In the beginning, avatar contests were simple, a game of skill and creativity. But now, they have become so convoluted with the thought of gain and prizes that no one thinks of what is truly important. The avatar itself, and the skill with which it is made.

I was browsing through the AT one day, and thinking of how I wished there were more free contests, and wishing that there were contests without prizes. I end up giving my prize away half the time when I win because I'm just entering for the fun of competition and the joy of making avatars, not because I need the gold. So I was trying to think of a way that I could make a decent contest that was free, had no prizes, but would still be exciting and appealing.

That's when I came to the idea of ranks. Your score in each contest influences your overall rank, so that if you're a consistently good avatar creator you'll move up in the ranks of gladiators. If you're just a flash in the pan and got lucky with one good avatar you won't.

I want this to be all about competition and avatar skill, not about gold or items. I'm tired of seeing all these tektek contest threads filled with crappy avs that have no effort at all put into them by people who are just entering for gold. To the people who truly enjoy creating avatars the prize is just a bonus to the pleasure of winning. That's how I'm going to run this contest, and I hope you all enjoy it.

The guild is basically where all the behind the scenes work goes on. From contestant archives to thinking up new contests, almost all the work behind this thread is done from within the guild. Anyone and everyone are welcome to join, but please don't post in any threads that have 'S/O' in the title, as those are staff only threads for the purposes of organization.

OHaE "Quality" contests will consist of making an avatar to fit the given theme, specifically three key qualities.

Oh my... the Ceremonial Blade has certainly seen better days. Ooh, this is just a mess. We'll be needing a blacksmith! And not just any blacksmith, but one who truly represents boundless knowledge and experience. It would also be most if helpful if they could provide a weapon on which to judge their talents."

Remember to PM your entry to Oracle Renaulta Julia instead of posting it in the thread or PMing it to the Emp mule.

The idea pool is where we get all of the contest themes from! We're going to have contests of every type imaginable! If you have an idea for a contest you'd like to see, post it in either this thread or that thread using the code below. If we use your idea, we'll reserve a spot for you in that contest, and we'll send you notification when that contest begins. This was originally in its own post, but it got too large and has been moved to its own thread in the guild.
Also located in that thread is a section is for completed contests. If you see a contest there that you would like us to run again, just post in either this thread or that thread and tell us. For each person that requests it an asterisk will be added next to it. Contests with 5 asterisks will be put back in the main pool, if they get 10 asterisks they'll go straight into the upcoming contests pool.

The rules are fairly simple:
-No advertising to get votes, or using mules to vote.
-No entering with mules, especially if you are judging.
-Be nice and friendly in the thread, don't complain if you lose.
-Don't blame the judges. I don't want people complaining or crying about guest judges rates, otherwise they won't want to guest judge anymore. This is one contest among many. Take it with a grain of salt and try to make an awesome av in the next one you enter.
-If you yell at any of the staff you'll be banned from the thread.
-And yes, tekteks are allowed.

Since there are no gold prizes for this contest, there are no enty fees either. All you need to do to compete is PM an image of the avatar you want to enter for the current contest to the Emp. Be sure to title your PM with the contest's title, to help us stay organized. If there is a theme to the contest, please make note of what your avatar theme is, including a description and/or reference picture. There are only 9 slots per contest, so it's first come first serve. You are allowed to PM your entries for the upcoming theme as soon as it is announced. If your entry is accepted, you'll recieve a response saying "Accepted". If not, you'll recieve a response saying "Denied" along with an explanation as to why you were denied. All denied entries may be fixed and re-entered if so desired.

Judging will be a combination of poll results and my rate of each contestant's av, so that if someone wins on popularity alone, I can temper that with an in depth rate. Polls scores will be determined by whatever each contestant's score is at when one of the contestants reaches 10 votes. Also, I will allow the first place winner of a contest to be a judge in the next contest if they like, and in that case our individual ratings of everyone will be averaged. We'll be rating on a 1-10 scale using this format, with each category being worth 2 points:
  • Theme Execution
  • Creativity
  • Matching
  • Color Scheme
  • Overall Look
I'll add the judges average to their poll score to determine each contestant's final total, then that will be added to their ranking.

This is where you can read the descriptions that go with each contestant's entry in a themed contest if they include one upon entry. If it's a simple color or item use contest, this will not need to be used.

She glides above the golden sea below, finally meeting the embrace of a handsome gentlemen of suitable age. Her features distort, as tears flow from her eyes, for home is the final treasure in her collection, and one she shall never relinquish.
