There aren't many things in the world of Gaia that will be surprising to a person that is used to dealing with magic. It was because of that that Emilie even dared to enter the realms of the forest in the middle of the night. Emilie was an earth-mage, and it was at night that her powers were the strongest.
She had spent a couple of hours sitting at the bondfire, meditating and weaving her spells, and was very exhausted by the time she finally started her way back. She didn't know whether it was exhaustion, or just the change of light, but after about an hour of walking without reaching the end of the forest she had to admit that she was lost.
"Wonderful," she muttered under her breath. "Of all times and places to get lost it had to be in the middle of the night in a bloody forest."
While Emilie was a nature-mage, she did enjoy the comforts of modern living. (i.e. a comfortable bed and central heating) So she drudged on, figuring she would reach her destination eventually. It was only a few hours and a couple of bruises and scratches later, that she finally saw the light of the edge of the forest. Or so she hoped.
She shouldered her bag and rushed for the light, elated to be finally on the right track. It turned out, however, the forrest didn't end, but let up into a wide clearing. Emilie sighed and dropped her bag. "This is useless, if I go any further I'll never make it out of this forest."
She sat down and searched her pack for the last sandwich she had packed before heading out. "It's not like I never slept open air before"
Chewing slowly to get more from the meager meal she took a look around. The clearing seemed peaceful, framed by old willows, their brances soflty swaying in the light breeze. It was then that she noticed a twinkle, similar to Moonlight reflecting on water or on glass. Driven by endless curiousity Emilie got up to take a better look.
She had never anticipated what she would find.
The reflection of light was caused by a golden symbol, imbedded in a stone. It was covered in the dirst and grass. Fascinated Emilie started digging, slowly revealing an oddly shaped rock.
"Hmm I wonder what this is..." Emilie mumbled as she turned the stone over in her hands.
It was definitly not natural. Nothing in nature ever asumed a detailed shape like this, no stone at least. It was the shape of an egg, it's color an odd shade of blue... almost gray. For it's size Emilie would have expected it to be a bit heavier... But the odd part were the wings that were carved at the side, extending as if ready to fly. Definitly hand made.
"Well.... no use looking into it now... I don't have the energy to think straight."
Heading back to her little 'camp' she settled the stone in her knapsack carefully and then settled down to get a little rest, as uncomfortable as it would be.

The next morning she managed to find her way home easily, now that she could see where she was going. The first thing she did was take a long nap before tackeling any other chores for the day.
After all her housework was done she settled down at the kitchen table, the stone in her hand. "Now... what the heck are you?" she asked herself, staring at the weird stone.
