Well, what contribution did the father do? He had sex. Does he carry the baby? Does he deal with the pains of childbirth? Does he deal with the shame of being an unwed mother (Not in all instances, but using it as example >.> wink So what rights does he have? If a woman is getting an abortion, chances are the father was just a sperm donor.

Well, if he raises the child, he deals with being an unwed father.

And how many 'unwed fathers' are out there raising the child? Realistically, it's the man who bails out and leaves the woman pregnant.

The father should always have a say in an abortion. An abortion is a serious decision, and the to-be baby is half his. He contributed just as much as she did.

However, I do believe the woman has the final say because it his her body. I believe it's wrong for a woman to have one without consulting the father, but when it comes down to it she gets to make the call.

With that said, I do also think this situation is completly unfair. I cannot help but feel sorry for the fathers who lose their to-be children because the mother didn't want it. Though, until there is a way to let the father keep the child without hurting the mother I stand by my opinion, as much as I hate it.

Usually when women get an abortion its because there is no father! They slept around, got pregnant and don't want to deal with the responsiblities. The man doesn't get a say anyway. Women end up going through the pain of labour and looking after the child that is born anyway. Why should we listen to their opinion?! scream

In the case that it was a consensual activity, I believe that the mother has the final choice. I think that she should discuss it with the father, and that he should have some say; however, until such is that the female is not needed to bear the child, I cannot say that the child should be kept alive, should it be wanted by the father, and not by the mother.

Well, then think of it this way: if the woman decides she wants the baby, the father will have to pay child support for the next 18 years. If the father decides he wants the baby, isn't it only fair that the woman has to accomodate him?
