The Comprehensive British Thread
Recently there have been a load of threads asking questions about Britain, discussing British issues, etc. Now, I for one love talking about such things, being a Brit myself, but I really don't want to have to follow the talk in so many of these threads.
Therefore, I am creating this thread in the hope that many of the others can be merged into one single easy-to-follow and organised thread, in which British slang, politics, weather, geography, laws, etc, can all be thoroughly discussed. 3nodding
-Questions about England, or any other parts of the British Isles? For now, ask the people listed below, but know that I'm still scouting around for more people who want to answer them too. (If you want to, then please let me know! Especially looking for Scottish and Irish people. ^^ NB: Specialists on England will now only be added to the list by my invitation, as we are proportionally very much in the majority now - however, answer questions on England well, and you'll have no problem getting an invite! Similarly, if you don't post on here for a long time (think months), and don't respond to any PMs about it, then you'll be taken off the list. ^^ )

-Heard an obscure British word, and have no idea what it means?
This site is one of the best guides on the 'net to English and Scottish vernacular, and if you suspect it's something specifically Cockney (a certain type of London dialect - the one that Hollywood actors tend to fail at hilariously) then I hear this is a kickarse site to go to. And this one one too. If you're still lost, ask here and I'll give it a go. smile
-Want to know what's currently in the news and on the minds of the British public? BBC News is the website of our leading broadcasting corporation, and is updated every minute or so. You can also find maps and weather forecasts in case you're planning a jaunt over here.
-Highly recommended by Zahir is The Chap Magazine, which was a great inspiration in the founding of his Jolly Nice Manifesto and asks for a return to traditional British values.
-An amusing site about "pikeys" (aka "rudeboys", "townies", "scallies", and "chavs", although the definitions differ slightly in application depending on location), probably the most despised subculture/social group in Britain and (as far as I know) our equivalent to "wiggers", can be found here.
-If you live in Britain yourself, then RaiRai, Stem and Vamp X are organising a UK Gaia Meet in London.
If you have any more useful links to add to this, let me know - I'll be adding more ASAP anyway - but in the meantime, let's get the Brit-talk over here.
