, and one day, perhaps you too will join the Guardians.
..........She felt the revered being above her leave, staring at his old, human form. From it, a part of a heart, still beating, rose through him. Toga nodded, and, following her instincts, formed her ball again between her hands at chest level. The heart floated towards it, disappearing into the ball of light and fire. Toga brought her hands slowly towards her, and as the ball pushed into her chest, she seemed to feel everything, her senses going wild. She saw the most miniscule details on the walls, smelled the sulphur and the burning of the lava, tasted the heat and the ash in the air, heard every echoing beat of her heart resound in the cave, and felt every drop of heat in the cave room.
...and it was all gone in a blinding flash of light...
... Togas' Elder Quest is done. ...
