Introduction
So all the people who hate me will probably be saying "What the ******** is he crying about now?" at this thread. To those very people, I advise you to leave this thread right now, so that if what I state ever happens, I can laugh at you for remaining ignorant on the seriousness of this issue.
However, what is this issue? NWO? Microchips? Big Brother? Bush Administration being a making a whore out of justice?
Nope. My subject is Net Neutrality. If you oppose it and are on this very site right now, you are a dumbass. Period.
You will also be thinking "this isn't the worst thing that can ever happen." Well, if that is what you are thinking, let me tell you that by saying "us", I mean "us internet users".
Now that all of that is out of the way, I can tell you about the subject.
Net Neutrality
This is the problem. The possible destruction of Net Neutrality. However, some of you may still be lost on this subject.
What is Net Neutrality?
Network neutrality is the principle that Internet users should be in control of what content they view and what applications they use on the Internet. The Internet has operated according to this neutrality principle since its earliest days. Indeed, it is this neutrality that has allowed many companies, including Google, to launch, grow, and innovate. Fundamentally, net neutrality is about equal access to the Internet. In our view, the broadband carriers should not be permitted to use their market power to discriminate against competing applications or content. Just as telephone companies are not permitted to tell consumers who they can call or what they can say, broadband carriers should not be allowed to use their market power to control activity online. Today, the neutrality of the Internet is at stake as the broadband carriers want Congress's permission to determine what content gets to you first and fastest. Put simply, this would fundamentally alter the openness of the Internet. (according to Google)
What is the Current Status of Net Neutrality?
Net neutrality is a major issue as the U.S. considers new telecommunications laws. The U.S. House of Representatives passed its telecommunications bill, H.R. 5252, in May, without adequate net neutrality protections. Now the fight has moved to U.S. Senate. On June 28, the Senate Commerce Committee passed its own telecom bill, S. 2686. While an amendment to the bill that would have added meaningful net neutrality safeguards failed 11-11, this tie vote marks a significant political victory and gives the effort new momentum. The debate now shifts to the full Senate, where advocates will be working to get strong net neutrality language is any bill that the Senate considers.
You may find the testimonies for both sides of the argument over here. It doesn't matter though, if the telecommunications businesses win, we lose.
However, do you still not understand what the threat is? If so, no problem, I have no qualms. Rather I have two videos to explain what Net Neutrality is and how its being threatened. You can either watch it explained by a ninja or watch it being explained in this nifty little video.
Argument Posed by the Anti-Neutrality Folks
"You see, the internet is not something you just dump something on. Its not a big truck! Its a series of tubes." (Ted Stevens)
He complained about how someone sent some "internets" to him and he didn't receive it until two days later. Really, this imbecile doesn't make sense. If it makes you feel any better, he's a dumbass Neocon senator. Go figure.
On June 28, 2006, the Senate commerce committee was in the final day of three days of hearings,[25] during which the Committee members considered over 200 amendments to an omnibus telecommunications bill. Senator Stevens authored the bill, S. 2686[26], the Communications, Consumer's Choice, and Broadband Deployment Act of 2006.
Of 22 Senators, 11 voted for the amendment and 11 against. Because it failed to garner majority support, the amendment failed.
However, guess what, it was nearly a 50/50 vote. Who knows, the next time it just might end up going the wrong way. I'm sure we'd want that.
My Argument
A telecommunications company will not ******** with my "internets". In fact, its not their "internets" to ******** with. If its anyone's "internets" to ******** with its the US Military, for they were the first ones to implement it. Last time I checked, these telecommunication corporations were not the military, they were companies.
However, that previous argument is flawed, and in fact there is no proper argument that is needed in order to cause these companies to stand down. The only thing we can say is "hey, the internet is everyone's." Or just overall oppose it. There is no "ultimate argument" that I can come up with.
In Conclusion
You just might say "oh you worry too much" or that its just a big "if". However do you want to know why I care "too much" about this issue above all issues currently present? Because without Net Neutrality it, imagine how great ED would be, imagine how great Gaia as a whole would be, imagine how great Youtube would be, imagine how great Google would be, oh just imagine the lack of possibilities.
The internet is the great equalizer. It is the land where anything and everything goes. It is the land where if one person who is considered "insignificant" in the real world, he can take on the entire world on the internet.
Still think that this is a half-a** issue that we should just undermine, and continue arguing about petty things such as abortion, God's existence, Barbie, furries, emos, why white supremacy s apparently "good", arguments showing bigotry towards atheists, arguments showing bigotry towards theists, etc?
Well if it wasn't for net neutrality, you wouldn't have a website like Gaia Online to even debate such topics on. Imagine how laggy an online MMO being created by a new company would be? Would google even exist? Would youtube exist? Would thebestpageintheuniverse.com exist?
Ultimately, without Net Neutrality would the following exist?

I thought not...
If you hadn't known about this until now and wish to do something about it, sign this petition. Its not much, but if you just sign, spread the word, and talk to your congress rep if you can, then at least you can tell yourself "hey, I care about the internet and that I should be able to have the same rights on it as Microsoft".
If Net Neutrality is destroyed, then these telecommunications corporation's HQ deserve to be bombed, and have every single one of their offices destroyed. Call me a radical...call me unethical...call that act criminal, but they deserve it and deep inside, you know that.
