My previous account erin1216 got banned for botting last month. WTF! I have been so dedicated into it.. it's so unfair. scream
Why? Because I vended alot; vend whoring. This requires lots of page views and from the looks of it it triggered the bot detector to see me as a botter.
It was my winterbreak (Taiwan), so I seized the opportunity to finish my quest for an OMG hat. On February 22th my account got blocked, just two weeks after I got my OMG. Gaia just made my hard efforts disappear, just like that... =.=
Of course I contacted omnimods, filled in the feedback form and e-mailed inquiry@gaiaonline.com (all very long). Just today, I received a reply from them:
-e-mail-Your account was banned for botting, which is a violation of the Gaia Termsof Service. "Botting" is defined as using an automated script, macro, program, or othermeans to surf or post on Gaia in order to earn gold illegally. The use ofany software that automatically earns gold for you is forbidden, andaccounts found to be using such software will be banned. In accordance with our standard moderation practices, your account mustremain banned. Thanks for writing.
Durr, I know what botting is! I've been trying to tell you that your system is wrong! I did NOT gain gold illegally! It's all HARD WORK. I seriously wonder if they really investigated my case, or just checked the reason I got banned for and copy-pasted this standard message...
I know for a fact that more people got banned for vend whoring! They too got trouble getting their account back. Some succeeded, others failed and others knew it wouldn't help. I for one believed that Gaia would investigate seriously and not blindly trust their obviously flawed system. Gaia really disappointed me. I shall keep on fighting!
Edit: I got a mail:
Sorry, an unban will not be possible. In accordance with our standard moderation practices, your account must remain banned. You can, however, create a new account, if you like. -- Muscular BabyGaia Online Member Services
-.- That sounds like once my activity (I spent too much time vending and exchanging too hard)on gaia were different from majority, they won't unban me even if I am innocent...Cause they want to in accordance with their standard moderation practices confused But..why some users(vendors or fishers)did get their account back? Also,if that is a reason they don't unban me why we need an inquiry system?Just to make us feel they care users? That's called ''gaiaonline values its users highly''??? gonk
I can wait..I can wait for them to check my case when they get time...I don't want their random, fast, useless answer to my email...Due to my poor English every mail I wrote to them take at least one hour to finish x.x That's not nice cry
Give my account back scream

Blu Aardvark VIII
Wow, this thread has been active for a long time
I have a similar tale. I was banned on my first account (Blu-Aardvark, may he rest in piece love and peace (lawl)) for "password phishing". Thing is, the post they banned me for didn't even have a goddamn link in it. I sent several messages to the inquiry address, and they responded with form letters for a while, and then just stopped responding.
Apparently, the system works like this: If you're banned, you must have broken the rules. If you didn't break the rules, you wouldn't be banned, so tough s**t. Mistakes? Nope, staff couldn't possibly make those. They claim to investigate your case. However, you need to provide (hard) evidence in order for them to do so. I get the idea they don't investigate thoroughly. They see some "facts" the bot-detector had pooped out, feel it looks alright, and.. that's about it... oh yea, reply you: "Masheen sais yu bot. Yu stai banban".
Another major point is, if you're friends with mods.. you'll have much higher chances of having your case properly looked at and still have your account unlocked. (I've seen quite a few of such cases.)
Question here is: Was the ban questionable in the first place? All questionable cases will get a negative outcome; out of caution. Having mods claim (with/without proof) it to be a mistake will make Gaia turn the negative outcome into positive with probably the same reason: Case was questionable.
Whether this is true, is up to you. This is my view.
Basically, Gaia is populated near entirely by morons, and those morons have made their way into the administrative positions. Not much that can be done about that. Gaia doesn't particularly care about their customers, they care about their ability to market s**t. This is why every page is loaded with advertisements, why there are so goddamn many promotional items, and why Gaia is so desperate for people to buy Gaia cash. More or less agreeing with this. Their focus have indeed very much changed. Much of the proof is to be found right in front of us, on nearly every page Gaia shows us. However, Gaia has grown incredibly since I joined. This growth means greater costs; hiring and paying more personnel, artists and experts, buying, expanding and maintenance of servers, advertisements, exhibitions, transport, Lanzer's Gundam collection, and much more. Of course they earn too. Question: How high are the costs compared to the profits? Is it pure greed?
Which is, incidentally, why I block advertisements and refuse to donate. I understand why you refuse to. Again, how high are the costs and how high the profits. Surely it's more than the costs otherwise Gaia would have gone byebye some time ago; but how much above the costs? Has the economic crisis hit them too? If many were to stop donating, Gaia would have to come up with even more ideas to earn a buck or two.
I do believe Gaia earns a lot, but is it sufficient for the work they deliver and under what pressure? How are they managing, financially speaking?
