Reopened. Remembered my log in after...5years. Come on you rp animals out there. Kahns bored
greetings or darkest wishes i am kahn and this is a fighting arena as this starts off it will be a t.b. (turnbased) fighting arena all members are to learn t.b. this is just an idea so bear with me till i get it perfected
the setting in an old field with a huge ring in the center with stone pillars around it ontop of that is a clear roof with a ring os seats for people who come to bet on the fighters (hopes to move this to the commerce area later) on a sign engraved in stone at the front door it reads
greetings great warriors and cowards alike befor entering this door you must pass the rite of passage. at the bottom of the sign is a glowing hand print that very erily fits exactly to you hand as you touch it ......... you appear in a room with 6 elders surrounding you as you look to the first man in the hooded robes his eyes glow and says" it is only a game" and hands you a scroll. as you open the scroll it reads.....
The Role Players Creed
1.) I will maintain the illusion of the game by staying in character whenever possible. I will withhold out of character comments until absolutely necessary and even then I will pm or instant message them to the other players.
2.) If I discuss the game with other players out of character, I will not allow my character to be influenced by this knowledge without express permission of the other players. I will take the time to allow my character to learn these things on his or her own during the course of the game.
3.) I will separate myself as a player from my character as much as possible. While I understand that a lot of myself goes into my character and because the game is so very intense often real emotions will be drawn from me as a player, I also understand that my character is not me.
4.) If I am not in the mood to play, I won't interrupt other people's games by coming into it out of character. I will find others who are not in character and go somewhere meant for out of character discussion.
5.) I will not use my character as a vehicle for racism or bigotry. I will not use my character to promote child pornography or bestiality. I, as a player, understand that there is no room in the real world for such things and will, to the best of my ability, not let it seep into the virtual world as well.
6.) If I, as a player, feel that my character has been treated unfairly or that another character has overstepped the bounds of their abilities, I will approach the other character's player privately and discuss the situation in a calm adult manner and try to come to a resolution or compromise.
7.) I will accept the hand that is dealt me in the game, understanding that it is a game and it's not about winning or losing, but about playing.
8.) I will not allow setbacks in the game to be blown out of proportion. If I am overly emotional about what is happening, I will step back and not play until I can compose myself.
9.) I will not carry grudges against fellow players. My character might not like another character, but again, I am an adult and understand that they are 'characters' and not the player that portrays them.
10.) If I find that I simply can not get along with another player, I will avoid playing with them. But I will do so in a way that does not draw attention to this and I will not badmouth or otherwise slander the other player as such actions only makes myself look bad.
11.) If my character is killed, I will obviously grieve for the loss, but I will also view the situation as an opportunity for me to grow as a player. By starting anew with a fresh identity, I will be able to leave all the negatives of that character behind - any grudges, dislikes or just plain bad habits- and take away the good, thus making my next character even better and more interesting.
12.) I, as a player, will keep an open mind and allow people to play their characters the way their imagination leads them regardless if their interpretation matches that of some book, guideline...or creed.
as you turn to the second elder he simply says " fight with honor" and hands you a scroll. as you open the scroll it reads
Turn Based Fighting at a glance........
to start a turn based fight you must first the perameters of the fight such as: can magic be used? are we using wepons if so what wepons can be used? how many actions per round (example 3 actions in any combination of attacks or defences) are we going to allow interfearence? are we going to allow free actions? what about auto hits and auto damage and auto grabs?
Getting Started In Turn Base Combat
Obviously as the name of such suggests, you take it in turns to describe your actions & moves. It is expected for each post to be at least one or two paragraphs, bearing in mind that some masters go into such detail that they produce twenty or even more. Though such fighters tend to be very experienced. So if you’re just getting started aim for one or two paragraphs as I have stated. When you reveal the first part/paragraph of your attack to the chat room, which you plan to continue... It is common practice to allow people to realize that more is coming.... This is done with a >>> at the end of your paragraph or a [C] Which represent the fact that the actions and moves you are describing are going to be continued. When you finally finish end it with a [D] which stands for ‘done’.
Attention to detail is very important. And with regards to how your different body parts are moving while you fight, you have to detail such in an accurate manner as possible, pushing your writing skills to new levels of description.
Oh and another thing... No one cares about the twinkle in your eye, the soft smile or how pretty your hair looks. All they care about is your fighting stance. How far apart your legs are spread, if your knees are bent... How you’re holding your weapon... If its in your right or you’re left hand... From which angle you swing your blade at your foe...What part of your enemy's body you're trying to hit. How much force you're driving behind your strike... What your intention is with such a move... Stuff like that. As graphic detail as possible is required, and no one wants to know about your deepest thoughts and emotions. All they care about is the movement of your limbs. The distance between you and your foe. How large your weapon is. That kind of thing.
Also it is very important that you never say stuff like...
‘Drenai: Driving his sword deep into the flesh of his much slower fatter foe's gut, in doing so watching the lazy fool crash to his knees in a pool of his own blood. Captain Blubber having being taken by complete surprise by the remarkable and fantastic Drenai Deathstalker. Obviously demonstrating his god like ability upon the field of battle. Taking the time to flash a glinting toothed smile at the camera. [D]’
This is very bad because you’re telling your opponent what is happening to them, without them having any means of defending the position. You’re dictating and deciding consequence for the opposing fighter. This is not allowed. unless agreed by the other person
What you’re trying to do is describe the attack in as best detail as you can, making it as graphic as you can. But only to the point where you have described everything but actual contact with the one you are trying to hit.
Because after you have done such, it is the other fighter’s turn to describe his response to the pending situation you have put him in. He decides if the strike hits… Or to be more precise… He does his best to come up with a realistic means of avoiding the plight you have placed him in.
Also in this case its very stupid lol. Don't be a ego king, because if you imply that you're Mr. Invincible, you'll be labeled a cheater and moding.
In my humble opinion TB is like a dance, and you enjoy it so much more if you give and take and try to make each other look good. Let his strikes hit you and depending upon circumstance expect the foe to allow your attacks to hit with intending consequence.
So something like this is obviously more acceptable...
'Drenai: Though a distance of just under six feet remained between each men, the goliath of gothic armoured magnificence snarled before unleashing Soul Bleeder from its resting place upon his sheathed back. Swinging his huge battle axe off broad shoulders. [C]
Of which spawning from his right, sending it crashing down with alarming speed. Such singing through the air as the arched blade flew towards the man of considerable smaller heights face. [C]
Towering over this individual as his seven foot frame would permit gave Drenai a height advantage that he exploited with grave consequence, delivering the strike with a explosive eruption of strength and fury, his muscular arm extending at the elbow and stretching his forearm, while his large palm slided along the golden shaft of the extensive hilt. [C]
Almost an open palm thrusting the monolithic tool of dread forward, using the weapons six foot long reach with effective style, due to the fact he remained so far away from his opponent. Large fingers closing down on the pole of which the butterfly shaped glinting blade was attached to. And doing such only moments before possible connection to enhance the effectiveness of the strikes impact as one might a fist. [C]
All the while closing the distance between them with a stride that was initiated by his right almost tree trunk like armoured plated leg, the front of his foot propelling his heal off the ground accordingly, his left leg dragging behind and riding the wave that had been powered by the one in front.[C]
A very abrupt assault with the rage of a volcano erupting from the brute, all of which enhanced by a great battle roar, his epic bloody crimson cape blowing wildly through the air as he hurled himself forward... [D]
You don't need to make these many posts, but on the same token, your perfectly within your right to do twice as much... I am by no means claiming this is a perfect attack, because I am by no means great at TB, however I do appreciate the principles and rules and do my best, which is all anyone can expect of someone.
In fact I find the whole prospect of me attempting to teach anyone TB stupid because I am still learning myself. However what I have already learned I want to pass on to all of you, so we can all improve together...
These words are only intended to make all the other pages that are devoted to TB make a little more sense.... Though I'll constantly add new bits of information as time passes...
thr ring of fire very much wants a collection of TB warriors... Its your duty as a fighter to learn.
For those of you who do not know how to fight Turn Based (TB for short), this is a guide to the basics of TB, and should help you through your learning of TB. TB has made a return and is growing to be a popular style among various groups. Turn Based Combat is-as you may have gathered from the name-based around a system of turns, each turn consisting of an attack, a defense and a movement (all of which are optional). TB is a flexible style, in the form of the 'customizable features', the combatants may choose which additional rules they wish to use. I shall now begin....
The Basics: For this section, I shall write up a few posts of a fight, annotating them so you can see which bit is which.
[fighter1] Seeing that his opponent is not yet ready, he swiftly draws his sword and runs to him. Lifting the blade up into the air, he swings it down with deadly speed upon the head of his enemy who is standing before him, aiming to cut deep into the shoulder.
Right, as you can see, there is Attack and Misc within that post, no defense is required because Fighter1 has not yet been attacked. Also note that the effects of the attack are noted, this is necessary to put for every post:
[fighter2] He observes F1 making his way toward him and jumps from his seat accordingly, just as the sword of his enemy is making it's way toward him, he unsheathes his own short sword, raising it up swiftly and bringing it up to meet the blade of his enemy, stopping the blade before it reaches him. Then, he lifts up his knee swiftly, sending it on it's path toward the gut of his opponent, aiming to double him up so that he can strike down with his sword...
Now, we have our first example of a successful defense. The defense is perfectly plausible, and confirmed by the fact that F2 stated the attack did not connect I cannot stress enough the importance of this action. You must state that the attack did not hit if you successfully defended.
[fighter1] Seeing his attack fail took his attention from the oncoming knee of his opponent, the knee which soon plunged up into his gut...He let out a loud cry before doubling up and taking a few, pained steps back from his opponent..
This is an example of the defender taking a hit by themselves, if the defender had neglected the attack and ignored it (perhaps just attacking again) then F2 would have been able to negate the attack of F1 and also, control the damage of the hit.
This is a quick example which can be easily adapted to fit other situations, now I shall explain some more rules.
Autos: As you probably have gathered, Auto is short for automatic. An Auto is when a hit (or other contact is forced..we'll come to that) is forced upon a combatant without the possibility of defense.
Example
[fighter1] He charges toward his opponent, his sword drawn and raised high as he swings it down in a fearsome arc toward the shoulder of his target. The sword cuts deep into the shoulder, carving through flesh and bone alike..
Moves like this, will not be tolerated anywhere...Now, for the forced contact bit which is optional. As I said, an auto is a forced hit, but it can be a forced contact also although, this rule is optional (Forced contact-i.e Grabbing the wrist, but not attacking..)
