Welcome to Gaia! ::

Here's a couple of avatar sketches. Please tell me EVERY LITTLE NITPICKY THING you see wrong. I will take them all into account as I'm truely trying to improve as an artist and not looking for ego stroking.

I'm looking for actual helpful critique from other artists. I'm not interested in hearing that the pictures are good from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Here are the weaknesses I'm looking to improve:
Pose
Gesture
Hands
Anatomy (Proportion)
Perspective

I thank everyone who took the time to look at my stuff and help out in advance.

Please do not include the image in your quotes. The Fig # is enough. Thank you.

The first one looks pretty good, and I can't really see much in the way of flaws with it, except my expression is a bit odd. I think it's the lips. Other than that it's lovely. On the second one there's the same stuff going on, and how the hands connect to the arm is a a little peculiar. My left hand especially bothers me. On the third, lemmee see. I'm not exactly sure what the problem with the arm is. Maybe the fact that her hand is small compared to his face? Hum... In the pencil sketch her profile is a bit odd, and again, the interaction with her arm, but that's all I can really see. Anyhow, I hope that helped. Honestly, though, I don't really know what I'm doing, but hey, a boy can try to give useful critique.
Just about everything the others said in the other forum and this forum was what I was about to say XDXD. So, all I have to say to you is.....Keep drawing (you're pretty good) and try to improve the faults you mentioned urself.
I really like the second one best^^ The pose looks most natural of all. The arm on the forward one is a little short or the hand small. But I feel the expression from the second one more, it feels more relaxed in the anatomy(looks more human in shaping). But I can't wait to see the third one with more coloring.. !! COOL. I'm not sure what to suggest on the arm or hand.. -.-; All i can say is to get someone to pose her pose so you can see what to do.. it might help.. Keep up the good work!!! Keep updating too ^^

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I appreciate it.

I try to fix the flaws I can see myself, but even the changes are wrong. Fig. 3 illustrates that perfectly. The original and the progression are different as I adjusted the arm, but I think the adjustment is even worse.

I wish I had a model. I'm pretty sure that would help. As for anatomy, I'd love to take classes, but I'm broke.

Personally, the second is my least favorite of the lot. It just seems to stiff to me. The life of the first one isn't there. Oh well.

I'm working on Fig 3 now. Hopefully I'll have an update before tomorrow.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my work.

*sigh* It's pretty obvious I have to work on hands... a LOT. I'll try and see what I can do to fix that.

LOL actually I thought the opposite. The first was stiff and the second more relaxed. But I'm talking more about the actual lines of the arms and body rather than how creative the poses are ^^ Anyways don't be so down on yourself, let it flow!!! heart

ps. you don't need the anatomy classes, just a friend who might help or some pictures or something. I've gone to the library and gotten magazines to help out just for a hint on anatomy. I've also looked in the mirror. It's just to get a general idea, you don't need to copy the person from finger tip to toe. Just think very very general, so it still stays true to your vision. Keep up the good work ^^ have confidence in your work!

In sense of pose, Fig 2 was planned, so the characters interact better. The second (background) figure in Fig 1 was added as an afterthought. The foreground figure (Fig 1) breathes while both figures in Fig 2 are just there to me.
I'm hoping to overcome both of those problems in Fig 3. It was planned, so the pose interacts, but at the same time, there are issues with the pose. Like the chic's arm and hand. I want her to be touching him as well, but it's just now working out. I see a good composition as a problem solving exercise, and I like problem solving.

I'm confident that my art skill have improved in the past year. I'd just like to get better.

I'm looking into getting a full body mirror. That may help with poses and such.
Fig 3's progress has been updated.
