Welcome, friends, to Spiritus. This place is just past the realm of possibility, and right in the middle of imagination. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if there were another you? Someone who shared your every thought, every whim, every wish and dream? Have you ever wanted to know what it's like to discover a bond stronger than that between twins? A bond that crosses worlds? You now have that chance.
Spiritus was founded by Talim and Valin. They do not give their last names. It is an agency dedicated to rescuing the beings called Shiyal from certain destruction. The only way they can be rescued, is if they are bonded to someone so tightly that their souls are actually two halves of one whole. This is our goal here at Spiritus.

The process of Bonding is rather simple. But the effects last a lifetime. For good, or for ill - what will you make of YOUR bond? What will you see when looking at the Shiyal who knows you better than you know yourself? Will you like what you see? Will you change it? It is up to you to decide... It is up to you to Free Your Soul.

Good day. My name is Valin, and I am one of the founders of Spiritus. The story of how our agency was started is a short, albeit important, tale.

It happened late in the summer a few years ago. My brother and I were out gathering rocks to skip across our neighbor's pond. Not exactly like the man WANTED us doing that, but we were younger then, and didn't really respect rules or take authority well. I had found the biggest, best, and smoothest skipping rock you could possibly imagine. Perfectly balanced for throwing. But when I picked it up, a noticed something buried in the dirt. Now, typically I wouldn't have given the small mound a single thought, but that day I happened to be bored witless. It was something to do. I knelt down, and brushed off what I thought was going to be another rock, or a dead bug... I was in for the shock of my young life.
There on the ground was what appeared to be a marble. It was exactly like one of the swirly-marbles I had in my collection at home. But there was one major difference. It was glowing. Of course, my first thought was to pocket it and sell it, but the moment I touched the smooth surface, a sharp pain when through my mind and I heard a tiny, tired voice whisper: "Save me."
At first, I was incredulous. It's not like marbles SPEAK, is it? But no. When I lifted the marble in my hand, I could clearly feel the presence of something there. Something that hadn't been there before. Something - someONE else sharing my thoughts. Almost as though my mind was a book being read for the first time. My life was being condensed, essentially, into a bite-sized novel, and scanned by the thing in my hand. The same thing was happening on the flip-side. I was catching glimpses of a life I'd never lived. Courts. Princes. Princesses. Giant beetles as horses, the pain in wings as I learned to fly, my parent's faces, fire. Only - those were not MY memories. Those were the memories of the being that I now knew was a Shiyal - or "Winged One" in its language. The creature started to take shape right from the marble. First, the marble melted, then started to reform, taking on MY qualities, only in miniature. My hair. My eyes. My skin. Even down to my clothing. Every detail copied precisely and without hesitation. The only differences between myself, and the creature in my palm, were size and wings. He - for he was now male, to match me - had gorgeous, delicate butterfly wings, glittering red. Somehow, he made ME look regal. Which was a hard enough task in and of itself.
By now, my brother had found us, and was staring with wide open eyes, and a shaking body. I had to smile. He looked so... well.. scared. But he was not my main concern right now. My main concern was the creature in my palm that looked like me. And sounded like me, for I suddenly heard my own voice in my head, telling me things in a language that I knew was not English, but I suddenly understood.
He told me of the days his people had been free, and unhindered. When they had been allowed to roam as they pleased, and nothing could stand in their way. He told me of courts of gold, riding stag-beetles, racing pet ants, and life in the Courts of the Shiyal. But then, he explained, things grew worse by the year. Famine broke out. Thousands died because of that, and floods. Fire wiped out many villages, and an earth-tremor decimated an entire underground city of his people. Only he, and the few he managed to round up, were the ones that survived. His people needed help, and my brother and I were the only ones that could see them. Thus, the only ones that could help.
Over the next few days, my brother bonded to his own Shiyal, and we exchanged names. Mine told me he was called JunJinmetakina. My brother's was named Kalvinirisiata. But for the sake of our poor human tongues, they shortened them to Jun and Kal. Together, all four of us brainstormed ways to find permanent homes for the rest of the survivors. All our ideas were leading to dead ends. Until Kal told us something that we did not know, and Jun had not thought to tell us. He told us that the Shiyal had to be bonded to the earth. THAT sparked conversation.
When a Shiyal child was born, it was usually bonded to the nearest element. But lately, that practice had been forgone for the sake of safety, and there were many, many unbonded, depressed, and dying. My brother and I decided right then and there to take in trustworthy people, to bond to the Shiyal as we had. It was not a difficult process, and our theory was that if elements could be bonded - non-living things - why not people? Both Kal and Jun agreed. Thus, Spiritus was born!

It is our hope that our agency can save this race. Many, many more Shiyal are in need of a bond to survive, and a home to call their own. The bonding becomes the merging and embodiment of the soul - the one true source of life. Having heard this story... Are you ready to FREE that soul?

Valin is the younger - and probably wiser - of the two brothers, and he was the first to find a Spiritus and bond with it. He's the sensible one, and a bit of a nag. Correcting people is in his nature. He is the one you go to for 'breedings', to get new Shiyal, or to help with small medical problems. His Shiyal is Jun, the very first, and king, of the Shiyal.

"I swear... if there was a penny for every time you left your mouth open, Talim, I'd be rich. Stop acting like a venus fly trap!"

Talim is the older of the founders, and truthfully a little slow. He's not too quick to take to change, and he likes it when things stay the same, so as not to be confusing. But he's got a good sense of humor, and is fairly nice. It's easy to get along with him. He's the one you go to for items and outfits. His Spiritus is Kal, the second ever, Prince of the Shiyal, and friend to all.

I... uh.... suppose I should tell you the rules, huh?

1] Do not harass those of the thread. It is disrespectful, and nothing comes of it. Do not flame the thread itself, either.

2] Don't beg for a Spiritus. There is a free raffle every month for Spiritus, and RP-based flatsales regularly. Get a ticket, or wait for a flatsale. Your chance will come!

3a] Keep swearing to a minimum. This is Gaia's TOS. If you need to have an all-out curse-fest, please take it to instant messengers.
3b] Keep everything PG-13. I don't want to walk in here, and find cybering in the thread. :: Shudder ::

4] Do not steal the artwork! The artist worked hard on this, and taking it is both insensitive, and can get you in big trouble. Just don't do it!

5] Play nice. No religion, politics, or 'who is better' arguments in this thread! From my experience, it just makes things stressful, and no one wants to deal with that!

6] Obey the shop owner, and the shop Moderator as if they were words carved in stone. They are the final authority on all activities. If you have a problem with someone, report it first to the shop mods - don't PM the mule!

7] This is a fantasy-modern based shop, taking place on Earth. Aside from special cases, I don't want to see cyborgs, or fairy princesses in here. There will be time for that later.

8] STAY ACTIVE! I can't stress this enough. None of us want a good shop to die, but without people RPing, it will! Try to at least post in an RP and/or journal once a month, if not more. There will be rewards for those who stick to this!

9] There shall be no discrimination. This is just a no-no in ANY shop, and I won't have it in this one.

10] Be Literate! We do not speak L337! Use complete sentences and make sense! If English isn't your first language, please tell us by PMing one of the mods.

11] After all is said and done - Have fun! That's what this place is really FOR, right? ^_^

This would be where I'll answer questions that people ask, as well as a few basic ones that everyone should just be aware of.

"So what exactly ARE Spiritus? Shiyal? Marbles? I don't get it."

It is really very simple to understand. Shiyal are the race of what we call Spiritus - Spiritus is Latin for "Sprite". A sprite, as we know, is a fairy. Spiritus are essentially fairies that come from your own thoughts, memories, and life experiences to form a clone of you. Or not, as the case may be. The marbles are the stage of the 'baby' Spiritus, or the Spiritus that have been Sealed. More on that later.

"Ok, so they're fairy clones. Cool. How do I get one?"

Look at the "Where is Home?" post on the front page of the thread. That is the Availability post, and will tell you all you need to know about customs, raffles, flatsales, and auctions.

"Can I get one for free?"

Actually, you can! At the end of every month and on every holiday, we hold a free raffle. There is more about it in the Availability post.

"I've got my Spiritus... Now what?"

In the Guild, you will find journals, home threads, and other places to RP your little friend. If you prefer not to RP after the Emergent stage, please PM the mule with a 'Sig-Only" request. I urge you to continue to roleplay though! The rewards for doing so are astounding.

"AAAAAH! I don't know what to write about in my journal!"

Relax! Calm down! Take a deep breath. Journals will be started by the shop Mule, who will post what are called 'Prompts' every once in a while inside the top posts of your journals. This is to give you something to write about. If you choose to ignore the prompt, that's alright. You get 'points' for every RP-prompt you complete in your journal, or in the guild.

"...Points?"

Points - called Essence Points, or EP, are what allow you to buy items from the shops, purchase new outfits, art, or even familiars for your Shiyal. Points can be spent just like Gaia Gold. The more RP you participate in, the more Points you earn, and the better things you can afford. For non-Spiritus owners, Points can be saved up to buy a Sealed Shiyal, or a non-growing Nudgling.

"So you don't have to be an owner to RP?"

The term is "Bonded", and no, you don't. Potential bondees can also join us in events within the metaplot, answering RP-prompts, and even keeping journals. In the case of a non-owner journal, if/when you DO get your Shiyal, it will be added to the top-post of your journal - which will be made by the shop Mule.

"How many Spiritus are we allowed to have?"

You are only allowed to Bond to one Spiritus per character. But you are allowed to have four characters, each with their own Shiyal to care for. Your first Shiyal must reach Emergent for you to be able to purchase another. Taking care of a Shiyal baby is hard work, after all!

"Are we allowed to co-own? What about twins?"

Co-owning twins is NOT allowed, except in special cases, such as auctions, or 'Insane' customs. Twins are rare, and we plan to keep them that way. When twin Shiyal are born, they are half of each other's souls. And that soul is then again split with you. Twins are weaker than most, and must be cared for properly. Thus, if you already OWN one Shiyal, you may NOT have twins unless: You plan on freezing you current one, Your current Shiyal is either Self or Indi, or you currently have only a Sig-Only Shiyal. Other cases may be accepted, but it's a matter of circumstance.

"Ok... What exactly is Sealed?"

Sealed Spiritus are those who have voluntarily put themselves into a spelled coma, deep inside the magic egg that is the 'Marble'. Much as a newborn Shiyal, they await their bond, and are essentially 'reborn' as their bonded merges with them. However, Sealed Spiritus still have memories from the Shiyal Court, or another Bonded, and those who are Bonded to a Sealed Shiyal gain THOSE memories, and may act quite a bit differently because of the melding of previous personalities into both the Shiyal and the new Bonded.

Soul Marble
The Shiyal has been given to you as a small, colorful marble. It is not very large, and you can hold it in the palm of your hand with ease. Now and then, you feel something in your mind that is not you, and whenever you touch the marble, it feels like someone is 'reading' your thoughts, your life, like a novel.

Nudgling
The Shiyal has been 'born' from the marble now, and resembles a childlike version of yourself. Your eyes, your hair, your skin, and even your clothing. It even has a younger version of your voice. Your connection to the Nudgling is strong, and you seem to know more about each other, than you know about yourselves. You see into your Nudgling's previous life before the disaster [if it is a Shiyal that had been Sealed], or you see and know all the ways of the Shiyal Court. Your Nudgling knows your friends, your family, even your pets. It may or may not talk, but any words will be hesitant. They are still small enough to sit in the middle of your hand without much effort - but be careful! They do not yet have wings, and are very fragile creatures. They will start building what appear to be cocoons.

Transformation
There comes a time in the life of every Shiyal, when they must enter a cocoon-like structure that they have built for themselves, and sleep through the next changes. There are very few cases where the Shiyal are unable to sleep through the changes, and are in extreme pain, but thankfully they are rare. Within the cocoon, you will be able to see the slow changes as the Shiyal progresses through to the next stage of life. If you look closely enough, you can see their life-light pulse in time with their heartbeats. They are essentially in a deep sleep - akin to a coma. Be careful with them, and do not break the cocoons!

Emergent
The Shiyal has finally, after two long months, emerged from its cocoon! And look at it... It now has WINGS! And has decided whether it wants to be male or female, though this more has to do with personality, since the appearance never really changes. Shiyal, after all, do not have breasts. Not even the women. At this stage, their wings will be their sense of pride - and yours, for your bond will have strengthened from the time you spent looking after them when in their cocoon. At this stage, they can still fit in your hand, but they may need to dangle their legs! They now talk in complete sentences, and have developed personalities of their own, or matching yours - depending on how they feel. This is the last stage most Shiyal reach.

These Shiyal have either been treated roughly, or just plain don't like you. They become spiteful, nasty little creatures with a flair for mischief and the embodiment of all that is dark in you. They may drink, smoke, carouse, or cause trouble in other ways. However, they are still bound to you - more tightly than ever - and are bound and determined to make your life a living hell. Their wings will become decayed, tattered and torn. They may even LOSE their wings.

Balance
Neither good nor evil, this Shiyal are well-accustomed to you now, and know you more than you think they do. They can be nice at times, and nasty at others, but generally remain in harmony with those around them. They have likes, dislikes, and other things that make them seem almost human. They are their own person, and their wings will grow to reflect this - they may decay partially, but still hold their shape, or colors may mix and mingle.

Feather
These Shiyal are perfect saints. They have been treated very well, but have lived through many harsh and harrowing adventures. However, they always took the high road, thinking of others - not themselves. They will stop to help anyone in need. Many of these Shiyal gain Healing powers. Their wings will fall off, to be replaced by wings akin to a bird's, usually white, and beautiful. They make take on a bit of a glow the older and more on the side of good they get.

FINAL DECISION

Self
The Shiyal has been through many difficulties, but has stayed true to YOUR personality all the way through. These Shiyal have a strong sense of who they are, and who you are. You feel as though you are one with your bonded one, and may even be in love.
This Shiyal has attained the Self stage, where he/she may take on your form, full-size. They may have a little trouble adjusting to the height difference, and while full-sized, their wings are only tattoos on their backs. But since you already stick together, you will be able to help your Shiyal through whatever hardships you may face. The Shiyal has, in essence, become your twin.

Indi
The Shiyal has decided, for whatever reason, to NOT be like you. Either you treated him/her badly, or there is some other underlying cause behind this. You may not be as close to your Shiyal as you once were. It may feel as though that bond has been fractured somewhat. In this instance, the Shiyal will become its own person. Capable of taking on full human form with no wings, he/she may stay like that. They may run away. They may do things that you wouldn't dream of doing. They may try to make you angry, or try to spite you. But you are still connected. That bond can be repaired if you only try hard enough - you may still be able to live in peace.

Aaah! So you are interested in perhaps Bonding to a Shiyal, and gaining your very own Spiritus? Awesome! You've come to the right place. We have several options...

At the end of every month, and on every Holiday, we will hold a FREE Raffle for a Spiritus of your very own! However, to get Raffle tickets, there will be a catch. It might be something you have to say, something you have to find, or something you have to RP. The 'condition' for the month/holiday will be posted below. READ CAREFULLY. This will be a typical roleplay-based Spiritus sale, generally with two to four Marbles up for consideration. Each Spiritus will be sold for 15K to the person who wins them. Everyone who tries and does not win will get a Sprite for their effort.

Speed Flatsales

This is the most rare of all of the methods, as Speed Flatsales are hated by the artist. During this sale, A number of Marbles will be placed on display, and a date will be given, as well as a time. AT that time, the words "FREE YOUR SOUL" will be posted in huge green and blue letters. After that, it is first-come first-served. No whining will be tolerated, and Sprites will be awarded to those who remain mature during the 10-minute time limit.

Custom RP-Flatsale

Custom RP-Flatsales are rare as well, but not QUITE as rare as speeds. These will be for Questers or Potentials - people who have hung around the shop, RPed with us, and also may have Quests for a Spiritus. They will consist of TWO completely custom Spiritus being sold for half-price. The winner will be determined in a 'round' method. 1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round [etc...] until there are only two left. EACH participant will be grated 1 Sprite, and 20 EP for their effort.

UPCOMING CUSTOM RP-FLATSALES: None

And here we have Auctions. These are rare, and reserved for 'special case' Spiritus, such as twins, royalty, and powerful Sealed that need new homes. ONE Shiyal will be auctioned. The starting price and auto-buy will be decided at the time of the auction. Also during auctions, active people in the thread will get Spirtes. This is determined by a specific number of INTELLIGENT posts [no 'bump' over and over again] set by the Mule, and known only to the Staff.

Last, but certainly not least, are the Customs. Before you ask, yes, they DO include Cosplays, and I will get to that in just a moment. There are four 'Levels" of Custom - Surprise, Simple, Complex, and Insane.

Surprise Customs

Surprise customs are just that. A surprise. You choose three characters you'd like to use for your Bonding. Be sure to include reference images for Hair, Clothing, Skin, and Eyes - unless you want to go off REALLY thorough descriptions. You receive your Marble, and you must play those THREE characters taking care of it. When it emerges, you will know which one it has Bonded to. You may get lucky, and have it Bond to all three!

You will receive your Marble a week [or less] after it is ordered.

Otherwise known as "Bribe the artist" XD
These customs allow you to control EVERYTHING. Every stage is drawn to YOUR specifications, you have the option to freeze and start RP with you Spiritus any time you like without having to spend EP at the item store. You are allowed to do ANYTHING you want - Non-human, Cosplays, Avatars, and even TWINS. This is the only other way aside from Auctions to get twins. Along with your Spiritus, you will get a close-up headshot of your Shiyal to use in journals, a miniature version of them for RP, and guaranteed growths to the very last stage. You are also allowed to choose your Spiritus's path, regardless of how you RP them. This is the ONLY, and I repeat ONLY way to get extreme Cosplays! This section ALSO includes Pet-Trades. Please offer, but don't be angered if the artist says No. You will certainly get a Sprite for trying, and be put into consideration when handouts are underway. > > Oops, did I say that out loud?
