<i>20th June 2004</i>

Most of the babies room is finished now, walls painted, carpet laid and furniture put up. There is a cot, a tall dresser and a sturdy changing table all in pine which has a beautiful honey colouring to its wood. I'm still waiting on the delivery of my baby goods, which as I'm getting larger now I hope arrives soon. The baby hasnt dropped down yet, my bump is still round and high up, not lower the way it goes just before the baby is nearing full-term. Honestly I think I might miss being pregnant. Yes I got sick, and had some worrying moments but on the whole it has been a joyful time. The months have seemed to fly by, and I can't believe how big I've gotten. Bending down has gotten really hard to do, and I'm walking with a definate waddle now. Sati called me a duck the other day, but she scuttled away laughing when I gave her my look.
There are a few reasons I won't miss being pregnant. Sex is really awkward now, I'm going into details but I'm sure it must be akin to being in bed with a hippo for David right now! Swollen ankles, and the fact that maternity clothes look like tents. I won't miss that. I'm still unsure of what to name the baby, but hopefully another clinic visit will tell us the name.
Dear Diary,

Gods, how the time has flown. Sayuri is nearing the end of her pregnancy. In some ways i'm going to miss her being like this. The glow of life around her, the feel of her carrying a life in her, her, ummm, friskyness. But then there is the moodyness, and the sickness, and the cravings, which i won't miss. Well, i'm off to put together the last of the furnature that she bought for the baby, and to look through a name book.

*Sayuri's pregnancy seems to be coming along nicely. The baby is relatively quiet until the full moons, when its moves around quite a bunch. Not so much violently, but just as if it is full of energy. At one of their final clinic visits, Kamiki is able to finally get a good ultra-sound that shows the sex of the baby. Congrats, you should be expecting alittle girl!*
Dear Diary,

Well, we can at least narrow down the names now. We are expecting a beautiful baby girl. I'm partial to the name Rhiannon, though we will have to see what Sayuri thinks of that. Well, i'm off to look through some baby books and find some girl oriented toys.

Sayuri sat nervously in the clinic, her hand squeezing David's, and by the look on his face she was squeezing to hard. She lessened her grip, with an apology, knowing that he would forgive her as he knew why she was a little stressed. The pregnancy was nearing the end, and as she felt every movement as the baby turned, swimming around within her womb, she had gotten nervous at the thought of being a mother. Now, this was one of the last visits that she would need to make to the clinic before going into labour, and she was hoping that maybe the baby would be in a position to be able to see what sex it was. Her name was called, and they both went into the examination room. As before she lay on the foam padded table, her now large belly smeared in gel and in a few moments a picture of the baby was on the monitor of the ultrasound machine. Sayuri cried again, holding David's hand as she looked at the screen.
'That's our baby,' she managed, smiling, tears streaking her face. They watched the monitor together, whilst Kamiki gave them a moment's privacy then she came back. She then informed them that the baby had cooperated this time and she now knew the baby's sex. She informed them both that it was a girl, and after the appointment was over they left for home in a daze of happiness. Sayuri sat down with her diary when they were in the house;

I think I couldnt be happier now. I have within me a daughter, a baby girl. Seeing her on the ultrasound monitor, so much bigger then last time made me joyful and nervous all at once. I dont know if I'm ready for the actual mothering! David doesnt know how panicky I am - I dont want to tell him because I'm sure he is just as nervous! I guess I should tell him - then we can be the blind leading the blind or something. The babies room is almost finished which I think is a good thing. I have a few weeks left only and have already had a few Braxton-Hicks contractions - which scared the hell out of me at first. I thought I was already going into labour but after reading through my baby books and calling the clinic to confirm it I was able to relax a little. Which is what I think I'll do now, go and put my poor swollen feet up.

*the baby goes back to being "well behaved" for a week or so. Until early evening one quiet night, you feel a very odd sensation - not just a quick pain- but something else... it suddenly occurs to you - your water has broken! The wave of initial panic waves over you and for a few moments, you can't seem to do anything but stand there. Your gaze drifts to the large window in the room with the curtains drawn, and you realize that you're being bathed in the light of a full moon*

Sayuri eased herself into the hotspring, sighing as the water lapped around her. She gently sprinkled water over her now very large belly, relaxing a while and soaking away her aches. After a while she got back out, towelling herself and looking in the full length mirror.
<i>'Not too many stretchmarks,'</i> she mused - the cream she had rubbed into her skin every day had certainly helped. Then something struck her, her belly had lowered! Was the baby now in position for the birth? She certainly felt slightly different and her breasts were very tender and heavy. She walked slowly to the bedroom, sitting down on the bed and pulling her journal to her;

I believe that labour might be imminent. Maybe within the next few hours. The baby has dropped within the womb, the position of my belly has dropped and its now alot lower then before. I'm feeling very tired, not even my warm bath revived me and at this point all I want is for my little girl to be born.

She could only manage a short entry, and lowering herself down, she shut her eyes and tried to sleep.

Sayuri had woken early the next day, feeling a little more energised. She spent the day nesting, moving furniture around, trying to settle. As evening drew in she found herself in the bedroom once more. She had a mind to make a journal entry but she suddenly gasped, her hands flying to her belly and she bent a little. A liquid sensation was felt between her legs and she paniced a little, crying out;
'David! David! Come quick!..' she stood, leaning on the bed, panting in a little bit of fear, and she cast about for something to take her mind of it. Through the window slanting beams of moonlight fell onto her and she laughed;
<i>'Going into labour on the night of the full moon - who would have guessed?'</i> she said wryly...
David runs into the room, and catches the scent on the wind. "Its time?! Oh gods! We need to get you to the hospital!" David runs around, gathering things quickly, looking to be on the verge of panic, piling things on the bed, and shoving them into a suitcase, stopping to kiss Sayuri. "I love you dear." David gently leads Sayuri into the garage that is conceled in one cliff, and leads her to one of the tarp drapped vehicals, whisking of the cloth to revel a shelby gt 500. David grins a little as he settles Sayuri in the passanger seat, climbing into his own seat to start the car, and trigger the the doors, and then takes off down the road, speeding a little to get to the hospital.
Sayuri had panted the whole way to the hospital, completely oblivious to the journey, only concentrating on remembering the classes she had taken. She tried to breath deeply, and calmly, as another contraction hit her just as they were pulling up outside the hospital. David led her inside, and they went to the reception to check in.
David follows Sayuri, fussing over her, a happy, yet paniced look on his fast. His baby daughter was coming! What was he going to do!

*Sayuri is checked in promptly and they quickly get her into her room. Unfortunately, the birth isn't an easy one.... at all. The contractions start coming fast and hard. The clinic doesn't allow anything but natural childbirth anyway, but the doctors say there would be nothing she could do for the pain anyway... the baby is coming too quickly to do much of anything but grin and bear it*
David stays with Sayuri, holding her hand, kissing her forehead and wiping away the sweat there, wispering how much he loves her, comforting her as best he can. Watching the doctors for their reaction to all of this.
Sayuri screamed, her eyes shut tight. The contractions had been virtually non-stop once she had be shown to her room. She sat up in her bed, leaning forward clutching her belly as another ripped through her. She panted, gritting her teeth as yet another came on her and she had an overwhelming urge to push. She pushed as hard as she could, then collapsed back, sweat pouring off her as she lay there waiting for the next. Tears streaked her face and she turned to David;
'David, it hurts so much - I ...' she screamed and doubled up again.

*the doctors look concerned at the rate of dialation, but not paniced. In less than a hour of coming to the hospital Sayuri is being told to go for her final pushes. Its difficult, but after only a few minutes (it seems like hours for poor Sayuri), the high-pitched wail of a new baby is heard throughout the room. The doctors shove a pair of scissors in David's hand and tell him to cut the chord.

The baby is quickly cleaned up alittle and the doctor goes over and hands Sayuri's her new daughter. THe wiggly little girl stops crying for a moment and looks up at her new mommy with baby-blue eyes.
