3nodding So, do you want a donation item that was released long before you were here, and is now near-impossible to find, no matter how dedicated your quest? Are you against re-releasing donation items in the controversial "purple boxes", because you got your items by supporting Gaia financially?
heart Please consider this middle ground:
The Heart Of Gold envelope. Most importantly, it would benefit Gaia itself....without whom we wouldn't have all our pretty pixels to start. xd
exclaim So, what is it?
This would be a very special envelope, given to dedicated donators of Gaia after a total of twelve consecutive months of donation. Inside, you would find the random gift of one previous donation item. It could be a Halo. eek It could be a Hammi Hat. 4laugh The older the donation item, the smaller the chance you would receive it....but the chance is always still there.
stressed NO RE-RELEASES!
exclaim These items would be marked Second Editions plainly in the descriptions, but retain the look of the original. Why?
heart Because newer members, as Gaia continues to flourish, would love to quest for these items....but the odds are there would be no one willing or remaining to sell. Dedicated members are a benefit to Gaia, whether they joined now or back when it all began. Why shouldn't they deserve the chance to have a seller should they achieve the ability to buy....or obtain one through luck and incredible financial support?
heart The Exchange would enjoy an influx of new items to price and sell, with no effect on the "status" or price of the First Editions, much as it works in gaming cards or comic books. Even with all the mules among Gaia's million-plus members, there are still enough "real" members that the new items would not effect rarity....the main point is to KEEP a steady, small amount of these items available to buy for those dedicated enough....and as a reward for those dedicated to Gaia monetarily.
heart Also, especially consider the tremendous financial benefit this system could provide Gaia. They need that far more than we need to be "better" than others, don't they?
- 1000 members donate 2.50 a month: $2500.00 monthly.
- $2500 a month for a full year: $30,000 annually. eek
exclaim For those opposed, here is opinion from a fellow on this idea.
The reason that I'm, reluctantly, some what ok with this letter system is because (1.) it still keeps the donation items amongst the donators.. The way it was suppose to be. (2.) It takes an entire year to get one of the items, so there really isn't and "easy way out" opposed to questing. (3.) They said that there would not be enough of a chance of getting a Halo in a purple box, or any highly expensive donation item, to really rock the economy.. So most of the time you would just get a nice newer donation item, there wouldn't be a bunch more on the market then there already are, and prices wouldn't plummet.
So as an opposer of the re-release of any donation items.. This is the only re-release plan that wouldn't make me angry if put in place. I mean, I'm not going to go beg the admins for it to happen, because I'm still great with the idea of -no- donation items being re-released. If it is put in place the way we've described it here, though, I wouln't really be angry about it.
exclaim Above all....this idea would both support Gaia incredibly financially, and give users loyal enough to quest for the rares the opportunity to see their quests completed. Let's show the generosity that made the donation items to begin with! whee

I, for one, would be pretty ticked if they ever re-released a halo. The halo is like the pinnacle of Gaian society, and the only mark of being a true veteran of the site. It's all I have left that screams "I am better than you" at the rest of the community.
