Card Meaning: The union of opposites, discriminating between two choices.

History: Perfectly content to play the matchmaker, she had no desire to be in a match at all. As a demon, she had perhaps been the one who most often visited the normal world, living for many centuries in medieval times with bands of travellers or gypsies. As a result, she was very easy to get along with, and knew much about relationships in general.

She found balance incredibly important, probably the reason she was on the side she was. Demon's weren't exactly EVIL, after all. Yet because she was so concerned with balance on the outside of things, she failed to realize that she, herself, was unbalanced...half of a whole...incomplete.
Artwork
Space for some pretty pictures. Alas you shall have to put up with mine but I do have some fantastic stuff from Hibb though. I shall drool over them a bit first... mmmmm.....
Btw, if they don't show up, try refreshing a few times. My upload place thingy is acting up at the moment.

Ah, my first picture of D the demoness.... or succubus maybe, that's a type of demon right?
Anywho, she's looking rather sad. It was all rather shocking growing those wings but she's probably just upset because she's torn her shirt. wink blaugh

Face...
Just a front view of D's face that I doodled... not all that exciting.

And now onto Hibb's work.... *rubs hands with glee*

User Image

D, with her spiffy new wings and tail, looking very impressive.
Hibb helped me a heap with the anatomy design ideas. Thank you!

User Image

This has to be my favourite.... but then again, I love all Hibb's work so much! Looking at this just makes me smile stupidly and say "Awww....." It's soo touching!

D and Nar.... not really watching the sunset.
The colours on this are so amasing. Go look!

Wing and Tail Design Sketches
Durring our appendage brainstorming, Hibb was kind enough to do up these sketches.
The Other Cardholders:
Opinions to come as I meet them. They'll probably change over time as well.

The Fool

The Magician - Ah, it seems like RT has recieved this card. He still seems very much the same, knowledgable and polite, although he no longer needs his cane. Ah and he has a rather soft spot for the High Priestess.

The High Priestess - Also known as Rein. A peaceful woman andsister to Strength. She's under alot of strain at the moment, having been given the Wheel's apparent job at the castle.

The Empress

The Emperor

The Hierophant

The Chariot - A young and handsome fellow but his personality doesn't seem to match. Rumor has it that he killed a servant while dispersing his own idea of justice. He's also something of a womanizer, no wonder he's so nice to Strength.

Strength - An expert in all things concerning nature, she is also sort of shapeshifter since I first met her in the form of a bear. Unfortunatly her and I have had a falling-out. I can't believe she accused me of something like that!

The Hermit

Wheel of Fortune - This is the one who gave me my card and sent me hurtling into this strange new world. I know I can't hold him responsible and he seemed rather distressed after my reaction, but I don't know what to think.... He has since vanished from the castle and left the Priestess in charge of his duties.

Justice - A lovely young woman, even with such a strange disability. She wears a blindfold yet she can still see. It's when the material is removed that she's blind. Quite hard to get your head around but her personality is great. I have had many conversations with her and I find her a pleasure to hang out with and talk to.

The Hanged Man

Death - Only seen from afar. Strength speaks well of her though.

Temperance

The Devil

The Tower - Naraka, vampire, lover. Maybe it's not so strange to be involved with him since we now discover the true nature of my form here. A demon and a vampire. Yet despite this new and disturbing knowledge he has promised to stay with me. Through thick and thin.

The Star - A very beautiful and talented young woman. She also has bat-like wings though they appear too small and fragile to fly with, not to mention she says they have a mind of their own. How odd. She is kind and answers my questions as best she can. I would like to talk to her more.

The Moon

The Sun - Ah, Sly the resident pirate. Although he dresses and talks like one, he really doesn't strike me to be the terrible 'rouge of the sea' I imagine pirates to be. His tone and words are happy and complimenting. Has a rather amusing power as well.

Judgement - Another winged cardholder I encounted before and after my change. Always the gentleman, he's polite and well manered. He also gave me flying lessons and so I owe the wonderful feeling of flight to him. It also seems to be his duty to awaken the powers within each cardholder. I wonder how he does it.

The World - It is hard to write what I think about the World since she is currently very unstable. Screaming at me one day and sharing tea with me the next. I'm told she is ill in her mind and heart. It is a sad thing to witness.
Ok, so there was abit of confusion as to who exactly was getting a card. What I had always wanted was for 'Dee' to get one. When I entered the contest for the Priestess (which went to the right person! Well done Pseudo! You are great!) I also made up an intro so I could play in the thread as a non-cardholder. Since Dee would never have an excuse to suddenly turn up at the castle, I made up a different character, a servant. Her name was Bryony and in the end, I didn't rp much as her anyway. So just out of curiousity's sake, here is her intro:

Quote:
The notice arrived about three days ago. It was in quite a plain envelope but the letter itself was much more decorated. With long loopy handwriting and surrounded by an intricate border it looked much more official, even regal perhaps.

"It requests that one of our daughters should be employed as a maid at some rich chap's castle." Father explained to us after he had read it. "It's got all the details here, the address, pay rate and work details...."

All eyes turned to me, the only daughter and youngest child of the family.

"Castle?" I replied mystified.

After little discussion it was agreed that I should be sent to work there. The pay was very reasonable for such a low position and since food and accommodation was supplied; it could all be sent back home. A nice little source of income for the family. Not to mention I had all the skills that such a position required. Living in a family with four older brothers, I was used to cleaning, darning and cooking simple meals. I was upset to be leaving the dairy farm but I knew the family could really do with the money so I made no argument at being sent away.

The trip to the castle was two days long, taking the local coach partway there and walking the rest. So I packed myself enough sandwiches and fruit to last the journey, enough money to pay the coach driver and a few personal belongings I couldnt bare to leave behind. The letter asked that I wear clean but plain clothes. Nothing fancy that would draw attention to myself; as a servant I was expected to blend into the background. So I dressed into a clean white blouse, a long pale blue-grey skirt and a headscarf of the same colour. Being sure to also wear sturdy and sensible boots to withstand the amount of walking that had to be done.

The journey went without incident. Well except for the fact that I had not estimated the condition of the ground when I had started. So upon arriving at the castle that evening my skirt was several inches deep in mud and dirt. Slipping through the massive gates I moved around to the right, across a field, searching for the servants entrance. Finding a small door in the wall there I knocked anxiously on it.

It was answered almost immediately by a large woman, dressed in such a manner that it left no doubt she was one of the senior maids. Yes? She asked and made no other comment.

"I'm Bryony. Ive come about the position?" I held out the letter as way of explanation. She took it from my hand and looked at it a moment.

"Oh yes. We were expecting you." She looked me up and down, pursing her lips in disapproval as she studied my dirty skirt. "You will need to wash that before you begin and your hair must be tied back into a neat braid. Your clothing is quite appropriate and your appearance is pleasing but not extraordinary."

She let me enter and then took off down one of the smaller servant hallways. I had to run occasionally to keep up with her quick pace.

"Now I don't know how much experience you have had but this position does not require exceptional skills. There is a list of tasks in your room as well as a schedule for the servant's meals. As long as all the jobs are completed efficiently and successfully you may enjoy your personal time in a quiet and sensible fashion. These times have been outlined on your schedule."

She looked back over her shoulder before continuing. "Now it is most important to know how you must behave. You are to treat all the castle's occupants with the utmost respect. Do not speak to them unless spoken to first and keep your replies short and to the point. Always acknowledge them with a curtsy and call them 'sir' or 'madam' appropriately. Do not ask them questions unless you are asking if they require your services but you should really be doing them without having to be asked. Do any tasks that they ask of you straight away although they are not likely to ask you since they all have their own personal servants."

As I moved to walk beside her she quickly added, "Always walk close to the wall when moving about the castle so as not to get in their way should they pass you." So I dropped back to follow behind.

Just then we stopped outside a plain door. Looking round I noticed there were a dozen or so other doors exactly the same, situated on each side of the hallway. I assumed it must be the servant living quarters and was proved right when the woman opened the door in front of us, revealing a small plain room with a bed, cupboard and not much else.

"This is your room. Report to Lydia in the room opposite yours tomorrow morning and she will show you around the castle." She nodded at my skirt, "and where to wash that." With that she headed off leaving me alone.

Setting my bag down on the floor I flopped onto the bed, glancing over to the long list of chores and the even longer list of rules that hung on the wall.
"Well, tomorrow shall be interesting to say the least."

Anyway, she won't go to complete waste. Dee does need one servant and so she'll be assigned to her. wink

Another Life?

Who am I? Only a month ago I could have told you; I’m Andeena, ‘Dee’, a 20-year-old girl, living in an old inn, with my little business, happy. Now I’m not sure I know anymore.

Since I’ve met Naraka, become involved with him.... things have become a bit more complicated in regards to my identity. I mean, how would you take it? Being told you were the reincarnated soul of his past love? And just when I’ve let that sink in it seems I’m something else altogether....

This new incident came about one visit to the castle. Nar had been called back to a past life at this castle, you see. A rather complicated issue involving tarot cards, portals and forgotten pasts. He had told me about it and even taken me there with him to look around, for it is an incredible place despite it’s mystery. It was on the last trip that I received a card of my own. The Wheel of Fortune gave it to me, after he had guided us to his tower. I’m grateful he chose such a secluded spot because what happened next was not exactly pleasant.

Like Nar’s own card, this one portrayed my own image although it was somewhat different to my current form. It had wings and a tail for a start! A strange mix of leathery skin and soft feathers. I couldn’t turn my gaze from it as it grew brighter until I was blinded by white. And that’s when I felt it, those new appendages growing out of me. The pain was intense yet it left almost as quickly as it came. But that wasn’t the worst bit. The worst part was when I finally looked up and saw the look on my love’s face. Disgust.... Disappointment.... Anger..... I tried to speak to him but he turned his attention to the Wheel, speaking of me as though I was nothing to him. He didn’t even use my name..... And when he did finally talk to me it was cold and harsh. He told me to go home, to just leave.

And I did. What else could I do? It was as though he didn’t care for me any longer. Like I wasn’t myself anymore. I’m sure he wants no more to do with me. Even though the horrid new limbs disappeared when I returned to my home, I think the damage has already been done.....
Paradise and Mistaken Identity

The other day I returned to the castle, despite the misery it caused, in an attempt to mend all the problems it had caused me. I thought perhaps I could give the card back to the Wheel and everything would return to normal. Highly unlikely I know but I had to try something. However my plan was not put into action due to the fact I couldn’t remember which tower was the Wheel’s. I ended up disturbing someone else as I mistook their tower for his. To make matters worse, they informed me that the Wheel was terribly difficult to find, even if you knew where to look.

Disheartened, I wandered outside. I have to say I got rather frustrated with the whole situation and pulled out a few feathers, not many though since it hurt. And that’s when I stumbled across the door. Yes a door, in a tree no less! Not caring much where it led, I stepped through. Now somewhere along the line, Naraka must have spotted me because he followed me in shortly after. He said he had done so to save me from whatever was inside. He believes these doors are dangerous yet this door was quite the opposite.

Inside PelaPela, an enormous brightly coloured bird, greeted us. She said that this was paradise and indeed it was very beautiful. It appeared to be a vast orchid, rich with lush grass and trees and thick with the pleasant scent of flowers and fruit. She showed us a huge tree, far bigger than I thought possible, which was laden with various fruit; apples, pears, cherries, bananas, all on the one tree! Even stranger was the fact their taste did not match their appearance. It took me a little while to find the one PelaPela requested. That done, we decided to go and so after promising to visit her, Pela escorted us out. She also gave us two strange presents; a hairpin and a star-like pendant on a thin silver chain. The pin is very delicate, made from glass and some sort of silvery metal, and shaped like a waterlilly. The star pendant is very fine too, with many tips pointing out from its centre. I think it must be made from seashell. Beyond that I haven’t studied them any further.

Ah but now comes a more interesting and revealing discovery. After we had left ‘paradise’, Nar came and explained some things to me about his actions the other day. I was wrong when I thought my new appearance repulsed him, in fact he is intently curious about them and how they fit. What concerned him was the fact that since we have discovered I am a cardholder, he has realised that that’s where his feelings of familiarity came from. He knew me before, when the castle first stood.... not from India. I am not the reincarnation of Anala, I am not his past love returned. While this is rather bad news, the fact I am glad for the moment is that he has decided not to turn me away or stop loving me, despite not being who he thought I was.

There are some other bad aspects of this however. Of course I feel terribly upset that he still has to wait for her but at least I can wait with him, keep him safe from loneliness, until she does return. For you see, it seems the cardholders are immortal. Nar tells me that though sickness and injury my kill us, we will not be affected by the effects of time, at least until the castle looses it’s hold on us or falls, if that even happens. So I shall remain with him for far longer than I had thought. Of course I shall have to stand aside once Anala finds him again, and that will be terribly hard. Not to mention I will get to discover first-hand what it is like to see the people and places I love change and die. But those are deeply depressing thoughts and will not happen for some time yet, best to focus on the better details - that the love between us had not been destroyed.

(( A full version of Nar and D’s rp after they left the door and ‘made up’ is available in Nar’s journal HERE (page 1). I’m afraid it is reasonably long and does contain a bit of fluff, but it does give a very good description of D’s new appendages and they also find a rather cool new room. ))
New Faces
Since the door, I have visited the castle on a number of occasions. Though I haven’t seen any more of these strange doors, I have come across a few of the other card holders.

The first was Sly, or the Sun rather. Dressed in pirate garb and with a fairly rough accent, he is in fact rather polite and well mannered. He had been whistling in the courtyard when I came across him but he didn’t seem at all annoyed by my interruption. Being a pirate, he does have his own ship, which he tells me is moored in a nearby river. I’m keen to see it, apparently it’s a galleon of some sort, although at the time it was too dark to appreciate it properly. I will have to find him again another time and go visit it.

The next was Meep, who holds the Justice card. I made the mistake of thinking she was blind at first. You see she wears a blindfold but it works in quite the opposite fashion. It is only when she doesn’t wear it that she is blind, when it is on she can see perfectly, well so she tells me. Definitely a nice young woman, I hope to run across her more often. Naraka interrupted our little chat, acting rather drunk although he claimed it was from lack of sleep. Meep was kind enough to help me get him into a bed and out of the sun.

A couple of days later I met Judgement. I do not know his real name, like the Wheel he seems to prefer his title. It was an interesting encounter that gave me some helpful information. You see, he has wings as well, large white feathery things quite like a swan’s or an angel’s even. I had met him ever so briefly before I became the Lovers, yet he is still just as friendly and gentleman-like. There was an odd moment though when he considered me against my card, I’m not sure what he was thinking, but it seemed to pass. He has told me to go see Strength in regards to wing and feather care. Apparently she knows the most about nature and animals and was able to help him with his own appendages. Even better is the fact he has offered to help instruct me on learning to use my wings properly, to fly! I can’t wait to learn. The idea of soaring in the sky does make me feel these cumbersome things might be worth it.
