Aloreina's Accounts and Anecdotes

Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.
-Cyril Connolly

Welcome to my little shop. The main purpose of this shop is to hopefully make a little extra gold by doing something I enjoy. I intend to start by posting a lot of the stories that I've already written. If this shop starts to get popular, I have a few other things I can post including a book I've been working on (by chapters, of course) and even do a few commissions if I think the idea is interesting.

What I'm Currently Offering

1. Short Stories - this is what I have the most of already. I'm an English Writing major, so I've written a couple dozen of these at this point, it seems. Many of these stories are interconnected, so you may read about the same characters in different situations repeatedly. Generally these have been pretty well recieved.

2. Books - Right now I have two novels in-progress. Silver Dragon is the one in which I have over 100 short chapters that I'm working on merging into a more reasonable format. I started this book when I was fourteen, so earlier chapters are pretty rough. I'm not currently selling any chapters from this book because I'm embarrassed of it. I also have a book called Charlotte and the Dnali Diamond, which is a children's book I wrote. It's targeted at kids 10-12, so the writing is very simple. It is in a rough format, but I can be convinced to give it up.

3. Fanfictions - I have a small collection of FanFics which were written in my "I heart InuYasha" phase. I haven't done any FanFics from other sources, but I'm sure that I could. Some that I'm very familiar with include, but of course, are not limited to: Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, InuYasha (obviously), Heroes, and pretty much anythign I've seen. If there's a particular book series or show that you would like to know, just ask me.

4. I don't do poetry. I have some poems, but they're not for sale, unless you want to pay a very large amount of money and then be sorely disappointed. If you do, so be it. I'll send you one. You were forewarned.

Fan Fictions

Love Is Not the Word
I wish that I could ask you why, but I already know. You do not believe in me. You cannot believe that I love you. Love? Perhaps that is too vague of a word to describe how I feel for you. Sango with the hair as black as a raven’s wing . . . Sango with the eyes so brown they’re burgundy . . . Sango with a cloak of sorrow eternally around you. Your strength astounds me. It is like iron, like stone. It is a force that completely obliterates those who go against you.

Unaffected
The jewel, nestled between her ivory breasts, it brought danger to them. She couldn’t just leave the village, but would they ever let him stay? Could he bear their scorn? They hated him. He’d seen it in their eyes, and their mouths whispered “monster” even as Kikyo defended him. Kikyo’s soft lips, so pale, pleaded his case, and they relented only because of her.

Original Fiction

Independent
Sit up straight, look at me. Chin up, keep that quarter between you knees, so you don’t get stuck with three kids you never wanted. Your sister said she saw you kissing that boy under the bleachers. Is this true? Don’t tell me you’re in love. It’s a joke. Do something useful with your life; don’t waste your time on them, those boys who only want one thing.

An Education
“But why’s it have to be Pittsburgh?” My mother was slapping huge globs of cherry pink icing on her crooked cupcakes. There was more icing on the counter than on the cupcakes.
“Because it’s a good school. I worked hard, got good grades, now I want to go to a good school.”
“No. It’s not gonna happen.”

Collection: Mother/Daughter
Genre: Fiction
Length: 651 words (Part 2 of 4)

Married
I can’t believe that she went all the way to Pittsburgh just to end up with that redneck she dated behind my back in high school. He’s not a bad boy, square and steady, blue eyed and broad shouldered, but he’s nothing special. He’s a farm boy without any future, and my little girl is going to marry him, regardless of what I say.
Collection: Mother/Daughter

exclaim NEW! Baby, Baby
Sometimes she didn’t think that Michael wanted anything to do with the baby. The first thing he said when he saw Claire for the first time was that she looked like a potato. A potato! How does a baby look like a potato? When she’d gotten angry with him and informed him that their child was not a potato, he’d rolled his eyes and said “Well, obviously.”

How to Purchase

Okay, so now you found one of my stories that just looks fabulous and you can't help but want to buy it. Here's how you do that!

Step 1: PM me or post here. If I don't respond, PM me again. Tell me what story you want and how you want to recieve it. I can Copy/Paste it into a PM, E-mail it to you, or transfer it through a messenger (AIM or MSN). After we work out the details, move on to Step 2.

Step 2: Offer a trade for whatever amount we agreed to, or I'll offer something small like a flower or something like that so that we get the trade in the works.

Step 3: I send you the story by whatever means we discussed. If for any reason, the method we chose doesn't work, PM me and we'll figure out another way for me to get it to you.

Step 4: Enjoy!

Step 5: Tell all your friends how great my story was so that they come get them from me, too.
A Note on Pricing

So, are you scratching your head and wondering where I come up with my prices from. Generally when you look for the prices on stories, they're presented as about 250 gold a page. I think this is cheating because a page that is mostly dialogue might only have 120 words on it while a page with heavy description will have up to 350 words a page. My average is about 300 words per page. Sometimes its higher, sometimes its lower.

To make sure that my pricing is as fair as possible, my stories are priced by word count. If you're unsure of how much story you're actuall getting, in general you can divide the word count by 300 and you'll have pretty close to the number of pages. For example, a story with 1500 words will have about 5 pages, and a story with 600 words will have around two. Normal short-story length (referring to the length that published stories usually are) is about 15 pages. Therefor, a story with 4500 words is a pretty long chunk of story.

So that you're paying only for the story and not for white space, I run a word count on my stories and price them from there. Usually it runs around 10 gold for 100 words. That seems pretty pricey, but when you break it down, it's generally around 30-40 gold per page.

Now this isn't always the way it works. Sometimes a story has had many more revisions or has been a great deal more work than others of the same length. Occasionally I push that price up a little since it cost me so much energy. For example, a story that (by words measurement) would cost 300 gold may have been through four rewrites and I feel is of a better quality. For that reason I might push the price up to 400 or 500.

As always, if you can make a good argument, I'll probably give in and lower the price for you. I'm not difficult, not really.

Also, if for any reason, I decide a story I have up here isn't good enough to be up here and move it (say to the workshop area) I'll take it off the "samples" list. If someone wants to buy it, I'll give you the link to the free workshop forum. It's not fair to make someone pay for something that other people are getting for free.

That being said, I hope this was enlightening and useful! 3nodding
