Orange Range
All information listed here is from Wikipedia.
Orange Range is a Japanese alternative rock group from Okinawa. They signed with Sony in 2003. In 2004, their single "Hana" was used in the Japanese film "Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu," and sold over one million copies. Another single, "*~Asterisk", the first opening theme from the popular anime "Bleach", became the best-selling anime theme of 2005 with 628,329 copies sold.
Members:
Current
Hiroyama Naoto - guitar (born May 8, 1983)
Miyamori Ryo - low vocals (born October 1, 1985)
Ganeko Yamato - high vocals (born January 14, 1984)
Miyamori Yoh - bass (born December 11, 1983)
Hokama Hiroki - mid-range vocals (born June 29, 1983)
Past
Kitao Kazuhito "Katchan" - drums (born June 19, 1983) (Left the band due to tendonitis on his left little finger around the end of July, 2005, though his illness was apparently not the direct cause of his decision to leave)
Plagiarism Accusations
Orange Range has, on several occasions, been accused of plagiarism. These accusations intensified after several interviews band members gave to Japanese magazines. In an interview with Bounce, guitarist Hiroyama Naoto said, "Our slogan is, 'Rip off!' (laugh). We start out with covers, then we discuss stuff, like, let's obfuscate this part or people are going to notice(laugh)." In an interview with Rockin' On, he mentioned that his father had him listen to Grand Funk Railroad's cover version of "The Loco-motion" not long before the band recorded its own hit song. "Locolotion." When the interviewer asked "What? Was that why you created 'Locolotion?'," he replied, "Yeah. That was before we merged it with Shampoo (laugh)." (Shampoo probably refers to "Trouble" performed by the UK group, Shampoo.) Some fans feel this was a bad attempt at humour. However, their single, "Locolotion" was later re-credited to Carole King as a cover of "The Loco-motion", and "Orange Boat" was similarly credited as a cover of the "Banana Boat Song", made famous by Harry Belafonte. Similar accusations have been made on web sites and message boards, but no other actions have been taken.
