Avatar: The Eternal Conflict

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Story:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Upon the planet of Avatar, Etoh descended. He used his power of creation to create a race upon the planet that models himself, called Humes. He placed the first Humes amongst the Praetoran plains. It takes many years, around two thousand, for the Humes to evolve to a point equal to medieval earth. The direct descendants of the first Humes settled to the north in the heart of the plains, nestled by the forests. They formed a system of tribes loosely connected together by a grand chieftain. The others, however, took their knowledge of steel and formed the walls that create the Kingdom of Veldis.

The first Grand Chieftain of the Praetora was elected, his name is Kent Krenheln. At the same time King Argaman Kriegs of Veldis began peaceful talks with Kent, and the world lived in harmony until Argaman's death of natural causes. With Argaman's death, Kent's peace treaty was squashed by the new king, Alexander Kriegs. Alexander started the building of an army to invade Praetora and claim it for his own. The people of Praetora were enraged which resulted in the murder of Grand Chieftain Kent by Alexander's assassins, yet it was blamed by the Kingdom of Veldis upon disenfranchised tribesmen. A council was formed to elect a new Grand Chieftain.

Kotomine was elected Grand Chieftain just as the Vinra, the first creation of Etoh, arrived within boats of such beautiful creation. The Vinra saw the horrors of the Kingdom of Veldis and soon after establishing a foothold on the new continent within the forest-lands led an assault upon Veldis. Etoh shed four tears when he saw his creations fight amongst themselves, known as the Etoh Artifacts which also revealed the existence of the Eight Celestial Runes.

Geography

Kennas The center of Praetora. It started out as a small fishing village, however when Kent became Grand Chieftain, his headquarters became this city. As such, it is quite different than the other tribal villages, instead Kennas is a city of iron and brick, much like Veldis. The city is surrounded by large iron-reinforced palisade walls, thus the only entrance is a gateway system at the southern end of the walls.

Kirant Home of the largest tribe, the Altamana tribe, this city is second only to Kennas, center of the Praetora lands. Similar to Kennas it has palisade walls, however the city entrance is a well guarded archway in the western region.

Vattia A small fishing village on the outskirts of the Praetora lands. If war comes, this will be the first village to be hit. Thus recently it has been a host to many mercenaries and others who have been hired by the council to defend Praetora.

(Those are it for now, if you are praetoran and you wish to create a new village, you are welcome to.)

Social

The society of the praetoran lands are based on two forms of government, a council made up by the people who can create an army and who elects the Grand Chieftain as well as the Grand Chieftain, who resides over the many tribes and makes many of it's key decisions. If the people of the land think the Grand Chieftain is not doing a good job, they can simply cast a vote of no confidence. Since the tribal people run the government in all essentials of the word, they are of the highest and only echelon of government. Every being within the praetoran that is of a tribe is considered equal. the only beings that rise above his echelon are the tribal chieftains and the Grand Chieftain. The people of the praetoran heavily rely on farming and fishing as a way of life, they are a people of farming. There are a few blacksmiths residing within Kennas, as well as other jobs, however farming and fishing are the major occupations.

Geography

Argaman Named after the first king of Veldis, Argaman is the center of the kingdom. the city is surrounded by walls that are a compilation between steel and stone. The only entrance into the city is in the northern area of the wall, a complex gateway, which opens up to a road that comes to an archway, a portcullis set in firmly and cast of steel. From there the winds into the common square, which splits into three districts, Commercial, Residential, and the Royal Square. Past the Royal Square is the palace, which is made of marble on the inside, yet stone on the outside. On the top floor of the palace is the only airship dock within the entire country.

Zephyeal A major military city, Zephyeal is the only border city, as from this city a stone wall with the occasional outpost stretches from mountain range to mountain range. The city houses twin garrisons. Both garrisons are made primarily of steel with stone support, housing thirty cannons per garrison.

Draknarn Draknarn is the chief city of Dragoons. It is where the High Dragoon is elected, and where dragoons are trained and sent into the rest of the kingdom.

(Those are it for now, if you are Veldis and you wish to create a new village or city, you are welcome to.)

Technology

Technology is fairly high in Veldis, to the point where the first Airship dock has been created within the palace. The height of technology is siege engines, such as catapults, cannons, ballistae, and the following, though it has not made it's way to the household use as of yet.

Social

The society of Veldis is based on the King, he holds all the power since Argaman's separation of church and state. Nobility holds a quarter of that power as well, along with their status. They are the main tax payers since the formation of Veldis, and suprisingly have yet to complain about it. Nobles make up knights, which are often officers or hold a higher status than the ordinary soldier.

Next on the line are commoners, the mainstay of Veldis' population. Commoners make up the major percent of the work force, the only job they are outdone in are the jobs slaves work. Slaves are the lowest level of society, they are given protection by their masters for their labor.

[Wrath of Etoh]Ragnell - Known as the 'Wrath of Etoh' due to being one of the four Etoh Artifacts, The sword once was wielded by Vincent's father Volke. Ragnell bears the 'Sovereign Rune' which is one of the seven celestial runes that govern our world. Ragnell is a finely crafted Veldis sword with runic engravings that span the sides of the Sovereign Rune. The runic engravings upon the sword's surface can bathe the sword in the flames of Etoh's wrath.

*Sovereign Rune - The Sovereign Rune grants its wielder the ability to augment a karmic force known as 'Brave'. Where once only a small margin for victory may be assured, a greater margin will be allowed with the Sovereign Rune in place. However, the amount of karmic force generated by the wielder is dependent on two factors. One is the moral nature of its wielder. Courage is a key ingredient to the power of the rune. Secondly, it can only be used in desperate situations, and will not affect karmic matters of small importance.

Skills: Master Swordsman; Combat Strategy; Political Strategy; Rune Sorcery

Synopsis: Vincent Crimea, Commander of the Crimea Mercenaries and only remaining member of the Crimea Noble bloodline, is the son of legendary swordsman Volke Velgadia and the legendary Countess Celicia Crimea. His father was the last wielder of the Sovereign Rune, while his mother was the last bearer of the Healer Rune which is another of the Eight Celestial Runes. At an early age he had grown up in Praetora and was brought up to believe that he was also a part of that culture. Abandoned as a small baby he knew neither birthplace, name, nor any knowledge of his original family. When he reached the age of 10 he was found by his mother Celicia, who placed him within House Crimea. Vincent found royal life too different from what he was used to, however after learning that he was Celicia's only son, he remained within the family as it was Celicia's last wish.

Vincent trained to become a Knight of Veldis and showed natural talent as both a strategist and a swordsman and was trained directly by Volke himself who had no knowledge that Vincent was his son. Vincent was placed within Volke's Knight Brigade on Volke's own request and took place in the Battle of Luccas. After seeing how evil that Veldis had become, Volke and Vincent left to form the Volke Mercenary Union. After the death of Volke in the Battle of Argaman in which the Volke Mercenary Union defended the Capital City of Argaman against the Vinra, Vincent took command of the Volke Mercenary Union.

*Wanderer Rune - It's main power and most potent one involves rumors. If the bearer can convince enough people that something is true, it will be, even if it really wasn't. A weapon supposedly out of ammunition suddenly have one more shot, or a traveling merchant could so up where it was predicted he would be, even if he normally travels at random. The rune tends to carry some of the abilities possessed by previous holders. This was demonstrated when a Vinra Rune-Knight Lansra transferred the the rune to Rohan, who suddenly developed an affinity for Vinra Magic. However, the rune also influences the bearer to do certain things. Namely, the Wanderer Rune encourages the bearer to travel, to wander.

Synopsis: Rohan has had a fascination with the Dragoons since he could speak, but it was not in the place of a Fatima, the noble family of former Dukes, to become a Dragoon. In the Vinra Wars, his dragon Melka was slain though he managed to kill a Vinra captain named Lansra and gained the Wanderer Rune. Without a dragon, Rohan was ousted from the Dragoons.

Vincent drudged himself up from the depths of his bed, pulling himself to topple about to his feet, swooning slightly as his feet carried him from the bedroom he inhabited within a small manor he had purchased recently within Kennas, his eyes scanning across the rest of the second floor, several rows of small guest bedrooms like the one he had just slept in lined it, preoccupied by the members of his Mercenary Union. As he started to make his way down a pair of wood stairs, his left eye caught one of the many servants heading his way, the girl was young and had bright blue tresses that brushed down a bit past her shoulders. She wore a black shirt and simple black pants with a white maid's apron, frilly on the edges. She dipped into a light bow in his direction, speaking up lightly. "Master Vincent, is there something I can help you with?" Vincent looked to her for a second, formulating a possible way to get her working and out of his plan. He nodded slightly, lips slightly parching.

"Yes, some eggs would be nice....and perhaps a sausage as well, M'lady." Vincent replied, and the servant nodded and skittered off farther into the second floor, whereas Vincent crept down to the first, his eyes darting all around his surroundings until he deemed himself safe. He began to open the front door. Stealthily, he stepped out and closed it almost soundless, then turned around, his eyes meeting the stormy hazel eyes of Roy, a friend and a former knight that had served under his father Volke and like Vincent had left th Veldis Military when Volke had.

"What are you doing slipping out of your new home with thirty plus more than desirable maids?"

"Heh...Roy."

"What about that hot one, wasn't her name Lynis?"

"You know that she only has the hots for you, Roy, I'm just not the ladies man like you." Roy cracked a half-smile as Vincent continued to the grand hall, gathering much attraction from the tribesmen within Kennas. It was as if they had never seen a Veldian before. Most of them stood with their jaw unhinged until Vincent pulled the great doors aside, and stepped within the confines of the great court, many of the court ladies swooning over him as he passed them, straightening his cape as his eyes fell upon the grand councilor. The other members of the council sat in a large raised table around the room, and suddenly Vincent became the spotlight. He finally pulled his torso into one of the seats at the central table. They were waiting for the secutor to arrive with the official ruling on who would be the new Grand Chieftain.
Blood sloshed along the ground as Rohan strode through the ruined plains with a bland and tattered brown cloak thrown over the shoulders id his armor, green in colour and line in gold. Ahead of him his fellow warrios of the Volke Mercenary Union were doing battle with a group of bandits which far out-numbered them. Rohan showed no signs of worry or even care, the Volke Mercenary Union consisted only of talented warriors whose talent was double after they had joined the Union and been through it's rigorous training.

Before him was his apprentice, a boy in his late teens that went by the name of Tirian, struggled with the leader of the bandit group, the large man's battle axe proving more swift and powerful than Wallace could handle with only his shortsword. Rohan crossed his arms and watched quietly for a moment, examining not only the bandit lord's fighting style, but his apprentice's as well, unfortunately both were rusty. He regretted that he didn't train Tirian as often as he should have, but Rohan was able to place great trust and even admiration in the boy's determination.

Tirian ducked from the bandit's horizontal blow, but wasn't expecting a follow kick and had to think fast to block the man's knee from crushing in his face. Holding his forearm up he braced himself and took the blow well, wrapping his arm quickly around the man's leg before he could recover and pulling him down into the mud slick grass, bringing his shortsword around full circle in hopes of killing the man right then and there. The bandit was about to bring his battle ace crashing hard into Wallace's head when a massive black spear-blade came crushing down hard upon the man's arm, causing him to scream before Tirian instinctively brought the blade of his shortsword piercing down into his throat.

"You shouldn't underestimate your opponent Tirian, and next time don't let your emotions control you." Rohan said no more, but rest his hand on the boy's shoulder comfortingly as he brought Vanity up and around to rest in it's sheath on his back. The rest of the Mercenaries gathered around them. There were seven in all, surrounded by thirty-five bandit corpses.
Vincent decided he had better make an appearance within the Union Headquarters today, so he had made it to the Stables. vincent took the reins of his horse from the stable master, and began to lead it out of the gate when he was rudely stopped by a pair of brigands, and from they way they were dressed, they were from Veldis. He tried to move forwards, but three of the seven stepped forth and attempted to shove him back onto his back. Stepping aside easily and relinquishing Ragnell from her scabbard, he faced the Brigand.

"You are attacking the wrong city, go back to your side of the border."

The brigands stood as if waiting for something, however one of their numbers spoke up. "Heh, this is our side..."

The brigands didn't seem to want to wait for who or what they had been waiting for all this time, as they all lunged their swords into the general direction of Vincent in such a speed that he had little time to react. He spun his body to the left, the first three swords being averted by the action as he rolled his shoulders low, lifting the fourth brigand that attack him and tossing the brigand behind him.

Ragnell easily pierced through the breastplate of the fifth Brigand, casting him to the ground in a forceful thrust and then a sift kick thereafter. The sword raised to his face as Vincent quietly whispered and soon flames began to lick the sword's blade. The flaming blade raised to block the blade of another sword to his right as he took a light jump backwards and allowed the blow to pass in front of him.
"Humph, men, support our commander." resounded a voice. Tirian rushed headlong into the combat, withdrawing his shortsword. Rohan would have to buy a new sword for Tirian later. The apprentice blocked several glancing blows with his shortsword before lashing out and delivering a menacing cut along the shoulder of the victim. The intensity could be seen within the boy's eyes. Wallace was a bit more of a problem, being an old warriors, perhaps too old for combat. Wallace lived for battle, so letting him go would be like killing him.

Nasae made quick work of her bandit with a bit of her Rune Sorcery, calling upon the Thunder Rune tattoos to her forehead in order to send a bolt o lightning into her Bandit. The brigand was easily fried by the bolt and Nasae rejoined with Rohan moments later, who ran a hand through her crimson hair. They had a sort of thin going on, though it wasn't series. Brushing the thought aside, Rohan smirked. "The truth is, you're dead. Vasra Brigandiem!"

The Vinra spell exuded from Rohan's outstretched hand and pierced the very soul of the Brigand. By the time that a large chunk of Etheric energy formed in his hand, the Brigand knew he was dead, and soon the blast had cut through the Brigand. The brigand fell to the ground, dead, as Rohan raised Vanity from her position on his bakc to block the cleaver of the Brigand Leader.

Synopsis: Vishtaspa and Sinohpa were born as twin brothers, with sinohpa as the younger. Although Vishtaspa would have inherited the Vinran throne by right, his brother schemed to undermine him, and eventually drove him out of the imperial court altogether. Vishtaspa was not a violent or aggressive person, and said he would have ceded the throne to Sinohpa, had he good conscience. However, seeing that he lacked this quality, Vishtaspa could not hand over power to his brother so easily.

A number of soldiers, ministers, and other individuals would join Vishtaspa over time, allowing him to cement his authority at the Temple. The next sixty years were spent in brief skirmishes and retreats, trying to find a way to undermine his brother' power. Eventually, Vishtaspa had a dream where he was granted the Sage Rune as the First Bearer, and when he woke up, the rune was emblazoned upon his forehead.

Armed with his new power, Vishtaspa had sufficient ability to challenge his brother, whose machinations had sunken Vinra society into a dark age. Vishtaspa lead an army into the palace where he inclined a magic duel and defeated his brother Sinohpa. When asked to become the new Emperor, Vishtaspa decline and instead became the new Nature Lord, somewhat part game warden part environmentalist.
