Here's my baby the day I brought him home for HQ. He's was so tiny and soft and just...wow. I can't believe he's here! I just wanted to hug him to bits...and I think he would have let me. He was so mellow...if only Ava was like him in that aspect.

User Image
This is a few days later after a few visits to HQ. The feather was from Aadil (ugh) and the star was from Hoshi. He actually opened his eyes...er...one eye...for the picture.

User Image
My little boy after he woke up from his nap. I swear he wore that confused/dazed expression for most of his toddler-hood. That hair was pretty hard to keep managed so I gave up after awhile. He had 24/7 bedhead.

User Image
Here's Yani with his favorite pet, Ayasha. He's gotten pretty lanky and thin...I hope he fills out at some point and gets past the frail look. He's pretty much a social butterfly at this point too. Too bad most of his friends are girls...That makes me nervous.

User Image
My little boy is growing up so fast. ;O; He looks so proud of himself...I know he was struggling really badly around when that picture was taken. Blindness will do that to you.

User Image
Here he is...uh...he was holding hands with Keir, but I managed to cut her out of the picture quite nicely, don't you think? Stupid girl...got herself pregnant and now my son is going to be a father. Great.

He has two large, highly mobile deer ears and a deer tail. Yani is usually seen in a pair of fringed brown pants with a loin cloth, wearing a pair of feathers clipped in his hair (the reddish one from Aadil and the paler multi-hued one from Airi) and is very rarely wearing a shirt or shoes. He has taken to wearing a hide vest of sorts with leather ties on the front when he goes out now since it protects his body from branches and whatnot when he rides in the woods. The red markings on his face are simply warpaint, not part of his actually pelt coloration.

She has grown to be so protective of Yanisin that the fa'e has grown to feel that her intentions are intolerable. She herself does not see a problem with this...and her actions are mostly in response to the deaths of her husband and of her stepson Sire.

User ImageAva Sielle Arrikanez is the daughter of JadeEye and the late Dragon Arrikanez. She is obsessived with white tiger things like her mother and often exhibits her mother's temper. She loves her brother Yanisin, but it's hard to tell if she understands that he is a person like she is or if he's just a big cuddly pet (Ava calls Yani a "kitty" a lot). She can go from being angelic in one moment to a demon in the next, but she is a real charmer when she wants to be and has Keir fooled already.

She's growing fast and has already exhibited shape-shifting magic that has resulted in a single grey wing that she can't get rid of because she doesn't yet grasp the concept of body shifting.

User ImageZero Dream is one of Yanisin's aunts. Yani is perplexed at her inorganic state of being, yet loves her anyway, despite her differences.

Zero definitively isn't from Gaia, but the alternate dimention of another world alltogether. She rarely speaks of that matter, and when she does, she keep her explaination to the bare minimum. She was the first of a kind of advanced cyborg, one as close to possible as an human being, down to the deepest of emotions. But she was perhaps too advanced for her time, as the rest of the world only saw the treat that a robot with a free will could start up, the project remaining secret for a long time, while her creator worked on more of her kind, and that she assisted him.

Soon there where alot of her kind, dubbed reploid. But one day something set off the unstable balance robot and humans had managed to create, a virus known as the maverick virus, that caused those infected to rebel and break the first rule of robotics : a robot should never hurt an human being. After her creator died, at the hand of his own researchers, Zero fleed this war she did not want an hand into, locking up as she noticed most of the humans of her dimention would much ratter kill her and help her, even trough she never showed any signs of being infected.

She traveled countless years, and eventually left her world and arrived to Gaia, trough she kept her habit of showing the less emotion possible to strangers. Even to friends, she, most often than not, remains calm, with simple smiles and reactions. Not that she doesn't care about them - she'll do anything for those she consider friends. It simpely seems that she somewhat forgot. Because of this, when she does show emotions, she is incredibely moody. She also seem to be opening up more and more as time passes, as if remembering how to do so, after years of keeping about everything inside. Being around Yani might help her alot more than anything else could have done so far, to maybe eventually make her resemble more the cheerful girl she was when her creator was alive... trough she'll never be the same.

User ImageShishi is Yanisin's other aunt, who has gifted him with a creature known as Ayasha, which Yanisin loves to death. He doesn't know much about his aunt and Jade prefers it that way.

At twenty three and five foot four, Shi is a chain-smoking, heavy drinking hot-air ballon pilot who is also a complete and utter failure at being any kind of tough. She is a generally well-meaning, sarcastic, and not overly bright girl who discreetly works by comission as a smuggler - and lately sometimes a downright thief - of historical artifacts, which has in the past taken her to many an exotic locale.
But with a busted balloon and no family to speak of (please.. don't speak of them) Shi has found herself broker than one might believe financially possible, and as a result, quite homeless. As with any small furry thing, she has an obsessive adoration for her "nephew", though sometimes she has a funny way of showing it.

Devmani is one of the fa'e that Yanisin has known practically forever. Yanisin met the centaur when the younger fa'e was just a baby and they hit it off almost immediately. Devi is one of Yani's few male friends. Both boys have gone their own ways and their friendship isn't as strong as it once was, but boys are sure to look out for one another at all times.

User Image
Keir is a fa'e that Yanisin has known since they were both very very young. The catgirl is the bane of Jade's existance at the moment and it's true that her slightly rough, punk, don't-give-a-s**t attitude has rubbed off on the deer fa'e in a way that Jade sees unfavorable. However, Yanisin and Keir are as close as ever, and, in fact, have become an "official" couple. Many see them as a Yin Yang sort of combination and it's true. Their contrasting traits only seem to make them a more appropriate couple and compliment each other's best traits.

User Image
Yanisin and Kia have known each other since Yani was reborn. She was the first to babysit him and from there, a great friendship grew. She was affectionately called one of his "Favorites". Their friendship has dwindled somewhat; Kia is busy with her family while Yanisin has his ownlife to deal with. However, the deer fa'e always regards the Egyptian fa'e fondly.

User Image
Nyoka is another one of Yanisin's "Favorites". She too has known the deer fa'e since he was just a baby and finds her to have been one of the most important people in his childhood. She loved to watch after him at HQ and to chatter about random things. Nyoka has not been in Yanisin's life much as of late and every now and then, Yanisin wonders if things will ever be like they were when he was just a toddler.

User Image
Raeith was the final component of Yanisin's "Favorites" and for good reason. Both she and the deer fa'e have so much in common, which helped Rae teach Yanisin a great deal when he was only a child. She is very much an older sister figure to him, but she too has turned away from Yanisin to pursue her life. However, she still stops by unexpectedly and it hardly seems as time ever passed.

User Image
Riven is a fa'e that Yanisin doesn't know as deeply as his other friends, but he still holds an immense respect for the older fa'e. To Yanisin, Riven can be a very calming presense. He's not sure entirely why, however. He does remember that Riven was there when he was found in the woods, and perhaps a feeling of loyalty sprung from that.

User Image
Sire was Yanisin's step-brother, brought into the family by Jade's marriage to his Guardian, Dragon. However, Dragon passed away due to hidden heart complications and Sire, feeling he had no other options, took his life so he could join his father in death. Yanisin feels betrayed by Sire, feeling that he wasn't good enough for Sire to come and talk to, but he also feels guilty for not pursuing a search for the deceased teen when he went missing. A lot of confusion has sprung forth in Yani due to Sire's actions.

Once Keir had become a teen, both Yanisin and Keir became a couple (with a little help from Silver, much to Yanisin's embarrassment). They had been friends for as long as Yani could remember and some say that they saw this coming back when they were kids. Be it fate or otherwise, they soon admitted their feelings for one another and have been inseperable since.
User Image
For a long time, Yani fought to keep the relationship from his mother, who he knew would take it badly but Jade came home and caught them together in mid-kiss on the couch one night. Jade was not pleased about their relationship, being the overprotective Guardian she is, and was/is currently NOT on good terms with the catgirl due to a fight that resulted in Keir punching Jade in the face and rocky standing with her son due to Yanisin pushing her into a wall.

Both Yanisin and Keir are making plans to leave their current homes, feeling oppressed by their respective Guardian, and move in together once they find a place.

Kachina is Yanisin's favorite pet, hands down. He takes her almost everywhere and relies heavily on her to get around in day to day life when he's outside or going somewhere. She's usually even tempered, though she can be a little snappy too. It seems to depend on Yanisin's mood.

User Image
Ayasha isn't really a pet, per say...more like a constant companion/friend. XD She was given to Yani by his Aunt Shishi. Aya is only a kid and is easily confused and frightened despite her best attempts to seem fierce but when she's with Yani, she's surprisingly at ease. She is now the size of a cocker spaniel and the bane of Jade's existance. XD Ayasha is an odd mix of horse, cat, and now what appears to be deer (she's getting antlers just behind her ears!)

User ImageUser Image
Double trouble is the best way to describe these too. For a long time, Tybalt was the only kiri in the house, but when Raeith and Mouse found a little albino kiri in the hoards at their house, they decided he was just perfect for Yanisin. Ty is more "daring" than Ben, but Ben is generally the smarter of the two.

Quote:
Background Story

Before white man began to settle the Western portion of the United States, deer were very plentiful in massive herds that sprawled over huge amounts of terrain. One such herd had an albino red deer born into it. The rarity of such an animal was immeasurable, being that his white coat made him an easy target for predators. However, despite this danger from his own animal brethren, Native American tribes refused to hunt this animal because they saw him as a holy spirit and an unfair target for hunting because of how badly he stood out against the trees and bushes. Only on very rare occasions could an albino deer be killed and even then the hunter would have to show great remorse for his action or suffer the loss of his hunting abilities. It was even said that if the hunter did not show appropriate remorse for the kill, he would die in a freak accident on his next hunt. Needless to say, white deer were very rarely brought back to the tribe. The lore of albino animal spirits passed on and observed throughout the generations of the tribe as the deer aged.

Unfortunately, as young boys become of age, they're often sent on their own hunt. One of these boys, named Skah, came upon the white deer one morning and purposefully shot an arrow at him in an attempt to kill him, thinking the trophy of white deer hide would be most spectacular due to it‘s rarity. The youngster, on an adrenaline high from his hunt, forgot the teachings of the tribe shaman in that brief moment. The arrow struck the deer in the chest and the creature fell heavily to the earth, crying in pain. Realizing his error, Skah ran to the deer and tried to remove the arrow and do anything at all to save the animal's life. Despite his efforts, the deer died and Skah met a most untimely death due to the deer's thrashing hooves and antlers.

The pair were found the next morning by a pair of elder hunters, the boy's body intertwined with that of the deer. Both were brought back to the village and the tribe shaman prepared to perform a ritual for both to free their spirits, since violent deaths trapped the spirit inside the bodies due to the fact that the spirits were not "prepared" to leave. It was felt that due to the circumstances of their death that boy and deer were now of one spirit and so once the "soul-releasing" had taken place, the pair would be referred to by one name and be forever bound together. This name was Yanisin, which means Ashamed. The name Yanisin was chosen because the boy so easily forgot his teachings and thought about greed instead of the ways of nature, which was a blemish on not only his legacy but his parents.

The death of the white deer was a mark of shame towards the village as a whole for which they could be punished for later by the gods. It was decided that the spirits of these two would not be released to the gods but to be held to the earth by attaching the spirits to a totem. The ritual was completed and the souls tied to a totem made of a thong of leather, the feather of a red-tailed hawk, and four completely white glass beads. It was said that if the totem was returned to the forest where the death occurred and left until dawn, the spirits would materialize and live once more, but in one body instead of two.

This totem and the story passed through generations until present time, remaining within a 20 mile radius where the deaths occurred. I, being very interested in Native American culture and lore, met the current holder of the totem at a pow-wow in my small town that those of Native American descent would have in the summer to celebrate their heritage. Having no use for the totem and even somewhat doubtful of the tale behind it, the man gave it to me. I returned home with the artifact and memory of the lore.

Several weeks later during the night when I was asleep, I had a dream about the totem.

In my dream the old man retold me the story and told me the rumored location of where the totem should be placed. Deciding to see just how true this legend was, I got into her car and drove about 10 miles out of town, then parked the car and walked into a heavily forested area that I had only briefly hiked through as a younger child with my parents. The exact location would be impossible to find, but the lore said that if the totem was returned to the forest, it's magic would still work. It was a few hours before dawn before I felt comfortable with stopping my hike. Finding a tree with branches that were low enough to get at, I tied the thong part of the totem to a branch and sat down on the ground, using the tree as a back support while I waited. Despite my best effort, I soon fell asleep, lulled by the sound of the gentle whisper of the wind through the trees. As dawn approached, the feather totem began to have an odd glow about it and began to give off a smoke-like material. This smoke went towards the ground instead of with the wind and seemed to curl and actually began to form something solid. This continued for almost an hour.

I was startled awake (in my dream..I was really still asleep) by a frightened yowl, sounding suspiciously like a child's cry and found that a huddled form of almost pure white was lying in the leaves just a few feet away from where I had fallen asleep. The form was most definitely a child, completely naked, yet most definitely not completely human. A very light fur covered most of the child except for the face and chest and two small bumps protruded from the top of his head, almost like the start of horns or antlers. Furthermore, the child's ears weren't entirely human-like nor his hands, which were tipped in a hoof-like material. To top it off, he also had a deer tail. I stared at the misshapen creature, finally realizing that the rebirth of the spirits encased in the feather resulted in this single child. Upon closer inspection, the child seemed to be bleeding from a wound on his chest yet appeared to have no pain whatsoever from it. Fearing that the child was really injured and having no other option, I picked up the child and began the hike back to the car, still stunned by the bundle in my arms.

I jolted awake at this point and found myself wondering if the dream was a sign of something to come.

(although born of two spirits, he only has one set personality. The traits of both spirits meshed together to form what he is now)

Physical Description

Yanisin, meaning ashamed in Native American, is an albino and is mostly human in form with deer antlers (as a toddler/child the horns would just be little bumps poking out of his hair) with human feet and human hands with the tips being made out of black hoof material instead of fingernails. POSSIBILITY: His antlers could actually shed, probably at his transition from kid to teen, then regrow for his adult stage (this would be a good opportunity for a funny RP XD). He has a deer tail and very deer-like ears as well as a build that is lithe and lean. His hair is ivory instead of the traditional Native American black/brown and his skin is extremely pale (albino white) with a slightly furry texture everywhere but his face and chest. On his chest directly over his heart is one blood red marking that appears to be a wound that an arrow would make (this mark is not really an injury). As a young fa’e, he would have a light modeling of tan/ivory spots over his body like a fawn, meaning they would fade away eventually, in addition to the permanant wound mark. His eyes are pinky-red and human.

Clothing wise, Yanisin wears traditional Native American garb such as moccasins, a loin cloth, and/or a small feather headdress. War paint could be wore for more color. As an older child with further developed antlers, it’s unlikely he’d wear shirts because they’d be difficult to put on unless they were zippered or buttoned (I think he’d prefer to go naked even if I didn’t object XD)

Personality

Yanisin takes more of his personality from his deer counterpart than from his human part. He's generally a very skittish character, especially in new situations or with people/fa'e he's never met before...so skittish that he'd probably gain the title of a coward by those who don't know him well. He's very quiet and usually won't speak up in a crowd unless spoken too, but when he does talk it's usually something that has real thought behind it and his tone of voice is usually very strong and level. He rarely loses control of his emotions and most times he may appear completely stoic which makes him difficult to read. Given the choice, Yanisin would rather be alone or with one or two close friends than in an area of high activity or loud noises. When alone, Yanisin enjoys dabbling in the art of Native American weapon construction and jewelry-making as well as taking hikes in unknown forest territory. His weapons are never used for hunting purposes, just as a hobby and a time waster (the very thought of killing anything makes him absolutely ill). He is fairly adventurous, despite his quiet nature.

His passion in life is animals and if you get him on the subject, it's probable he'll take a liking to you instantaneously and will even share stories about his adventures that he won't tell anyone else. Yanisin is very secretive about his past, however. One of the few memories he retained from his human spirit is the disgraceful behavior the night of the hunt and that is a touchy subject for him. He doesn't dwell on it, but when brought up it obviously bothers him a great deal. He is constantly plagued with "signs" of displeasure from the Native American gods over his release back into the mortal world and could probably be considered superstitious in that aspect. Sometimes he will hallucinate and go into an almost seizure state when he's being "punished" for his behavior in his past human life. This usually results in him trying to come up with some way to please them so they'll leave him alone again (whatever rituals that happen occur at night when no one is watching). None of this is anything he likes to share and will lie or twist the truth as not to draw attention to himself over his shame. He's not angsty at all, despite the punishments. He sees it as necessary and deserved for his acts in his previous life.

Special Talents

Yanisin has a very good sense of balance and grace as well as speed. The fa'e can easily keep up with and even outrun his deer brethren, which comes in handy when things get a little rough at HQ (*eyes Roth* >> ). Because he is part animal, he has the ability to mindspeak with any animals he's had exposure to and has special affection for any animal that comes his way (imagine the wild kiri army at his displosal). Using this ability he can easily round up help, find out information on events happening a long distance away, or even see out of the eyes of another animal that is miles away while he remaining at HQ. He also has the ability to cast illusions (mostly a defensive magic), such as camouflage for himself since he's so bright white or to project images of animals that aren't really there to intimidate potential foes. The only illusions he can conjure are things that are strictly nature-orientation and that he has seen (either through the eyes of his "animal friends" or himself), which does restrict him.

Additional Information

When Yanisin returns to the forest he was reborn in, the red spot on his chest will actually start to bleed like an open wound, but he won't die from this. When this happens, he'll have flashbacks on his previous life, both as a man and as a deer. The wound is a "portal" so to speak of to his past life. On the eve of his death, Yanisin will actually revert to full deer form and return to his old home to learn more about his past from the spirits of his families.

Why do you want a fa’e? And how is this fa’e special to you?

I've wanted a fa'e since they came out, just like a lot of people, and I absolutely love the atmosphere at the fa'e threads/diaries. I've never EVER seen a disagreement there and I love how everyone gets along with everyone (or if they don't, they are civil towards one another ^^; ) It's difficult to find a thread like that on gaia and especially in minishops/breedables. I love how each guardian has developed their fa'e and how unique each fa'e is (I loathe the traditional evil/angel and the four element theme unless well-developed...they're always overused). I find the diary idea to be a great way to help build on stories and to let other guardians in on possible plots without having to actually RP it out at the main thread. I've been at the thread(s) a lot the past few weeks and I'm starting to feel like I belong there too, so...I definately won't be leaving any time soon.

The fa'e is special to me because I really do have a fascination with Native American lore. There's a very high chance that I might have some Native American in me, but I'm not sure because my father was adopted. He wasn't told his ethnic background when he was younger so he is clueless about what his background heritage is...he does, however, have a strong Native American look to him and his brother does too. I've always been curious about it, so I enjoy reading about Native American culture because it seems so mystical and yet I could potentially have a percentage of Native American blood in me. I choose a deer because deer are very important for the Native American culture and figured it would be fitting. I spent a great deal of time on this and lately it's been the only thing I've talked about (probably to the irritation of a lot of my friends XD; ) and it even helped me get back into writing, which is something I've been avoiding for awhile because of writer's block. Even if he doesn't become a fa'e, I could easily see him as becoming a character in the future for other RPs outside of Gaia.

=================
This is just a little bit of information I found on a website of the actual lore of albino animals to help explain how I came up with the idea.

Most all every Native American tribe had some manner of "spirit" belief regarding albino animals. The Albino was protected by most Native American customs. Within the Northeastern Woodlands, Leni Lenape, Susquehannock, Iroquois (Six Nations) etc. One primary principle: The Albino was not to be hunted or killed. This taboo carried various curses.

According to Bear Two Arrows (Eastern Delaware), knowledgeable of owl medicine, the taboo and its various curses are known among more respectful contemporary hunters with or without Native American ancestry. If an albino deer were killed (and without remorse) the hunter might later loose his life in a freak accident often involving his hunting or survival skills. The symbolic significance behind white or the quality of "whiteness" was not associated with purity as in Western culture but also wisdom and ancient knowledge of greater conceptual and spiritual magnitude.

Depending on the animal species involved and how it corresponds within the greater tribal cosmological context sometimes manifests the extent of the consequences when the taboo is broken. Belief in the "spirit nature" of albino animals and the ritual taboo of protection probably has its roots in the fact that an albino's ability to survive natural predators is greatly reduced by the lack of proper pigmentation for camouflage and keener vision to spot prey. These natural attributes render an albino "unfair" game for the Native hunter, or any hunter aware of the spiritual nature these animals might possess. Even the skin or hides of these animals must be treated with reverence.

Following the customs of these legends regarding the hunting and trapping restrictions were not in as much out of fear for the taboo but more so with respect to the higher aspect of Nature and the Creator.
