Edit. Because some illiterate ******** can't seem to grasp the idea of reading the ENTIRE first post, I'll put this here in nice, bright red, hard to miss letters. THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO BE A REAL FAN. THE POINT IS THAT PEOPLE WHO WATCH ADULT SWIM ARE NO LESS FANS THAN ANYONE ELSE.
I now return you to your originally scheduled rant.
Yes, that's right. Not just "n00bs." They are the fans who like what they see. True, they may not be buying DVDs or wall scrolls, or sitting on Gaia, screaming about how other fans aren't "real" fans, but they are still fans. Watching Adult Swim generates ratings. Good ratings for an anime series on TV is like a signal. It says to other networks "Yes! You CAN get viewers by putting this on!" It's a domino effect. When everything starts to fall into place, it can be a wonderous thing. Want to see more anime on TV? Watch Adult Swim. Want to see more variety of anime on TV? Watch Adult Swim.
Real anime fans don't insult new fans just because they don't feel the new fans are "good enough to watch anime." It doesn't matter if someone has made fun of anime before. People have this amazing thing called a brain. It's capable of taking in new information, of learning, of even changing a person's opinion with that information. Some of the truest fans in the world have insulted something before they actually listened to or watched it.
Real anime fans don't treat anime as some dividing factor, some sort of religion, or something to hold over other peoples' heads. They don't live their lives for anime. They watch it, yes. They are entertained by it, absolutely, but that doesn't mean that they watch nothing else, do nothing else, are entertained by nothing else. Real anime fans know when to turn off the TV.
Real anime fans know that anime isn't JUST Japanese. That the word might be, but ALL countries are capable of producing quality animation. They respect the influence that Americans have had on Japanese anime, and they appreciate the fact that Japanese animation is now influencing American animation. And French animation.
Real anime fans watch Adult Swim, kids. And nothing you say will make it any different.
Also note that you don't HAVE to watch Adult Swim to be a real anime fan. Just that those who do are no less fans than anyone else.
Another minor note. Even though I reference Adult Swim specifically, I could just as easily have written this post about FoxBox, Toonami, YTV! (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is. The name slips my mind at the moment), or just about anything else that shows cartoons.
