In trying to reach a resolution on the subject of my main account's banning from 2005, I was just hit with this intriguing gem in a PM from a mod, especially given the current rash of "banned for profitting from botted gold" bans.
So, Gaia's policy in banning favors only the one who filed the complaint? I was also told the mod who led to my own banning "repeatedly" contacted me and argued with me, when I maintain she most certainly did not.
How are the accused to defend themselves? How does Gaia then guard against false reports?
This very topic is a prime example of such a situation. One could say I have made up the moderator quote there. I could provide a screen of the PM where it came from to prove I did not. Then one could say that the screen was a fake itself.
How then can the words of one be held as truth over the words of another? What proof is there that the accuser's are any more valid?
This is the flaw I see in the moderating system of Gaia. Reports are not always so black and white. As such, a clear-cut course of action should be determined and given to both parties involved in such a dispute, then see if the actions are carried out before a ban....especially a PERMANENT ban....is delivered. A ban should never be given on the word of another user, rather on the actions of the accused after the course to resolution is given. Gaia is no longer just the free forum it was when I joined in June 2003. It is now a business, selling "monthly collectibles" and "store credits" through the G-Store, and that makes them a business, with any buyers of their digital product becoming consumers. That gives them a certain responsibilty to the customer....far more than the "guilty until proven innocent" attitude displayed in the quote above.
I have asked for my old account's PMs be reviewed and I have also asked for screenshots of them....it will be interesting to see if I get them, since I now seem to be a second-rate citizen to Gaia.
xp I think the topic is pretty clear. Let's discuss.
Official confirmations on the subject of bans and the ToS so far:
- There is apparently an "appeals system" being worked on, but no further details nor a timeframe was given.
- Banned users can create new accounts, despite the wording of the updated ToS.

The courtesy goes to the person who reported the scam. To be quite blunt m'dear, you are being looked at as the guilty and convicted party in this. That's why you're not getting the same amount of courtesy.
