Vocabulary from Guardians of Ga'hoole - A Dictionary
Racdrops! - Crap! - Meaning "Raccoon Droppings" and is used when annoyed, frustrated, etc.
Flint Mop - Like a detention; is a punishment used on owls.
Flecks - a type of small metal that makes someone's mind buzz and soon enough, shatters the owl's soul and gizzard
Shattered - If you are shattered, your eyes have a glassy look to them. Also, you are caught in a dream world, and are not sure of what is fake and what is real. Shattering is a form of hypnotism. It is caused by being right beside flecks so long that you no longer no what’s real and what’s not.
Gizzard - Like an owl's heart almost. Owls feel things in their gizzards sometimes.
Yarp - Throwing up a small pellet the shape of an owl’s gizzard, the pellets often contain bones and other things. Yarping is how owls dispose of waste.
Glaux - The owl god.
Glaumora - Owl heaven.
Hagsmire - Owl Hell.
Glaux in Glaumora! - An exclamation...some others are:
-Great Glaux!
-Oh my Glaux!
-Glaux-in-a-box!
It's basically like OMG, Oh my goodness, For the love of Heaven, etc.
Scroom - A ghost that didn't make it to Glaumora because they still have unfinished business on Earth.
Battle Claws - Made from metal, they sheath your talons and are very dangerous.
Fire Claws - Worse then battle claws, they have burning coals at the end of tehm and often damages the talons of those who wear them.
Hagsfiend - An owl that is totally evil...and comes from Hagsmire. Hagsfiends have half-hags living in their feathers and use fyngrot.
Half-Hags - Little creatures of nachtmagen that live in a hagsfiend's feathers.
Nachtmagen - Dark Magic.
Magen - Magic.
Fyngrot - A yellowish, greenish light that emanates from a hagsfiend's eyes and is of nachtmagen. Can turn others into hagsfiends too.
Vyrwolves - A wolf-version of a hagsfiends. Also have something like Fyngrot.
Clan - A group of wolves; a wolf pack.
Moon Blinking - The owls of St. Aggie's Academy for Orphaned Owls use this to make owls completely obedient. They make the owls walk in the moonlight and make them sleep in pits and make them sit up and face the moon. Also, they make them repeat their names over and over again until the name becomes meaningless.
Moon Blaze Chamber - This is a terrible place that not many owls can resist the moon. It is a huge pit where the moon shines right in; it is a punishment for unmoonblinked owls.
Broody - A female with eggs.
Brood - Group of eggs that one female has laid.
Nest Maid Snake - A snake that serves owls out of free will and believe that owls are the most noble of birds. They often take care of owl nests as well as work at the great tree. They are blind; have no eyeballs. But all their other senses are extremely increased.
Ryb - A teacher at the great tree; they teach chaws.
Chaws - Sort of like a class of students, or a group of people with a talent.
Slipgizzle - A spy.
Hireclaw - An owl that is paid and hired to work. They are usually pretty secretive, and are hired by the Pure Ones.
Turnfeather - Betrayer or a Traitor.
Krakish - A language used in the Northern Kingdoms.
Pilgrim Owl - An owl that lives away from other owls, alone. They help any wounded owls they see, and they are kind hearted and very smart.
Yeep - When an owl is so shocked, or so afraid, they fold their wings and fall to the ground. Owls that go yeep usually die.
Yoicks - Crazy.
You're frinking me off! - You are pissing me off! It's a term used when someone is annoying you or with something you hate.
Starsight - Able to see the future in a dream.
Firesight - Being able to see "things" in a fire. This is a psychic power, and is kind of like a premonition.
Spronk - Forbidden; it is a swear when combined with ‘sprink’.
Sprink - This is also another swear.
Sprink on your Spronk! - The worst combo of swears possible!
Glauxspeed - Godspeed; good luck!
Breaklight - The meal once the sun is about to rise, and the moon sets (before the owls go to bed)
Tweener - The meal once the sun sets and the night comes (when the owls wake up)
N'yrthgar - Northern Kingdoms in the time of the Legends
S'yrthgar - Southern Kingdoms in the time of the Legends
Owlipoppen - little dolls that parents often made from down and feathers for chicks to play with in the hollow
Fizgig - a flail; a pierced metal ball full of bonk coals attached to the end of a link chain
Gadfeather - An owl that usually "dresses" (weaves other feathers into their own feathers, dyes feathers, wears moss and leaves, etc.) and they usually are very good singers, too.
Kraals - An Owl Pirate; Rogue.
Frivling - flirting
Riffling - when an Spotted Owl ruffles of his or her feathers, making the spots "dance" and look very beautiful
Chawlets - young students
Hatchday - an owl's birthday; the day they hatched
Preenie Weenie - the worst thing a young owl can call another
Scuppers - side trenches of a gale or squall where the edges of the wind spilled over
Baggywrinkles - shredded air currents that lay just outside the scuppers
Windkin - a companion air current for another wind from an opposite quadrant
Botkin - a sort of container
Tumblebones - the rim of a hurricane's eye; if a bird was caught in one, it would spin around and around until it dies
Geegaws - strange trinkets that usually come from the Others; Trader Mags has lots of these.
The Others - Humans
Hurly-Burly - a dance that the weather-interpretation chaw owls do
Jouzho - means 'middle' in Jouzhen
Kyn - means 'kingdom' in Jouzhen
Jouzhen - the language of the Middle Kingdom owls
Jouzhenkyn - means 'middle kingdom' in Jouzhen
Kronkenbot - a formation used in storms to protect small owls
Gizzard-washed - the equivalent of the word 'brain-washed' in the English language
Hee naow - "hello" or "welcome" in Jouzhen (notice the resemblance to "Ni Hao" in Mandarin)
Strezhing - means "originating from" or "hailing from" in Jouzhen
Stresschen - means "originating from" or "hailing from" in Krakish
Pheng - means "honored" in Jouzhen
Gwuil - means "guest" in Jouzhen
Guanjho-Noh - means "the Sea of Vastness" in Jouzhen; known as the Unnamed Sea in the Southern Kingdoms
Jing Jangs - means "hail cusps" in Jouzhen
Slink Melf - the Pure Ones' expression for "Assassination Squad"
Phonqua - a Jouzhen word that is hard to explain to owls who are not Jouzhen; it has to do with consequences due to an owl's previous actions/will for power. They fail to realize that to pursue power for the sake of power is a transgression against all of nature, which means it's a violation of all Glaux has given. If someone pursues this course, they become victims of the power of Phonqua.
Zong Phong - the Jouzhen word for "the River of Wind"
Wingicap - when an owl has immense trouble flying, and not because of an injury
Hulong - the single Jouzhen word that means both "time" and "hollow"
H'ryth - means "innermost part of the gizzard" in Krakish
Wind Bong - means "last shriek of a mighty wind" in Jouzhen
Khyre of Glaux - means "the many faces of Glaux" in old Krakish
Owlery - a place high up in the mountains of Jouzhenkyn where owls live simply and retreat to contemplate deeply
Pikyu - means "guide" (and technically 'deep wisdom') in Jouzhen; pikyus are spiritual teachers
Zong Qui - means "the breath of the qui" in Jouzhen, and would expand an owl's lungs and when expelled, would thrust him through the air at a blinding speed
Danyar - the way of noble gentleness; some Jouzhen owls practice this (similar to human martial arts)
Zi Phan - a move in Danyar; "the talon like the spiked flower"
Danyk - a master, or teacher, of Danyar
Zi Kyan Mu - a Danyar battle move
Third Degree - performed with talons turned in, so as not to kill; describes battle moves
Ya Ni Ni - the single blue feather that stuck up from the otherwise featherless head of a pikyu
Coal Claw - the most dangerous type of battleclaw; in each tip, a bonk coal burns
Bisshen - Krakish for 'to speak'
Bonk - the strongest fires
Chaw-chop - to drop an owl from his or her chaw
Collier - carrier of coals
Creelies - the creeps, getting creeped out
Fire Blink - when an owl becomes mesmerized by the light of a fire and goes yeep
Fleckasia - the collective effects on the owl brain and gizzard because of flecks
Flint - to have value
Frisen - Krakish for 'friend'
Fryke - Krakish for 'freeze'
Ga - great spirit
Gallgrot - gall, mettle
Gazooling - the noisy chatter of owlets
Give it a blow - 'lighten up!'
Gizzlemia - blackness of the gizzard (a condition)
Gizzuition - like an 'intuition' but instead, is a feeling from the gizzard with no normal reasoning processes
Gleek - to goof off, like 'gleeking about'
Glowworm - a particular type of coal that has high density in heat
Gollymope - a depressed state
Goodlight - what owls say to each other before bed
Graymalkin - bad owl
Grot-Ghot - Krakish for 'Native'
Gunden - Krakish for 'good'
Hoolespyrrs - deceptive winds over the Sea of Hoolemere
Hordo - Krakish for 'snake'
Hordonphonk - Krakish for a supremely beautiful snake
Hukla Hukla - snake-speak for 'young owls will be young owls'
Issen - Krakish for 'ice'
Issen Blauen - Krakish for 'blue ice,' which is what goggles are made of
Issen Vintygg - Krakish for 'deep ice'
Kerplonken - Krakish for 'broken'
Lochinvyrr - a code of honor between the hunter and the hunted, between the predator and the prey
Mu - extremely soft metal that blocks magnetic fields
Nimsy Night - the festival held on the shortest night of the year
Nooties - nuts that grow on the Ga'hoole Tree during the time of the Copper-Rose Rain
Pyte - a unit of measurement about the length of the wingspan of an adult Whiskered Screech Owl
Scroomsaw - owl soul
Shred - to dart in and out of a fire; a colliering flight maneuver
Skog - Krakish for 'singer' or 'storyteller'
Smee Holes - natural steam vents in the earth found in the Northern Kingdoms
Thronkenspeer - a threat display
Trufynkken - Krakish for 'drunk'
Tween Time - dusk
Twixt Time - dawn
Williwaw - sudden violent wind
Yarpie Barpies - owl diarrhea
Galooshing – like trick or treating; owls wear masks of other owls or birds and go to each hollow singing or dancing for treats
Nincompoop - an insult; similar to 'preenie weenie' and other not-so-nice terms to call somebody
