Aislinn time for bed dear, that’s what they had told her about an hour ago, the people whom her mother had left to care. Aislinn tried to protest about it, how it was the full moon and that she must be with the moon at night. Of course they wouldn’t understand though, they were not part of the Gypsy Moon, how could they possibly understand, and off she was shooed to bed upstairs.

So there she sat on the bench in front of the window in her quiet little room, the rest of the house silent, though she could tell that something was definitely going on. She just sat there, legs bent up to her chest and her arms wrapped around her knees as she looked out her little window and to the moon.

Oh how she wished that her parents would come back to the village and take them with her. Her hand lifted to her father’s memento then, the necklace that was given to her by her family when she was just a small child. The one thing that she kept with her always to remind her of who she was and her origins.

A knock came on the door then.

“Aislinn? You awake?” The woman’s voice came as the door began to open.

“Yes. What is it?” She replied simply still looking up to the moon through the window.

The woman came in giving a soft but fake smile. “Aislinn dear, they’ve found your clan. It’s not that far from here now. They’ve set up camp and if we hurry we can get you back to them, you can be with your family again.”

Aislinn looked to the woman with this news hope and happiness sparkling in her eyes at the idea of being with her family again. To be with that of which she knew. Jumping to her feet in much excitement she grabbed the woman’s hand and tugged it as she started running towards the door, “what are you waiting for then, let’s go already!”

Aislinn rushed down the stairs where she was met by one of the village men. “Are we ready, Aislinn?” He asked her, and with a bright smile she looked to him and opened the front door to the outside for him to go out.

The man stepped outside and Aislinn quickly followed only looking back to wave good by to the old woman whom was standing in the doorway of the house watching them go.

The trip out of the village neither Aislinn nor the man said anything to one another. The man walked along silently dressed in simple black clothing, while Aislinn danced and hummed a tune her mother had taught her, a dance for the lady of the moon when she was full.

After a while they finally reached an area just outside of the great forest, and the man went about creating a small fire as Aislinn continued to dance about not really caring what he was doing.

Once the fire was set the man went to her and placed a hand on her shoulder to get her to stop moving about for a moment, and he knelt down to become eye level with her. “I must leave now. Wait here and someone will come for you I promise. This is where we told them they could find you.”

Aislinn stood there silently not quiet sure she understood, something inside her telling her that there wasn’t anyone coming for her. Still however, she nodded her head and quietly replied, “alright.”

She then watched the man stand back up and patted the top of her head. “Now you be good, and don’t give anyone too much trouble,” he told her with a chuckle, and then headed off back towards the village to leave her there with the fire.

Once the man from the village was out of sight Aislinn went back to dancing around the fire under the full moons light, as she started singing aloud the song her mother had taught her, her dress seeming to glimmer in the moon and fire lights.

The song was a word less tune, one that had been passed down from generation to generation of the gypsy clan. Continuing to dance and twirl around the fire a rustle of something just beyond the darkness of the forest came. Aislinn stopped in mid turn and looked to the woods thinking that it might be her parents finally have come to get her and that the villagers hadn’t been lying to her after all.

From the woods however, stepped out a large silver wolf-like creature; Aislinn scurried quickly to the other side of the fire to put it between them. There was something about this animal that kept her from running completely, she knew wolves could be dangerous and even deadly but like her people they had the respect for the night and moon, so she stayed.

Peeking out from behind the fire she watched the massive wolf and it watched her. He sat down just outside of the forest and in the fires light. Watching her just as she stood there watching him.

How long either one of them stayed like this it was really hard to say. Soon however a smile came over Aislinn’s face all fear gone from her and she stepped out from behind the fire slowly before she started dancing and singing again around the fire for the wolf happily.

The wolf just continued to sit there watching over her with crystalline blue eyes a small smile like expression coming across his maw as he watched her dance and listened to her tune.

When Aislinn had danced and twirled to the side of the fire he was on he howled up to the moon. This startled her and she stopped dancing and singing to look at him. That is when she noticed the necklace around his neck, and he noticed hers as well.

Neither of them taking their eyes off of the other they both started to walk to the other until they were only a few feet away from one another. There they both stopped just looking at one another silently under the moon.

“How did you get that?” Aislinn finally got herself to ask pointing to the necklace, her gypsy tribes memento, her fathers memento, knowing well enough that she would not get an answer, or so she at least thought.

The wolf did not answer, at least not then. Instead he stepped forward slowly and sniffed at her extended hand curiously, as if trying to figure out the same things about her. Aislinn stood there still and silent not wanting to startle the wolf in any way for fear of angering it.

“You’re Damian’s pup…” he finally spoke in a low husky sounding voice, which oddly had a slight purr to it.

“How… how do you know that? How do you know my father… where did you get that? Who are you?” Aislinn asked her voice quiet and shaken, she searched back through her memories of the stories her family had told her searching for answers.

“I knew him once, he had taken me in long, long ago and took care of me…he gave me this memento I guess you could call it. My name is Dynn, it is the name your father gave me long ago…” he replied to her.

That was when her mind went to the story her grandfather had once told her about how when her father was her age he had found an abandoned wolf pup, but it wasn’t like most seeming to be a hybrid of sorts. How her father had taken it in until one day he couldn’t keep it any longer that the clan wouldn’t allow it…

“It isn’t safe here young one we really ought to be on our way there is no one coming I’ve been listening for a while, and I’ve heard of this type of thing happening before…” Dynn told her keeping watch and listening carefully to their surroundings.

“The villagers said that mom and dad were going to meet me here…” Aislinn said shakily.

“I’m sorry young one but no one approaches… you should come with me you will be safe I promise.”

A tear trickled down Aislinn’s cheek then silently as she glanced back towards the direction of the village and then up to the moon.

The fire had already burned low and was nearly about to go out and Aislinn really didn’t want to be left alone in the dark even with the moon there to keep her company as a friend. Aislinn turned to look at Dynn again and nodded silently.

“Alright…” she finally said.

Dynn nodded and stepped to her nuzzling his nose to her lightly before he turned towards the forest once more.

Aislinn placing her hand on his back nodded again and said, “let’s go…”

With that they both started to walk towards the forest entrance together side by side. Aislinn only looked back once more to watch the remains of the fire burn out before turning back and stepping into the forest with Dynn at her side, walking into her new home with the only link to her family that she had left.

In the north west of the jungle at the mountains edge, a small stream ends off into a light pool of water. Hidden within the brush and vines, within the wall of the mountain lies a cozy little cave hidden off from the elements and the rest of the world.

This is where Aislinn and Dynn spend their nights sleeping or in bad weather. The little place where they like to call home, where the moon light dances upon the water like glistening gems and watches over them with watchful eyes.

Father's Memento - Gypsy Moon necklace

This necklace both Aislinn and Dynn wear, both given to them by Aislinn's father Damian. It is a symbol of her family's clan the Gypsy Moon. It is the last connection that she has to her family besides Dynn. Both recieved them when they were really young.
