Current Events- Myracuulous is HAVING HER BRAINS EATEN by university. She also realizes that she can't run a shop to save her life.

Over the christmas break, Myracuulous will be holding a big contest and finding other people to run her shop for her, so Speed and Scales shall return from its unfortunate hiatus.

Basic Custom: 30K
- You choose colours (base + 1 or 2 pattern colours) and the pattern (within reason)
- You also control gender and stats, though your stats must all be real dice (d4, d6, d8 or d10) and add up to 18 total (all d6s, d8/d6/d4 or d10/d4/d4, your choice of which dice where.)
- I have the right to turn down a custom order if I suddenly become too busy, or if the custom request is too difficult to carry out. If I cancel, all gold will be refunded, of course.

Advanced Custom: Very big bribes only
- Lineart edits, complicated patterns, extra stats, etc.
- These aren't really open yet, so if you want one you'd best really want one. There aren't many items that can tempt me (with the possible exception of an Angelic Pendant or a few really old letters for my hoard.)

Almost 300 years ago, mage explorers stumbled upon this huge island, over 150,000 square kilometers of land surrounded by clear blue sea on an undiscovered planet. They named it Nexis, after discovering that it has several unique properties.
User Image
First, it possessed an unusual magical field, which makes teleportation devices and spells work exceedingly well. Even across dimensions, transportation spells could be worked by the least competent apprentice mages to get to Nexis, or to get back to their homes from the island.

The same magical field negates almost all other forms of magic, especially large dangerous ones. A powerful mage capable of destroying cities in a single burst of flame would have trouble lighting up a small fire in Nexis. Even destructive technology is dampened, as people later discovered when the techno-savvy immigrants had trouble working their plasma rifles.

And finally, the island was home to an unusual species of dragon. About three feet tall, these creatures were highly intelligent and quickly picked up the explorers' language.
User Image
They explained that their species had once been a very violent one, often killing one another over petty disputes. But over the centuries they had evolved to compete through a different kind of contest, tests of speed. These dragons loved to race, and would challenge each-other to one at even the slightest provocation.

These three major qualities made the island perfectly suited to one thing- tourism. The island was easy to get to, safe, and had great potential for a huge racing industry. A capital city, creatively named Nexis City, was set up, and formal racetracks created. The dragons really didn't seem to mind being "owned" by racing coaches, as long as they were well cared for, sheltered, and got to race frequently. Most seemed to consider it a step up from having to hunt for their own food, as it gave them more time to hone their speed for the racetrack.

Now, almost three centuries later, the island is a popular attraction for people across the multiverse. Beings of all sorts come to the island to relax in the peaceful environment, watch some dragon races, and spend money. Some, enthralled by the island's sport, choose to stay and raise dragons of their own, hoping to climb their way up the tournament ladder and become racing celebrities in their own right, with thousands of fans cheering them on from the sidelines.

Though many will fail, some talented and lucky trainers will rise to the top. And in Nexis City, anything is possible.

The Dragons
User Image
Nexis dragons come up to a bit over waist-length on the average human. They have roughly human intelligence, but are very reliant on instinct. Most don't really understand a lot of human concepts, like money and politics and dating, largely due to lack of interest in learning. Though the racing system requires dragons to have human "owners", dragons tend to look at humans as anywhere from good friends to helpful servants that cater to their every whim. Dragons come in every colour imaginable, and minor mutations are not rare.
User Image
Despite their high intelligence, Nexis dragons grow very quickly. Eggs can take up to three months to hatch, but they are usually put on the market when they're going to be ready in 1-2 weeks, so new owners won't have to wait long to see their new dragon.
User Image
Like most reptiles, they are almost completely independent from the time they hatch, and need the care of a parent or human only to learn the nuances of racing and speech. Hatchlings communicate in squawks and gurgles and baby-talk. They sometimes try and race even at this stage, but aren't very good at it yet. In as little as a week, a hatchling will be physically mature and able to speak and run competently.

Mature dragons have fully developed their natural racing skills, and can enter any competition they are eligible for. There are rumors about unusual mature dragons, with regional variations on appearance and special extra abilities. But so far, these are just rumors.

Nexis Island

On this map of Nexis, the major settlements are marked with small stars.

For some reason, the island seems to support all sorts of different ecological systems. In the north, closest to the planet's equator, is a vast, barren desert. Its only city lies within a large oasis that can be found only by expert guides and trackers.
Beyond that is a mountain rage, some tall enough to be peaked in snow despite the warm temperature at their bases. Hidden high in the craggy mountain pass is a small village that seems to be rather oriental in its customs and appearance.

A little further south is a rainforest, teeming with life, which also houses the island's longest river. A city built into the trees exists along the river, but its people are known to be somewhat hostile towards strangers.
User Image
Beyond the rainforest, now in a more temperate climate, are the grasslands. Many small tribes roam them freely, but the city is quite distinct from them. All the more technologically inclined immigrants to Nexis gathered here, and formed a towering futuristic metropolis that, fortunately, exists in harmony with its natural surroundings.

Furthest north is a temperate forest, with the island's second major river. It houses a far more magic-based society, and its largest city has a huge castle at its centre.

If one continues along the coastline, one finds a large bay, surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches and craggy rocks. Those who roam the seas, usually for less-than-legal reasons, have made a sort of makeshift city amongst the caves, and one can find all manner of ill-bred folk around the bay.

And, right in the centre of it all, lies Nexis City, the hub of the island. Everyone is welcome in Nexis, and its architecture ranges from small castles to spaceports to everything in between. There's a racetrack every two blocks, and dragons are nearly as common a sight as humans while walking down the street.

Nexis dragons LOVE to race! You can compete with other players by racing your dragons in our guild. Races are decided through rolling dice, and the battle system is designed so that every dragon, no matter how much of an underdog they are, always has a chance to win. Even a hatchling with poor stats could end up beating a well-seasoned champion, if they get lucky. In the Nexis arenas, anything can happen!

You can find out more about dragon racing in our guild, here.

You can also RP casually in this thread, just try and follow the guild's roleplaying rules here too.

Scales

Rare magical dragon scales are sometimes found in Nexis. They are some of the most potent magic that still works in the island's strange magical field, and are the only thing that can permanently change a dragon's stats.

A dragon can use three silver scales, one gold scale, and one diamond scale, giving them
a total possible die level boost of +5.

Why are they so expensive? Because most scales are intended to be won in tournaments, not purchased.

User Image
When a dragon is given one of these uncommon silver scales, one of their stats will increase by one die level (from a D4 to a D6, or a D6 to a D8, or a D8 to a D10, or a D10 to a D12)

Each dragon may use up to three silver scales in their lifetime, so choose which stats to boost wisely.

Cost: 5,000 gold (Can also be won for free at local tournaments)

User Image
When a dragon is given one of these rare gold scales, one of their stats will increase by one die level.

Each dragon may use one gold scale in their lifetime. This does not count towards their three silver scales.

Cost: 10,000 gold (Can also be won for free at regional tournaments)

User Image
When a dragon is given one of these ultra rare diamond scales, one of their stats will increase by one die level.

Each dragon may use one diamond scale in their lifetime. This does not count towards their three silver scales or their one gold scale.

Cost: 15,000 gold (Can also be won for free at national tournaments)

Heartstones

These rare artifacts, one of the most powerful forms of magic in Nexis, will unlock the power of your dragon's heart, courage and determination to win, giving them special abilities and powers when they're losing a race.
