Welcome to Gaia! ::

It was cold where she walked, an unkown place in space and time. It was a path, surrounded by trees, the scents of earth and pine hung thick in the air. Lien breathed deeply and wrapped her arms around her. The wooden geta she had slipped on in her escape were cutting her feet to shreds and the thin cotton of her robe was doing nothing to keep her this frame warm.

Sniffing through her numb nose she trained her eyes to look for somewhere she might stop, there was a village up ahead, she could see the houses. White havens peaking through the trees, tinting the earthy scent of the air with woodsmoke.

fires, she thought with a smile. Maybe she would be able to beg a place by a fire. She had a bit of money, though she doubted the yen would be a useful currancy in this new world. Shivering a little, she made her way slowly to the cluster of buildings.

Blessed Friend

Meander sat, staring morosely into the fire she had kept going since before sundown. She had been able to feed herself and her cat, though they had kept to small game. One hand was buried in the thick fur of the extremely large cat taht was sprawled drowsily next to her.

They hadn't taken much from the surrounding forest, since they didn't know the rules of the local territory. Truthfully, she was feeling very disturbed. She didn't recognize this new place, but was reasonably sure, from what others had told her, that this was not at all what Outland should look like on the other side of the portal. She was also reasonably sure that the portal shouldn't have dumped them out ten feet off the ground into a clump of berry bushes.

But even more troubling since she had gotten here was this village. It had appeared quite normal from a distance during the day, gleaming white buildings peeking from between green trees. But when she'd arrived and began peeking in the houses, terrible things met her eyes. She had seen some unbearable things in her career as a hunter of Teldrassil, but this was nothing along the line of what she was used to.

All that had been left were bones. Intact skeletons sprawled wherever they had been. There were some slumped over tables, others left in tubs, and even some leaning out windows. Nothing else was left of them. Most heartwrenching were the smaller skeletons, which she was quite sure were not gnome bones. Children had died as well. But she saw no preperations for attack, not even any indication that they'd mounted a defense, or run away. As if they had all died at once, in the blink of an eye.

She couldn't have known Destruction's power, nor his reach. She didn't yet know that the gods were being reborn, nor that there was a struggling remnant of people still clinging to their lives here and there. All she knew is that she and Velvet were alone in this new and eerie world, sitting at the fire she had made some distance from the dead village. Despite her years of battle, she simply could not bring herself to be comfortable in any of those houses.

Velvet, immune to such concerns, purred with deep vibration beside her, eyes closed and posture ultimately relaxed.
Lien did not sense the death that lay in the village. She was used to bad things but death, no, massacres were not something she was familiar with outside of the history channel and her parents and grandparents stories of war.
Unwittingly she stepped out of the soothing dark of the forrest and felt her blood run cold. All around her were bodies ... no, not even bodies, remains.

As she walked slowly through what had once been a quaint town not even the sun could warm her. It was like something from her grandfather's tales. Death as far as the eye could see, she breathed deeply and swallowed. Had she been less hardened to the cruelty of life she might have cried or screamed. As it was she kept walking, saying a prayer for the dead in silence.

She could see the smoke as she emerged on the other side of the village, no, graveyard and found herself faced with two choices. She could investigate or run. She stood for a moment, listening to her stomach growl and shivering before deciding she had nothing to lose.

The owner of the fire was a woman, a strong looking woman with a big cat. A tiger? she thought for a moment. Though it did not look like one.
"Excuse me?" She asked, not stepping too close. Now what, she thought to herself. "Um, may i join you?" A phrase that was better suited to restaurants and cafes. What else could she say when faced with such an outlandish situation?

Blessed Friend

Surrounded by such death as she was, you'd have thought she'd have kept her senses out for humanoids, but truthfully, she didn't feel anytying she could track had been responsible for this old carnage. Thus it was Velvet's purr stopping and sitting up to stare into the darkness that alerted her first. Just as she cast the spell to sense who was there, the halting voice revealed where the 'intruder' was.

Meander focused her eyes on the individual, then frowned. This was certainly no threat. If anything, it was cause for concern FOR the indivudal. The girl before her was painfully thin, and wasn't clad for such cross-country travel. She frowned further at the odd implements on the girl's feet. It was Velvet's tentative growl of warning at the girl with one ear folded towards the nightelf that snapped her out of her study. "Ishnu-alah," she welcomed the human female to the fire. She immediately dove into the massive backpack resting beside her, beginning to pull various things out of it.

First were two apples, then a chunk of cheese, thirdly was a loaf of thick-crusted bread. She passed these immediately to the girl before again rummaging around in her pack. While she did so, she spoke in a softly accented voice. "Tell me, why has one so clearly not ready for travel come such a long way, as you have?" She glanced up, her blue-green long hair falling over her shoulders and not even coming close to covering the astonishingly long points on her ears.
Lien paused as the big tiger like animal began to growl at her. She did not know what it was but she knew she did not want to anger it. Watching as the woman hushed the beast she took another tentative step forwards. Her eyes watching the pair carefully, testing, like a wary animal.

The woman was a strange creature too, not human though this did not seem to frighten Lien. She was unsure why, in all rational thought such beings should not be sat before her offering her food. They belonged in stories and games. Maybe it was a hunger induced hallucination,or a dream of some kind. Shrugging inwardly she took a seat and reached out to take one of the apples.

"I, uh, I escaped." she said simply, watching the large cat warily still. "I did not have time to collect my belongings." She paused for a moment, looking at the apple. "where is this?" she asked.

Blessed Friend

Murmuring, she quieted the pale cat with purple stripes further, until the feline again lazed in a relaxed fashino, flicking her tail and squeezing her eyes shut. Affectionately scratching the cat's huge jaw, the smiled at the thin waif to try and reassure her. The rest of the food she set beside the girl, and then continued digging through her pack. "Aha!" She withdrew, expression triumphant, with a pair of soft cloth shoes of the sensible sort. "I thought I might have some of these in here." She set aside the backpack and held the shoes out to the girl.

"Here child, these will do you more good than those wooden platforms you have on." She set them beside the extra apple, cheese, and bread. "So you have escaped with your life and naught else...," she mused. She did not ask aloud, yet, what it was the girl was fleeing from. Instead, she shook her head at the last question. "I was hoping it was you who could tell me where this place is. This is definitely not where I was intending to go." She frowned again, glancing around at the darkly looming trees. "And it seems this place has dangers even greater than those I know of in my world!" Her tone expressed just how great a surrprise this was to the night elf.

With night falling, she began to prepare for a night beneath the stars. She was quite used to it herself, rarely spending much time in houses or cities herself. They tended to make Velvet feel cramped, anyway. But a glance at her new companion told her the girl probably felt more comfortable indoors than out. She took several items from her pack and created a pallet of sorts, with a heavy woolen blanket. "I won't be needing much rest myself... it was morning in my world," she bent the truth somewhat. it had been morning at the time, but at this point it had been a stressful if short day. She'd doze with her back to a tree, though. "Why don't you take my bed, while I keep watch with Velvet?"

The cat raised her head and her tail began to lash excitedly when her name was mentioned. She was extremely loyal, and loved any attention and activity that could be shared with her bonded hunter. For now the other was simply an erstwhile associate, not worth Velvet's attention.
Lien smiled at the big cat as she saw it was not a threat to her and watched it's contentment. She loved cats, they were her favourite animal. Afterall she believed herself to be one of their species. Cunning, able to land on her feet and definitely in possesion of nine lives.

As the shoes were handed to her she gave the strange woman a broad, genuine smile.
"Thank you." She said, slipping her geta off and sliding her sore feet into the comfortable cloth. They were a little too big, but they were better than nothing. She thought as she wiggled her toes.

"I am not from here." She said, pulling her knees up and hugging them with one arm as she ate the apple. "I was walking, wandering through the rice fields and the woods when i found myself here."

She smiled as she was offered a bed and tried to remember a time when she had known such kindness. True kindness.
"Thank you again." She said, her smile growing wider. "Where are you headed? To find a way back to your homeland?"

Blessed Friend

The graceful nightelf paused and crouched on her heels, expression thoughtful. As was almost always true, when not actually tending to a task, she had one hand buried in her cat's thick fur.

"I hadn't put much thought into what to do next," she answered truthfully. "I only arrived earlier today, not far from this village." She sighed and scooped a handful of the dirt. Despite the greeness of the forest around them, the soil was dry and dusty. She sifted it through her long fingers, rubbing it meditatively against her palm with her fingertips.

"But as to getting home," she shook her head resolutely. "I don't think that will be possible. The portal that brought me here must have twisted somehow, and only opened here long enough to dump me out, then closed again immediately." She tightened the fingers of her hand in Velvet's fur and looked down at her dear companion. "I'd say she and I are stranded here permenantly."

Velvet seem unmoved by their predicament, as she was currently purring like a herd of draft horses on the run, and flexing her claws in the dead earth. For her, home was clearly wherever Meander was. It was easy to be content when you were such a big kittycat.
Lien watched the woman and smirked at her words. So, here they were, lost and stranded though Lien had no desire to return to her homeland.
"I do not wish to return." She said, turning her dark eyes back to the elegant woman. "So this world suits me, or would suit me could I find a place to stay within it." She shrugged and smiled at the purring of Velvet. "Though I fear the land is cursed, and maybe not the best place to settle."
