....I believe this new tax to stop the inflation will increase it rather than decrease it.....this is why:

....Many more people will just increase their prices to compensate for the price increase, which, although will decrease some from raising the prices, will make other sellers do the same thing in order to make any sort of profit....anyone who is actually not increasing their prices will instead sell mainly in the forums through trade, in which they will be making the same amount as they are now (with the current inflation) because there will be no tax on trade....and these people will be able to make these overpriced deals since it will be significantly cheaper than those of the marketplace with the new tax....

rather than tax the seller, I believe you should tax the buyers instead, this way its like a real tax.......this will make people want to lower prices in the market place so the buying tax isn't so bad so they will be able buy cheaper and sell cheaper, but still make a profit.....(especially on super-expensive items like coco).....

...and since the tax wouldn't affect the seller directly, they won't want to put higher prices, since their stuff won't sell as easily, especially with the tax on buyers forcing them to buy cheaper stuff......and the sellers wouldn't be able to make price increases based off of how much they are taxed, since they would be taxed on what they buy, rather than what they sell......

...this will also affect the trade forums, since everything in the marketplace would be forced to be cheaper, those using trade will have to make cheaper deals in order to charm those who go to the marketplace often.....

.....could you tell me what you think of this idea?......as well as ask other members of the Gaia Online crew.....?

...thank you...
if they increase the price, more tax will be taken, so that would be stupid.

you'll still gain more... 2% of 10k is 200g, 2% of 15k is 300g, 10k-200g = 9.8k, 15k-300g = 14.7k

You know, that's not a bad idea at all. I'm too tired right now try and dive any deeper into the subject (and a bit tired of the subject itself), but on the surface it seems to be a much better alternative than the proposed taxing of the seller. :3
Yes they'll raise prices, but maybe less people will buy it because of raised price. You have to cater to the buyer really.

Why is Gaia fixing something thats not broken?
I hope everything inflates.
Yeah... I hate buying things for ridiculous prices. But maybe gaia will learn from there mistakes.

More tax is taken, but you still get your original asking price in the end.

Well, the thing is that that cannot be stopped. Especially with how many users there are on Gaia and how many who are still coming along. There will always be a good sum of people who will desire an item and they will save up to get it. Even if it seem outrageous. Especially older items even thought they aren't particularly pretty. Supply and demand.
From the start there will be inflation of course, but with the 2% taken out, the more gold taken from the economy will eventually lower the prices because people wont be able to afford the items they want at the prices the sellers want.
Yes that would cause a big deflation but it's not going to stop anyone from complaining. Many people who use the exchange buy and sell. So they would all be complaining because now they can't buy low so they would have to increase their sell price to make up for an expensive buy.

I really don't think switching the tax to the seller would solve anything. People would have to drop their price to make the buyer want it so they would still be loosing some money in theory. I mean if the buyer can get it from the exchange tax free wouldn't they go there? So we would just encounter the same problem except now it's the buy who is being reluctant.

I think the only thing would change is we would have different people complaining. Perhaps even more because more people are buyers and not sellers.

Either way I don't care.. I would still be paying a tax. *shrugs*
