Welcome to the Theme Charity.

Theme of the Month: Head Items!!

I have quested multiple times, and have always found help in the many charities found on Gaia. And so, having finally completed my last ever quest (I hope), I have decided to set up my own charity for Gaians.

However this one is a little different from the others. You see, I could not figure out who needed help more. Newbies? People questing for commons? Those mad Gaians you see questing for the elusive halo? I think that all Gaians are deserving, no matter what it is that they are questing for.

And so we have the theme charity. And this strange rainbow colour scheme.

At the beginning of every month a new theme will be chosen. One month might be dedicated to people questing for purple items, another might be for people questing for anything with “Angelic” in the title of the item.

Numbers of applicants that will be accepted for each month will vary. If the theme is for anyone questing for a 03 donation item then we will only be accepting around 10 or so people, as then we can give more gold. On the other hand if the theme is for anything below 1k, we’ll be able to accept many more people. It all depends.

At the beginning of the month, the theme changes. At the end of month I send out the donations. You have the first week of the new month in which to accept the trade, otherwise I shall cancel it and the money will either be recycled for the new theme, or randomly donated to anyone in the Quests forum.

Sadly every charity has to have rules, otherwise chaos ensues and the charity owner gets upset and closes down and then everyone loses. You need to check back to these rules every month as they will change depending on the theme, and if you don’t read the rules then I will find out, because I am sneaky, and have eyes in the back of my head.

The Unchanging Rules!
1. Obey TOS.

2. No begging, either in the thread or sending PM's.

3. Please be civil, no arguing, no harassing people on here, no nasty comments.

4. You must accept a trade sent to you within a week of me sending it. If you are going to be away then please let me know.

5. You need to post 5 times before you submit your form. I don’t mind what your posts consist of, being it bumps or actual conversation, as long as you number them (Note: I don't care how many times you posted in the thread last month or last week, if the theme has changed so has your post count on the thread. Akibe and Airyn have lives outside of Gaia and the last thing they want to do is go over your posts to see when you last posted in the damn thread, capiche?)

6. Be literate!

7. You must be questing for an item related to the theme of the month. (The Theme of the Month is on the first post).

8. If you complete or give up on your quest before we send the donation you MUST inform us, if I find out myself then I will not be a happy bunny.

9. You can apply twice a year, BUT you can not apply 2 months in a row.

10. If you submit an application form and are missing 3 of the rules minimum, you will be automatically rejected.

11. We do not guarantee a donation of pure gold, we may donate an item and gold, or just an item, depending on the cost.

12. If you send begging PM's to Akibe or Airyn you will be blacklisted.

13. If you post adverts in the thread (excluding links in your signature) you will be blacklisted.

14. Post the form in the thread, DO NOT send it in a PM to the charity mule.

15. You MUST be currently questing for the item relating to the theme. You cannot apply for items that are on your "future quests" or "what I will try to get next" list.

The Monthly Changing Rules!
1. In the part of the form where it says “Toast?” please put sausages. (And even if you include this, I will still know if you have not read the rules).
2. You must have a quest thread that has 10 pages.
3. You need to have 400+ posts.

AkibeJosephus- Akibe is the mysterious owner of the charity, and can be found either bumping this thread, bumping other charities or quests, or spending time in the Life Issues forum. In real life she is British and spends her time drinking tea, eating scones and studying Ancient History. She likes translating Ancient Greek but finds it very difficult so rarely does so, and instead spends her work time reading for her courses and writing essays. In her spare time she plays around on the internet, supports QPR football club and annoys her boyfriend by forcing him to watch Top Gear. She met Airyn and Kagerou while she was questing for the Angelic Sash, and probably would not have finished if it had not been for them.

Airyn Rose- Airyn is a pre-veterinary student who relieves the stress of school by cruising around Gaia, usually bumping on this thread and occasionally looking through Life Issues. She has two cats, Indrid Cold and Flavius, who consume her life. She also constantly dotes on her girlfriend's cats, Linwe, Mazzy, and Isadora (and occasionally will dote on her girlfriend as well). Airyn enjoys going to movies and watching Lost and House MD, and reads Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett books constantly. She first met Akibe when questing with Kagerou and Sinasilver, and began bumping on Akibe's thread when the quest was complete. She has always wanted to be involved in a charity, and is glad to be able to help out Akibe.

August Competition

We have a new August Competition! To celebrate the charity being open for 6 months come September, our 1000 pages, and all the friends we made along the way heart

This competition, is OVER. Prizes will be sent out on Thursday when Airyn gets back!

Akibe and Airyn would like some creative stories about how the Charity came about. There is no minimum word limit, maximum number of words is around the 3k mark.

You can be as creative as you like ^_^ and you can put it in any form you like, story, script, poem, haiku, we like everything!

Prizes

1st place- 10k gold.

2nd Place- 6k gold.

3rd Place- 3k gold.

And depending on how many submissions we get there might be some honourable mention awards of 1k each as well.

Closing Date: 28th August 2007!

Joint first place for Echo-of-Cheese and Reychiella, because we liked both their entries.

Honourable Mention went to Lily-Maple, because even though her entry didn't match the competition specs we still really liked it.

When there is a colour theme, how will I know if my item will be included?
Well, generally the item will be completely that colour. However the item you are questing for has more than one colour (such as the …..) then you will need the colour of the month to cover approx. ¾ of the item. If you are unsure then feel free to PM TheThemeCharity to ask.

Last month you gave me a donation to my OMG quest because it was a 2004 theme, this month there is a black theme, can I apply again?

Items will be sold in the marketplace in the Charity Shop (or if they belong to the theme of the month and someone has requested them they shall be given as a donation).

What donations do you accept?
We accept anything, including fish, flowers and trash items, we will always find someone who can use them. We also love banners and art and stuff ^_^.

Since opening the charity back in March 2007, several Gaians have sent in little things to thank us for helping them. So we've now set up this Hall of Fame to put the lovely things people have done for us ^_^

If you know you did something but can't see it, it's because Akibe may have left it on her College network, hopefully it will still be there when she returns in October redface

Reychielia's Story

One day, Chuck Norris was strolling Gaia towns, round-house kicking scammers in the teeth. As he walked through the lovely rolling hills of South Barton, he began to notice something: many deserving and upstanding Gaians were diligently working towards certain items. They bought and sold in the marketplace, did hours of Puzzles, and bumped like crazy. Seeing these morally upright Gaians working so hard at their quests without taking advantage of each other moved Chuck Norris' mighty heart.

Chuck Norris had an idea. He visited Charities in all the farthest corners of Gaia, directing the questing Gaians to specific ones. Some went to demonic charities and others went to plushie charities. However, it wasn't long before even the mighty Chuck Norris grew tired. There were just too many charities, too many different items, and too many questers. He didn't know what to do.

But then, out of the blue, an idea struck him as he stood. Why, he would make his OWN charity! But then who would round-house kick scammers in the teeth while he was busy collecting and distributing gold? A dilemma of epic proportions... But wait, what was that? Why it was two oldbies, having an afternoon chat over tea! They were dressed in the finest clothes Gaia could offer.

He ran over to the two girls and said: "I have been all over Gaia and there are people everywhere who deserve items the cannot afford. You two are respected, relatively wealthy members of the community and you will make a charity in my stead!"

"But there are too many items and too many questers," the first said.

"The Charity shall have a different theme every month so that every Gaian can benefit from your generosity!"

And so, the two oldbies, Akibe and Airyn, followed the advice of Chuck Norris and created The Theme Charity, complete with rainbows. Now, Angelic and Nitemare questers can benefit from the same charity without discrimination!

Echo-of-cheese's Story

Prologue
“Yes grandfather?” came the quiet response through the darkness. The sound of slow and slightly wheezing breathing followed for a short while.
“I need…” came the old rasping voice, “I need you to get something for me.”
The girl’s eyes gleamed, her voice raising a tone slightly with anticipation and surprise, “what, grandfather? What do you need?”
He gave a gravely chuckle from the bed and looked up at her, sitting anxiously by the bed. “Not for me my dear, but for you.” He gave a warming smile as he watched her, “the angelic sash, like the one your grandmother used to wear. Find one, it will teach you what I cannot. Leave me here my dear. No use wasting more time looking after this old fool than you already have.”
The girl gasped, “Don’t talk that way grandfather!” but with that he had already plopped a bag of gold into her hand and ushered her out the door with a quick farewell.
“Go! The whole of Gaia is your oyster!” he called after her as she left.

Chapter 1: the attempt

Weeks later, and Akibe still had not uncovered the angelic sash. Having entered many of the places, she finally came to the charity centre in Barton. “This is useless…” she grumbled to herself looking around at others in a similar situation to herself. She also noted those that seemed a little worse for wear, n00bs who did not yet understand the meaning of hard work, aged people back after long periods of abandonment, even those who had previously been richer who had been robbed of all their worldly goods. Looking at such souls, she pitied them. “If only I could help them” she thought to herself “if they have been putting effort in then they deserve something out…” she paused reflecting on what was forming in front of her. “But what can I do? I can’t even help myself!”
Akibe did not realise that she had said this out loud until the person in front of her swivelled round, “I’m sorry?” said the figure, “Were you talking to me?” she had a kind voice and Akibe was impressed by her friendly demeanour.
“Sorry,” she responded “I was merely thinking about the plight of these people…”
“It is always such a tragic shame” agreed the girl, “Oh. I am Airyn”
“Akibe” she said as the two girls shook hands.
“What brings you here Akibe?” queried Airyn
“I am looking for something, it’s a quest if you will… for the angelic sash”
Airyn smiled sweetly, “Oh! What a nice idea! You came here to sign up yourself to see if anyone would help you I assume?” Akibe nodded, “You’re in luck” continued Airyn, “I am helping people at the moment with their quests with my friend Kagerou! We could always tag along with you if you wanted help!”

And with that, there was a sudden shift in our hero’s tale. With the feeling of belonging now instilled Akibe’s hopes were raised and her new friends continued to help her through her challenges.
We now shoot forward through time, to a more successful Akibe, having furthered her quest and raised much money she continued to persevere, making constant ground in her eternal quest. (This has absolutely nothing to do with Echo realising he has a word limit and all to do with a shift of perspectives and giving a more interesting time frame. No… really!)

Chapter 2: a sudden revelation

After successful travelling and managing to avoid any potential thieves, scammers or beggars, Akibe was pleased with her progress and stopped at the entrance to a mining facility north east of Durem. Turning to Airyn she asked quizzically, “what is in that mine?”
However it was Kagerou who spoke “Who knows, it’s been abandoned for years.”
“I heard they discovered a dragon in there! And so everyone got scared and ran away!” put in Airyn excitedly.
Akibe was intrigued, “A dragon? But why would a dragon be in there?”
“Why else?” Airyn spoke, her eyes shining, “treasure!”
Their heads turned at once to the cave entrance, Airyn’s eyes shining, Akibe grinning with anticipation, Kagerou leading the way towards the darkness.

In the darkness they battled furiously through enemies and confusing puzzles.
“Any idea why there would be so many impossible to manoeuvre passage ways and secret traps in a mine? Surely it would be more logical to make it easy for the workers to get it round.” Akibe asked after having to hit three stones in the right order to continue onwards.
“It seems ridiculous…” agreed Kagerou, “but it has meant we can gain some gold which is useful!”

Soon they got to a large doorway guarded by a gnome, who looked withered and tired. Conversing with him led to the discovery that a dragon of immeasurable strength did reside in the cave and was hoarding much treasure, however it was so vicious that the gnome miners had locked it up and created a complex system in the mine to keep away anyone foolish enough to attack the beast for its treasure.
“B-but we made it through!” stated Airyn
Gruffly the gnome replied, “But does that mean that you are ready to face such a beast, or that we foolishly made the mine too easy?”
Airyn and Kagerou were taken aback, but Akibe stood firm. “We are ready to face it.”
Looking into her determined eyes, the gnome receded, and the doorway swung open, its oak panel doors, reinforced with steel and iron creaking as they pulled inwards towards the dark cavernous room.

Chapter 3: a win and a loss

As their eyes became acclimatized to the dimly lit cave, they started to not the pile of slowly twinkling gold. Where the gold did not shine, there could be seen the scaly outline of an enormous sleeping dragon. A sudden flicker of fire appeared out of one of the dragon’s nostrils as it snored and turned over, now facing away from the trio. The small flicker of light had given Akibe all the time she needed to see multiple skeletons, most seeming to belong to gnome miners scattered around the floor of the cavern. “We couldn’t just creep up really silently and see how much gold we could steal without the dragon noticing could we?” queried Airyn.
“It’s worth a shot.” whispered Kagerou who scuttled down towards the gold stealthily. With the slightest tinkling of its gold moving, the dragon was up like a shot. Stepping back slowly Kagerou had no clue what to do, fortunately Akibe and Airyn were now at the fray too, ready for battle.
The battle was raging on and taking its toll on the three heroes, their arms tired from fighting and their attacks still only doing cosmetic damage, they needed a way to get it to lower its head to pierce the neck. “A distraction!” called Airyn, “but one of us needs to be it.”
There was a sudden shout, “I’ll do it!” shouted Kagerou. Standing up firm, Kagerou forced a run at the dragon, making it turn sharply and lower its head to attack. The other two used this to slice down together through the dragon’s neck, the length of the two swords made a clean cut each side of the neck nearly severing the neck right from the body. Their second blows were more fatal, but too late for Kagerou. When they went to the limp body of Kagerou on the ground, they realised the fatal effort used in the distraction. Then came a whisper, final words on final breaths. “Do not forget where you have come from; and what you felt back then.”

Chapter 4: After the shock

There was a new sign in the charity centre of Barton, a multicoloured and exciting one, a grand opening was announced. Many people flocked to see what would happen. When they arrived they saw two girls on a podium surrounded by multicoloured banners. The taller one was speaking, her face bore a noble yet saddened expression, though the shining angelic sash around her complimented her loyal and trustworthy appearance. “And long ago, when I was just starting out, I realised a great part of the culture of Gaia, should be the more fortunate of us helping those who are trying their hardest to help themselves. However, I wish to make it special and fun, in memory of one so special and fun to Airyn and I, Kagerou. And now, I give you… THE THEME CHARITY! Open for business!” with these words having scarcely been said by Akibe, a great cheer rose up from the crowd.

(Echo would like to take this moment to note the use of an ablative absolute in the last sentence. He would also like to thank Akibe for making such an awesome charity and Airyn for helping her. Due to my lack of knowledge about the whereabouts of Kagerou, I killed him/her off and avoided giving him/her a defined sex. I hope you understand)

Everyone is a type of book. Some are novels, others are sport magazines, and there are even people who are dictionaries! (*gasp* The horror!) Yet most of us are actually coloring books. We are coloring books, shiny and brand new or tattered with old age. Like most coloring books, we are not completely finished. We have more space to fill, more color to add, more dreams to achieve!

Luckily, there is a group of wonderful individuals who finish the abandoned coloring books. They go under the name of the Theme Charity. (Ta-Daa!!!) They steal from the rich and give it to the poor! (Well, actually the charity gets donations from the rich; they don’t steal)

This amazing group digs out their crayons, color pencils, and markers (and not to mention gold) and gives life to the incomplete coloring books. With each stroke of color, the books become more vibrant and rich. The books are finished! Their dreams are finally achieved!
