"Looks like rain..." she muttered as she exited the forest and clambered down the moist, muddy slope. Kami heaved a sigh, green eyes cast to the greyish skies as she observed the dismal weather. It certainly suited the way she felt. "Come on, Sparty..." she called, looking back as the pudgy beagle made his way down to follow her.
Bored with the monotonies of the indoors, Kami had decided to venture out to one of her favourite places, a secluded spot on the pebbled shore of a lake. She'd brought Sparticus, her beagle, for company.
Getting past the slope, the girl trudged onto the rocks, listening as they shifted and clicked beneath her feet, silently wishing the sun would emerge as she looked out over the water. It didn't appear as if that would happen anytime soon. A soft fog had settled over the middle of the lake, but around the edge it was clear enough. Spart snuffled about the shore boredly, moving over to a reedy area. Kami bent down to scoop up a handful of rocks, and follwed him.
"Watch this, Spart..." she said with a grin, not minding when he didn't seem to hear her. She took one of the small stones in her hand, pulled her arm back, and sent the thing flying, watching with satisaction as it skipped several times across the surface before sinking into the dark lake water. "Still got my moves---Hey!" she gave a startled jump as the dog began to bark frantically at the water, his bushy tail wagging in excitement as he watched.
Kami frowned, and squatted down, placing a hand on hs back. "Don't freak out, Spart." she said, quickly seeing what he was so obviously interested in. "They're only catfish." she reassured him, watching the large fish swim lazily through the muddy silt. They always seemed to come out on cloudy days, and were sometimes fun to watch.
Sparticus continued to bark unsettingly, making his owner frown. "You've seen these before--AAH!" she was taken by surprise as he shot forward, pulling her in as well. "SPARTY! What's gotten into you!?" she cried, scrambling to stand as she brushed the hair out of her eyes. It was then that she saw them gleam in the silt. The dog which she had cursed a second ago was digging in the water, muddy and wet from the dive.
"What....what is this thing?" Kami kneeled, oblivious to the cold of the water as she gently moved Sparticus, and stuck her hands down in the mud. It was round, cool....and unusally large. With a small amount of effort, she managed to pull the object free, extracting an obscene noise from the mud that had held it. It's weight amazed her as she found she could lift it up easily, despite it's size, which was roughly tht of a soccerball. "It's...an egg!" she cried, washing the lake mud from it in the water. "This is unbelievable.." she murmured to herself softly, running possibilities through her head. Surely this thing couldn't be real...perhaps it was just some toy that had been lost by some kid long ago. No...it's markings looked far too strang to be a simple toy. She looked about shiftily, and tucked it under her arm. No way she would leave this behind.
Kami stood up, shivering softly, her clothes soaked, too preoccupied by her find to care. With a smile, she stepped onto the bank and began to make her way back to the slope. "Come on, Spart!!" she called. With her find tucked under her arm, she marched home quickly, completely unaware of what was awaiting her inside that egg....
