Najia's "shadow charm," which called her to me and she now wears. It's funny, but as soon as she put it on one of her gifts began to show...
Made of obsidian, jade, and jaguar bone, all set in blackened silver. It hangs on a leather cord tied with obsidian, jade, and bone beads.

The Story of the Shadow Charm
For as long as I can remember, my grandmother told me stories of the Shadow Charm. Made from the stones and bones of the gods and bound together with human metal, the human who wore the Shadow Charm was said to be called to the Zephirae, while the Zephirae who wore it could call out its powers. It was a gift, she said, given to one of my ancestors by the Zephirae that watched over him. When the angels were lost, he hid the charm and passed it down to his children, and they in turn to theirs. All those years passed, and somehow the charm was never lost. Every single wearer of the charm hoped against hope that they would be the one to call the Zephirae and care for one, but still it never happened. By the time the charm was passed to me by my grandmother, is was all just a nice family story about an exotic piece of jewelry. No one believed it anymore, least of all me. So of course it came true. Now I care for Najia, and she wears the charm. What powers shall she call?
User ImageJuly 23, 2oo4 ~ Najia comes home!

Even after all these years hearing the stories of my charm and how it marks me and my family as caretakers to be trusted with the Zephirae, I never really expected it to happen. Imagine my suprise when Kinari came by last night with an Angel in her arms, intended for me to raise! She is beautiful, a black jaguar anthro girl with stunning multicolored wings like those of the quetzal bird. It is interesting, although somewhat expected now that I think about it, that she and the charm are very similar in origin. The moment I sat down with Najia in my arms, I not only could "feel" her name, but found her rooting out the charm and clutching it tight. She has let me wear it for now, but I have a feeling she will soon demand to wear it herself. It does seem to call to her, which is nice since as long as I wear it she is easy for me to find.

She is clearly interested in the world and learning all about it, to the point that were it not for my dream Sora's interest in her I would spend most of my day wandering around outside trying to find her. As it is, Sora makes sure the little Angel doesn't leave the grounds, and with my Syn Sumayah prowling my property, there is nothing to harm her. It is strange though, since she will cringe from exploring new places and meeting new people occasionally. She generally forces herself to get over it, but her initial reaction to the world at large is so different from her one to home I worry that it is more than just a young childs caution. The blaze of white scar across her right shoulder hints at my worry being well-founded. I shall ask when she is older, and ready to speak of it. Until then I shall keep her safe, and help her to overcome her fears.

Gabo walked up to Perri's door, holding Kenji in his arms, who seemed to be quite excited. Upon getting there Gabo stoped to smooth out the young foxes' hair. "We have to make a good first impression, Kenji." The red-haired boy took out the note that was taped to his door, checking to see if he was at the right place before he decided to knock.

Kenji squealed, his ears twitched as his father played with his hair, to make sure it looked good. Taking a look around and blinked, he had no recignition of being in this place before.
RP: Najia meets Kenji ~ July 24th, 2oo4

Gabo
Gabo walked up to Perri's door, holding Kenji in his arms, who seemed to be quite excited. Upon getting there Gabo stoped to smooth out the young foxes' hair. "We have to make a good first impression, Kenji." The red-haired boy took out the note that was taped to his door, checking to see if he was at the right place before he decided to knock.

Kenji squealed, his ears twitched as his father played with his hair, to make sure it looked good. Taking a look around and blinked, he had no recignition of being in this place before.

Perri
A loud banging could be heard inside, followed by some muffled yells. The front door opened slowly and stopped when there was just enough room for a person to slide through. Perri could not be seen, but she was heard. "Hi Gabo! Please come in, I'm holding the fox kits back from getting out."

Gabo
Gabo nodded to Perri, even though she couldn't see it, and walked in. "Thanks for inviting me and Kenji." He said, grinning.

Kenji buried himself within his blanket, wanting to play.

Perri
Perri shut the door and moved her foot, letting to blurs of fur race across the floor to disappear into another room. "Sorry about the kits. Rene's out for the night and they don't listen to me." Perri smiled. "Shall we go to the living room? I left Najia in there with Sora and Sumayah." The girl turned and led the way.

Gabo
Gabo followed her, looking around her house. "That's ok, I like foxes. If you want I'll play with them and entertain them some."

Perri
Perri chuckled. "I'm sure they'd love you. It's not that they aren't friendly, it's that they're hyperactive. They're names are Athos and Jacabo, if you want to try calming them." Perri sat on the couch next to Najia who promptly crawled in her lap.

Gabo
Gabo sat down on a section of the couch before asking, and he sighed. "I hope you don't mind me sitting down, it's just Kenji is a handful. I'm kind of tired." Hey waved to Najia and offered her a friendly smile. "She's so beautiful! I love her wings."

Kenji stared and Najia, too taken up in his own curisity to even blink. Her wings really were amazing. Kenji opened his mouth to express all of his graditude, but all that came out was another loud squeal, and a squeaky: "Pretty!"

User ImageJuly 26, 2oo4 ~ *cue 80's music* She is the Warrior!

As if Najia's semi-constant prowling and tendency to 'hunt down' the fox kits hadn't clued me in to my Angel's plans for becoming a warrior/huntress, last night's defense of the house against two very suprised burglers certainly did it. The two impromtu theives, who were actually drunk local high school kids broke one of the living room windows in hopes of making a mess and getting away with some electronic equipment they could sell. Instead they found themselves face to face with an angry Syn the size of a horse and their escape route blocked by Najia armed with a kitchen knife. She still isn't very steady on her feet, so she couldn't have rushed them and done any damage, but they didn't know that. And I must say she arranged herself very well in the window, so that she looked very nonchalant and threatening. Stuck between the huge growling menance that could harm them but wouldn't (Sumayah hates to get blood on her. It mars her perfection.) and the silent threat that couldn't harm them but would (We're going to need some house rules for bladed weapons.), the boys lost their cool. Rene heard them whimpering since she's been sleeping in the air conditioned office these last few hot days, and she got me up. Somehow, we both managed to appear stern and angry the entire time we negotiated the kids' release, and only collapsed laughing on the couch after they'd been escorted home by the police. We didn't press charges since the boys were clearly scared enough and it had been a stupid drunken prank anyway. For a job well done on guarding the house, Suma got an extra goat for breakfast and Najia got a 'burgler' plushie made by Rene. She loves the little thing and takes it with her everywhere. Rene is threatening to teach her the "Mission:Impossible" theme song so she can hum it while she plays with her new toy. Hoo boy.

Jia, it seems, has a very hard time staying hurt. Today she was "helping" me cook, and being facinated by knives decided to snatch one up. I got it away from her, but not before she managed to give herself a nasty gash on her arm. I swear, it was a deep, long cut that was dripping blood when I rushed for the first aid cabinet. A minute later when I returned, the only sign that Najia had been hurt was the dried blood on her fur. When I washed her arm there was no injury to be seen! Seeing my confusion, my little one laughed and told me how this "always happened" when she got hurt. At that point I got off track and had to lecture Najia about knife safety and how cutting oneself on purpose was a bad thing, even if she had no mark to show for it seconds later. Sigh. I'm going to have to break down and buy her a nice set of knives and show her how to use them, or she's going to continue to make herself bleed all over my bread knife.

Not that I'm not thrilled that one of my Angels gifts seems to be imperviousness to harm, because trust me, I am. It's just this detached, almost scientific study of harm and pain she's conducting that worry's me. I don't mind hunters, and even warriors have their place, but this "testing" of hers seems to pave a dangerous path to mercenaries or assasins. Maybe I'm just being squeamish, but still, I worry.
