11010101000: MATERIA

System Upload Commencing

    The end of the world.

One man saw it coming. And in the last years before the apocalypse, he vowed to save the human race. Alone, in the desert, he raised the city Materia.

    A crystalline paradise...

He dedicated his life to seeking out and finding exemplary human subjects, choosing only the best of the best for his white city in the desert, a technological society so advanced, it was capable of making its inhabitants immortal.

With each day, the world began to collapse and the elements began took their toll on the inhabitants of the world. Materia is the only chance of survival.

    SOLADA

The outer city, founded shortly after Materia raised its walls. Hordes of refugees live there, holding on to life however they can. Those who prove themselves worthy are selected by the Maestro's own aristocrats, the CYs, and brought inside the haven of Materia. Some return occasionally, before they truly settle in, and bring stories of the fantastic city, and of the life-saving surgeries paid for by the Maestro's company, the Flux Institute. Eventually, though, they leave...and they don't come back.

    More will be added later...

    MATERIA

The inner city, made entirely of pure white metal, plastic, and a strange, smooth organic substance (also white), is the only sign of technological civilization on the planet. A few creatures live there - no longer human, but not totally machine. Like the city, they exist solely to serve the Maestro, and to bring about his vision of the perfect race of cyborgs.

Materia is a city of luxury. Unlike Solada and the outside world, there is no shortage of food, water, or clothing. The inhabitants do not get sick. There are no parasites. There are no animals, no vermin. Everything is clean. Everything must be clean. The city is filled with novelties like edible music, clothes that conform to fit your body perfectly, personal robots that exist only to follow you around, bleep now and again and remind everyone how rich you are, and public broadcast robots that pump techno music through the city.

Everything is run, funded, and organized by the Maestro's personal supercomputer: the jobs, the houses, the tramways, the music, the theaters, the news broadcasts...and the people.

    Welcome to the last paradise.

    More will be added later...

    SOLADA TO MATERIA

The gates of Materia are very rarely opened. These occassions generally happen only when a Welcoming Ceremony is to take place. The Welcoming Ceremony is a grand event when chosen civilians enter the city of Materia. The refugees of Solada always gather around the gates in hope of catching a glimpse of the treasured empire. Once the gates are closed, they are locked and monitored until the next event. There is one way out of the city that only residents of the inner sanctum can access. The last stop of the city's prized monorail system leads to the edge of Solada. The path is barely ventured, and only the feeble newcomers cling to their past and visit before forgetting what lies beyond the protective walls of Materia. Once led into Materia, each human is left to their own devices, with only the request that they go to the FluxI Upgrade building when they are called for it. This can happen from several times a week to once in several months (For role-playing purposes you can decide when). Otherwise, the human must make do on their own, using their God given talents and intelligence to assist them onwards.

1100111111: THE STORY

Processing Data

Every culture has their version of the story. The story - the story of the end of the world. Usually, the story ends with the human race finally acknowledging some savior or another, receiving eternal wisdom, and going about their happy way. Eternal salvation.

But when the end of the world first came, salvation was years away.

The Maestro claims that God came to him in a dream and told him to make a city in the desert. From the wreckage of mankind, the Maestro would pull together the best, the brightest, and shelter them in his white utopia until doomsday.

    THE MAESTRO

At the center of this empire is the ever-mysterious creator, the Maestro. He is genius who breathed life into the city. Few have ever seen him, but he sees everything. Even Solada is monitored as he chooses the best blood to add to his army of magnificent CYs.

    FLUX INSTITUTE

As the headliner of this Utopian world, signs of Flux Institute are everywhere. You can be sure that everything from the public transportation (monorail) to the daily news broadcast is controlled by FluxI. It's pristine white tower sits at the center of the city. A tall and almost artistic transmitter, crafted by the finest, sits upon its tip. The building is of the utmost importance to the Materia's residents as it provides all of the Upgrades.

    YOU

You - what do you have to bring to Materia? Laborers, workers - those are not needed. Machines, robots, computers...they can labor in the factories, work as petty labor. But talent - pure, raw, unchained, indefinable talent - cannot be recreated by any computer program. That's what you must bring to Materia: your human talent.

    FAQ

  • So...these are...?

Cyborgs, in a crude sense. They're basically humans that have had all humanity stripped from them, save their brains and personalities.

  • How much will they cost?

    We're thinking somewhere around 12k.

  • This is stupid.

You obviously have no idea what amazing looks like, my friend.

Post a question, and it will be answered here.
