Island of Dr. Moreau Valentine's Event - Joint Concept Contest!


That's right! It's the Island of Dr. Moreau's February event! In the spirit of the month, this contest will get two new characters on the island that are connected in some fashion~! Both characters will be drawn together on the same piece of artwork for all of their stages.

The Rundown

End of Phase 2: February 21, 11:59 pm CST
Entry Fee: 2k per pair for the whole event. Please send the whole fee from one account.

The Specifics!


This concept contest is for not one but two appointments. However, there is a theme:

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the characters must be tied together in some fashion. HOWEVER, while lovers are an option, it is certainly not the only allowable relation. The two characters will receive one piece of artwork for each stage with both characters in it. They will change at the same time, therefore.

Concepts can be anything that has two interrelated characters. Here are a list of ideas:

Lovers?
Husband and wife?
Siblings?
Parent and child?
Co-workers?
Best friends?
Bitter rivals?
Something else?

Regardless, the two characters have a strong connection. And they wind up on the island together. Because of this, this concept allows for some different stories than the normal single-character concepts. You are given the leeway of being able to create a story with two characters in it, that come to the island together.

BUT, two different people must enter each joint concept. You cannot play both concepts yourself. AND, only one of the two players needs to be a newbie to the Island. But both characters must be new characters (ie, this isn’t a character interrelated to an existing islander, but two new subjects).

We DO reccomend that you specifically tailor concepts for this contest as opposed to adapting existing quest characters to make a stronger entry. OR, if you do adapt a quest character, allow this to be a flexible change to prevent you from painting yourself into a corner for future events that will not bring in two islanders at the same time. It is RARE that two people who know eachother are brought onto the island due to Feral Labs not wanting to be caught "disappearing" people.

Tenuous relationships, like two characters that happened to know eachother in college, or might have lived close to each other are not going to win this contest. So don't just pick a fellow quester and throw your concepts together haphazardly. Either strongly adapt a concept for the purposes of this contest, or create a concept FOR this contest.

REGARDLESS of what happens in the future, however, the two characters will be on the same artwork. Even if the two of you OOCly have a disagreement in the future, etc. So be careful when choosing a partner and keep this in mind.

The rate of growth of the winning characters will also take both of your participation into consideration. If both of you are active, great, they’ll change by the schedule as the artists’ completion allows. If one of you doesn’t RP as much, it might slow the changes for both of you.

Each of you WILL get your own cert, though, and the thumbnails on the cert will focus on your character out of the pair.

The animals for the two individuals do not need to be the same or even similar, however, this is one instance that we WILL allow two individuals with the SAME animal (as obviously the two of you would be in agreeance that it would be okay). Keep in mind that this means the two characters can have the same serum as eachother, but NOT as any other islander currently on the island. Serums allowed are any basic, anthropomorphic plant or animal. Additional features (such as nonmorphic, etc) will be available upon approval for the standard additional fees.

Entry fee is 2k per pair, paid up front.

RULES




  • It costs 2000 gold per pair to enter the concept contest. (send ONE trade per pair to Island of Moreau).
  • If you win, you will not be required to pay any more for the Serum.
  • Payment should be sent before you post your entry.
  • Keep to Gaia TOS (PG-13).
  • Do not edit your post once you have posted it. We will not go back and read them after we've read them once.
  • All writing must be your own work - you may work together with your partner, but no one else. This is meant to be a true example of your writing. No one but your partner should read over or edit your entry.
  • No Fan/copyright characters. You MAY adapt your existing original characters (or yourself), but keep in mind that this is a real-world setting. There are no jedi, no Hogwarts, no Magic.
  • NO MULES. You may only enter a concept contest ONCE). If you are caught entering a category multiple times, you will be disqualified and/or your serum suspended.
  • While there is not set length limit, Please keep your entry concise and pertinent. If you have pages and pages of background information, save it for your journal if you get your appointment. If we get bored while reading your entry, we may stop reading. We don't want you to write a novel, but we do want to allow you space to write what you think we need to know.
  • If you win a concept contest, it must be for YOU (specifically, the character you entered with). You may not give it to a friend.
  • This is not going to be judged BASED on spelling/grammar. But, if it is written very poorly, we will not take it very seriously, and judging will reflect on that.
  • Even if you win, you might be requested to minorly tweak something that doesn't jive completely with the canon plotline (such as method of arrival to the island).

Phase I
We want the gist of your concept! You do not need to go into uber detail (in fact, we would prefer it if you don't). If you win, we'll make sure that the concepts are thoroughly fleshed out and don't have any major issues with the setting, but for this phase, we want an idea of your concept smile

Phase II

10% of the final entries will be selected to make it to Phase 2, with a minimum of 10 pairs.

Phase 2 will be a roleplay sample submission of the two entrants RPng together one of the suggested RP prompts. RP submissions must be posted in a single post (do not actually RP in this thread), either copied from another forum or from an AIM conversation, and formatted legibly. RP submissions should be anywhere between 5-15 responses per player.

With your posted entry, please put the names of both entrants at the top and the characters' names.

Please don't change the text size of your post. Pick one of the following prompts for your RP sample.

Prompt A

Both of your characters have recently arrived on the island and been assigned to the upper and lower duplexes of the same unit. One of them finds out the Truth of the island (how is up to you) and takes it upon themselves to tell the other. Are they successful in convincing the other? How do they tell or show them? Play out the scene!


Prompt B

Your characters have been on the island for a few weeks and gone through their first change. without having heard of the deaths on the island previously, they find the light trail that leads into the jungle at night and they follow it to the graveyard. Play out the scene!
