Welcome to Gaia! ::

User Image

Welcome to Divinity, an organization seemingly dedicated to fulfilling the desires of certain purely magical beings known as Sylphs. Now blessed with human bodies and sensations they never could have imagined, the Sylphs must now assimilate into our world of Gaia. This is, of course, not without extensive help from their guardians, chosen by Divinity to lead them toward some higher purpose.

But what is that purpose?

  • Read the rules. Please read the whole front page before asking a question.
  • Do not steal the artwork or the graphics. Our artists have worked really hard to create quality artwork, so please don't be an art thief.
  • Be respectful to everyone in the thread. If you have an issue with someone, please take it away from the thread.
  • Do not PM the mule, Aletea, Remiyah, or any of our artists with questions about availability. This also includes begging or whining for a free Sylph. If you wait long enough, a contest or sale is sure to come around. Feel free to hang around and talk with us though!
  • No refunds.
  • Rules can be added or removed at any time. Just keep checking in here to make sure, but we will most likely make an announcement if a rule is changed.
  • Follow the Gaia ToS. This should be self-explanatory.

[ S A L E S ]

  • No whining or begging. This goes along with the general rule.
  • Please good sportsmanship and don't try to discourage or intimidate others. Everyone has the right to enter, so please don't try to 'scare off' your competition.
  • Your entries must be your own work. This is supposed to be a test of your skills...not your friend's, not your mother's, and definitely not the writing capability of your sister's-cousin's-boyfriend's-mother's-great aunt's dog. However, having someone proofread your entry is perfectly fine.
  • If you cannot make the standard payment of 15k at the end of a sale, fear not! We are totally open to payment plans, so just let us know if/when you win a flatsale or concept contest and we'll work something out.
  • Please pay within 48 hours of the end of a sale. If you'll be gone during that time, just let us know beforehand.

[ R O L E P L A Y ]

  • Please try to be active. After two months, you will be PMed a warning. If you have been inactive for three months, you will receive one last warning. If one week passes after the final warning without activity, then your Sylph will be put up for adoption.
  • No god modding. No one is invincible, so don't pretend your Sylph is either. Everyone has flaws.
  • Please let us know if you're going on hiatus. If you tell us beforehand that you will be absent for a while, then we will not re-home your Soul. Just let us know and we'll make accommodations.

[ Sylphs ]

Imagine the idea of other-worldy beings watching over us were true. Imagine they did exist, and could help us come to peace with ourselves. But also imagine that they were completely insubstantial—beings of complete magic with no senses except limited sight and hearing. What would happen if some of them longed to become human?

That's when Divinity came. The organization remained strangely unaffected by the Sylphs powers, but could also see them when no one else could. And within a short amount of time, the first deal was struck. What the deal was, only Divinity knows. Even the Sylph forgot the terms short after the agreement was made...

However, the results of the deal were quite apparent. To be born as a mortal, the Sylph became a child with no memories. At this point, Divinity finds proper guardians for these special children, the only requirement for said guardians being that they must live on the compound.

As the children grow older, strange things begin to happen...is it possible that they harbor special abilities from when they were purely magic? Are they even really human, or is something else afoot?

Who are the people at Divinity? Why are they doing this? There seems to be something darker going on behind the scenes, and it may be that they aren't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts...

[ Divinity ]

Sometimes in order to escape punishment and pain beyond your wildest imagination, you have to cross into another dimensional plane. At least, that was Divinity's solution to the problem...

Before the exodus, an organization known as Divinity experimented with the limits of magic across realms. Their initial forays into Gaia consisted mostly of extensions of their magic, as well as sending down various lower-ranked officials to study the land. For many years their expeditions proved successful, revealing an abundance of magical potential on Gaia. However, Divinity eventually became enemies with their governing council.

Why? Simple. Divinity desired power, which it could easily harvest from Gaia. Treason also littered their list of offenses against the Council, as the organization planned to eventually take control of their own realm.

Facing capture and punishment, the people of Divinity exiled themselves to Gaia. However, once they rallied enough magical power to cross the border between the realms, they quickly realized that they did not have enough to make it back, even if they wanted to. It may take a large amount of force to poke a hole through leather, but even more is needed to push the needle back through the other side. In the same way, an even larger amount of magic would be needed to cross back over into the previous realm. But then again, why would they ever want to?

Once Divinity landed in Gaia, another glaring obstacle faced them: they could not maintain their physical forms. Therefore, every Divinity member who wished to remain alive had to search out a new form.

Divinity now exists as a compound where the exiles reside, though they all appear to be normal Gaians. Some Gaians entered into contracts with Divinity, trading their bodies for a certain period of time, for magical access. The Gaian sleeps inside their body as the Divinity member controls it, and they do not age. Once released from the contract, the Gaian will have greater access to the flows and ley lines of magic. In time, Divinity will have to find new hosts. In the meantime, they have begun to study the beings known as Sylphs.

However, something strange has begun to occur. Nobody can tell why they are turning the Sylphs human—or even where the Sylphs came from, for that matter. And why are they having them complete odd tasks...?

Picture--->Child--->Pre-Teen--->Teen--->Young Adult--->Adult--->???

[ Picture ]
The guardian will receive an object, after they've been cleared by Divinity. The object will seem fairly normal, but it must be kept safe! Eventually, it will begin to change, and then, be born...

[ Child ]
Appears to be 6-10 years old.

At this point, they do not remember anything. Already, they have personalities - holdovers from their existance as Sylphs. They appear mostly human, but some may seem more or less so. From this stage on, they will receive various little quests...and oddly enough, not much explanation is given for them.

[ Pre-Teen ]
Appears to be 11-13 years old.

Ah, puberty! The Sylphs are beginning to grow, and entering into that oh-so-lovely stage that parents love so much. At this stage, they seem to be gaining some abilities. They aren't very strong, but they're there. And they seem to be helping along with some of those little quests. And if they don't do the quests, Divinity seems to be very irritable with them...

[ Teen ]
Appears to be 14-18 years old.

At this point, they look pretty much the same as before (except older). Being that strange-looking people are mostly normal in Gaia, the stranger looking ones may not even attract much attention. Their abilities are stronger, now; but the quests have grown odder and odder - some of them becoming dangerous.

[ Young Adult ]
Appears to be 18-23 years old.

This is the age when most young people are entering into college, or beginning their adult lives. This is also a stage where the Sylph has some very important choices he or she must face, and for most part schooling is the least of their worries. That contract the Sylph signed with Divinity before birth must be making many Sylphs very curious by this point...

[ Adult ]
Appears to be 24+ years old.

The Sylph has become an adult! Finally settling down a bit (some of them, anyway), and beginning to work. Except, Divinity is very insistant that everyone work for them: part of that 'contract' they signed before they were born. Except that some Sylphs may not want to work there...but hey - who knows what will happen.

This is the final stage...or is it?

[ Sylphs 101 ]

As beings of pure magic and few senses, most Sylphs are completely overwhelmed once they gain their human bodies. Not that they remember their time with grayscale eyesight or muffled hearing at all. The only connection a Sylph has to its previous form is a desire. A desire for a sense. Sylphs longed to become human. To feel. To smell. To taste. To see in color. To hear clearly. Each Sylph longs for something specific. One may want to smell the scent of pine, while another may want to experience the feel of velvet. Depending on what this sense is, the Sylph will develop differently, focusing strongly on that one sense. Hence, every Sylph is categorized by sense. They are as follows:

User ImageSight: Sylphs who long for a sense of sight will obviously grow to have great vision. They can see long distances. Their night vision is superb, and many can view minute details where many others might need a magnifying glass.

User ImageHearing: Sylphs who long for a sense of hearing will have a heightened auditory sense. Some can even hear dog whistles if they try hard enough. With this elevated sense of hearing, these Sylphs have great ears for intonation, whether it be in music or speech.

User ImageTaste: Sylphs who long for a sense of taste would probably make the worlds greatest culinary artists. These Sylphs' sense of taste is so strong, they can tell the ingredients of an object just by letting it sit on their tongue.

User ImageSmell: Sylphs who long for a sense of smell have some of the strongest olfactory bulbs around. Some even start to recognize people and objects by their smell. Since smell is closely linked to taste, some Sylphs may even be able to taste their food through this sense.

User ImageTouch: Sylphs who long for a sense of touch are more than sensitive. In the physical sense, of course. These Sylphs can detect even the slightest changes in things like temperature, wind direction, and pressure through their skin.

User Image???: What is this? An unknown sense? I see dead people! (just kidding!)

[ Limitations ]

To balance the Sylph's heightened sense of choice, another sense becomes extremely weakened. These limitations are not set by the heightened sense, but rather the desire the Sylph has before it gains its human form. For example, a Sylph who desires to experience the smell of the sea may have no need to touch the sea, and therefore would have a weakened sense of touch.

  • Sylphs with a weakened sense of sight will not be able to see very well. Most will need vision correction of some sort, and even then it won't help that much. They might as well be blind. Some may not even see in color.

  • Sylphs with a weakened sense of hearing will be all but deaf. This sense will be reduced to what it was when they were a Sylph: muffled, indistinct noises.

  • Sylphs with a weakened sense of touch will experience a numb sensation throughout most of their lives. They won't be able to feel very well. This can lead to problems, since they will most likely not be able to feel pain too well.

  • Sylphs with a weakened sense of taste is self-explanatory. Everything will taste bland to them. So while they'll never be able to enjoy the loveliness that is chocolate, you could probably feed them mud and they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

  • Sylphs with a weakened sense of smell have two problems. Not only will they not be able to smell, but once again, since smell is linked with taste, they will not be able to taste very well either. It will not be as severe as those with weakened taste buds, but these Sylphs probably won't complain if you feed them a chunk of old caviar soaked in Tabasco sauce.

[ Flatsales ]

These will typically run one-two weeks, and will be RP-prompt based. You'll be shown the picture stage, and make your choice from there. You can only enter for one. These contests will range anywhere from one to three Sylphs. It will most often be two at a time. Unless otherwise stated, the price of a Sylph is 15k.

Current Flatsales: Just finished one, so welcome our five first Sylphs!

[ Concept Contests ]

A contest where you create a semi-custom or custom Sylph. These will be rarer then flatsales and will cost the usual 15k price.

Current Concept Contests: None planned

[ Adoptions ]

If an owner is inactive for too long (check rules to read about that), then the Sylph will go up for adoption. As long as it's already been paid off, these contests will be free.

Current Adoptions: None, and let's keep it that way!

[ Customs ]

The base price is 250k. This would be a semi-custom : you decide the gender, sense and focus. For everything that you add, it's 10k extra. A 'full custom' would basically be where you take all the extra's. With just one addition, that would equal up to 300k.

If you choose to just go with a basic semi-custom, then the artist will basically do whatever they envision it as. It doesn't mean that you don't get a wild looking Sylph - it just means that it's up to the artist, like with flatsale Sylphs.

Please PM this to Divinity HQ, not the artists or shop owners

[ Breeding ]

We'll talk about this later when we get more Sylphs around the young adult stage.

[ The Compound ]

The compound takes up an entire block, in the middle of a large Gaian city. With the entire block walled off, there are only two available entrances. The front entrance consists of a small shop, where you can find Nikita and discuss Divinity. The back entrance lies on the opposite side, and appears to be where the trash gets picked up.

The compound is quite large. Past the shop exists an enormous courtyard and various buildings. Apartments for the guardians line the walls, and are where the guardians will be required to stay. At the moment only the west side is available for inhabiting. As for the other buildings, well...most of these are off limits. And locked.

A great deal of people live on the compound--all part of Divinity's operations. However, most of them seem to avoid contact with the Sylphs and their guardians.

Nikita
User Image

The shopkeeper, and the front of Divinity. He meets with prospective guardians, and also deals directly with the Sylphs. If the higher-ups have an assignment for the Sylphs, it typically goes through Nikita. He's a strange fellow, though...he appears to be in his early twenties, but at times the timid man acts much younger. He is also the man who has raised Sariael, one of the first two Sylphs.

Dmitriev

Another odd man, whom the guardians are likely to meet. Why? He's the one who raised Rodya, one of the first two Sylphs. Like Nikita, he works for Divinity...but unlike Nikita, he seems frightening at times. And why is the word 'Enforcer' often heard around him...?

Lord Lidon

The head of Divinity. The only people that ever see him are the higher ups. He's rarely discussed with Sylphs or Guardians.

Can I have a Sylph that desires a different sense for another Sylph's object (i.e. Having a Sylph that's the taste of sand while another is the touch of sand)?

This is fine, but we'll limit it to two senses per object. No need to have a Sylph for all five senses that can be applied to sand. Then where would the fun and diversity be?

How much do these cost?

15k unless otherwise stated.

Can we co-own?

Only in dire situations where an owner must go on an extended hiatus and has to bring in a second person to take over for that period of time. You may not enter a sale as co-owners, though.

Can I have more than one?

Sorry, but only one Sylph per person.

Will there be cosplays?

Sorry again, but no. How would that work anyway? It would be quite awkward to have a Sylph be focused around "the touch of a Keyblade" or "the sound of One Winged Angel."
