Alright, I really am terrible at updating this... AaN will be going through some transitions soon, and this thread will be shutting down and becoming nothing more than a directory. Beyond that, what exactly will be happening is still uncertain. A new thread run by someone else but still fully associated with this one may or may not be set up. Whatever happens, I will be doing my best to gather links to different newbie and instructional programs and such (though I would also be open to people helping me out with that).
REMINDERS:
- If you like to chat, bump, and spam, check out our Chatterbox thread!
- If you like to roleplay or want to practice, check out The Shooting Star!
There are just a few more things that you should know, before you go on...
First, you do not have to be new to be considered a "Newbie." I'm using the word to replace "student," so you only need to be willing to learn.
Second, this is a free service. Depending on how things go I may request donations to help with certain things, but you will never be required to pay for anything by Adopt-A-Newbie.
Third, anyone can help anyone else, whether Newbie, Mentor, or random passer-by. That's what this thread is all about, after all!
If you support my efforts, please copy one of these to your signature!

DISCLAIMER: I am not responcible for for any false information provided by anyone in this thread or GaiaOnline, problems that may arise from visiting links shown in this thread, or issues with people who associate themselves with Adopt-A-Newbie (including those listed as Newbies and Mentors). I'm not all-knowing!

Dear Gaians,
I have been an internet user for about 8 or 9 years, and a member of Gaia since June 1, 2005. I've been a member of some large sites, some small sites, some great sites, and some sites that died away. There's a number things I've learned in the time that has passed, and certainly many more that I have not. I've also gone by many names, and invite you to call me what you like - that is, so long as I know you mean me, and it's not something meant to insult.
Something that is very apparent on Gaia is that many of the members need help around the site, especially the new ones. This can be something simple as knowing where to get a particular item, to something more lengthy, such as getting lessons on how to role play.
Furthering this problem is something worse: flaming of those who aren't sure where to look for information, who have a bit of trouble, who do not yet understand how much many don't like chatspeak, et cetera. Being rude to these people generally won't have that great of an effect on them; instead, we often end up with one more rude n00b or another dead account that just takes up space.
I have seen attempts to help these people, though, and those who are patient with them. I've tried to help out, too (though, admittedly, I have participated in a minnor bit of n00b bashing and have wanted to slap some people who type very poorly). These things are limited in how much help they actually are. But, because there does seem to be willingness to help, and because individual attempts are so limited, I decided to create this thread: Adopt A Newbie.
So to all of you, newbies and oldies alike - Welcome to GaiaOnline.
Sincerely,
Novalyyn
