Quote:
To everyone who has been a part of Dragon-Bound for these long years: I am sorry to announce that Dragon-Bound will be closing. I believe this has been a long time coming, but it is still a sad and difficult decision I had to make. But to help explain why this is being done, let me tell you a bit about the history behind Dragon-Bound.

I drew my first dragon while I was home at my parent's house from college. It wasn't break, it wasn't the weekend - I was home because I had one of the first of many appointments with a neurologist. At that time, no one really knew what was happening and no one knew just how bad things would dissolve. Throughout it all, Dragon-Bound was a constant where it didn't matter how ill I was. Since I was unable to leave the house most of the time, I was able to devote a lot of time towards the shop.

Now, some major changes have happened in my life. The first is I've gotten into a healthier environment and my health has improved, to the point where I'm able to start up again many of the activities I'd abandoned when I first got ill. Two weeks ago, I was put on a new medication, and since starting it I have not had a single episode of my disorder acting up. This is incredible, as my fits were a daily occurrence. I feel that with this new development, and with my continuing improvement, I will not have the time to dedicate to Dragon-Bound that it deserves as I resume my activities outside of Gaia.

I will also be leaving Gaia itself. My other projects - my writing, the SCA - have been pulling me away to the point where I am simply not on Gaia that much anymore. I do not intend to sever ties with all the people I've met here. I can be found on deviantArt, Google+, Facebook, and Minecraft. I invite you all to let me know your accounts in turn so I can keep in touch with you.

Furthermore, I intend to empty my account. I've had a very long time to accumulate gold and due to a hoarding tendency, some of the items in my account are worth a lot of gold. I will be having one of those giant 'draw me stuff and I'll overpay you for it' threads. Come hang out with me. Help keep it bumped. Help me get rid of I-don't-want-to-even-say years worth of stuff.

Now, for some necessary shop business. All non-adult dragons are eligible to be aged through their stages to adulthood. I will only be doing this by request, as there are a number of abandoned dragons and I want to make sure I'm putting my effort towards the people who are still interested. Please post in this thread if you want your dragons to be aged and which ones you own. If you have an outstanding dragon that has not been started, I will be refunding your trade. Please contact me privately if you have any concerns.

I just want to thank all of you for being part of this shop through the years. I'm not sure how many people are aware of how dark things got for me there, but it was pretty grim. This was a safe haven, and for that, I thank you. We've had some amazing people and such creativity come through here. I hope that all of you take something from this shop and continue to pursue all those wonderful ideas that you shared with me and the other people of this shop. Keep writing, in some form. It's worth it.

Long ago, the dragons were masters of the sky. They covered the world, from coast to coast, into the northern mountains and the wastes beyond, through the Kievho desert, and even ventured into the forest of the fae. Nothing was forbidden to them, for the skies were their domain and only they could reach the heavens.

A group of humans desired to have this power for themselves and met in secret, creating a spell that would steal away the dragon's gift of flight and embed it in the souls of humankind instead. On that terrible day the dragons' wings were ripped from them, the magic of the air torn out and leaving their wings stunted and tattered messes, pale shadows of what they had been. Thousands upon thousands of dragons died either by falling from the sky or from the shock of having part of them ripped out. But the spell was incomplete. Dragon magic and human magic could not exist together. Humanity had the gift of flight but they could never use it for themselves.

Retaliation was instant. Every mage that had participated died within the day, wiped out of existence in vengeance. The dragons slaughtered humanity, wiping out entire cities in their grief and rage. The war drug on with the dragons fighting to eradicate the humans with no regard for their self-preservation. They had lost their wings. It didn't matter what happened now, so long as those responsible suffered.

When it seemed both races would perish, a small group of young dragons, led by a human mage, found that it was possible to reclaim the gift of flight. By binding a human's soul to their own they could again fly with their broken wings. The war abated and the dragons retreated to the mountains and the forest, taking with them a human captive each, to be forever tied to the dragon.

These humans became known as Dragon-Bounds. Their wills enslaved, they had no choice but to do as their dragon master said. Some dragons deemed this just punishment and were cruel to their Bounds. Others believed it a chance at redemption for both races and formed a sort of partnership, with the human sharing the dragon's long life and ability to use magic. A rank of knights made of dragons and humans even formed. Still, it is an uneasy truce, and violence between the two races is common.

Do you have the courage to reclaim the skies?

There are five breeds of dragons in the Dragon-Bound world and a handful of rarer types that exist through special circumstances. Dragons go through five stages: egg, hatchling, youngling, adolescent, and adult.

Ascended Dragons
Dragons that have done great things for the betterment of the races will be blessed with wings that they can fly on without the help of a Bound. Ascended dragons can also be born from an ascended parent. These dragons have cloven hooves, tufted tail, and feathered wings. If they take a Bound, he/she will have matching wings.

Tainted Dragons
Dragons can be infected with the vampire curse and become tainted dragons. These are either created by another tainted, binding a human vampire, or are born from a tainted parent. Tainted dragons cannot fly without a Bound and anyone they bind becomes a vampire. They are skinny with furred manes, paws, furred tails, long ears, and thin demon-like wings. If they take a Bound, he/she will have matching wings.

Fairy Dragons
The fae in the southern forest can bind a dragon to them, enslaving it to their will in the same way a dragon can bind a human. These dragons are transformed by fae magic and become fairy dragons. Fairy dragons can also be born from a fairy parent. Fairy dragons have thin tufted tails, long manes, pointed ears, and fairy wings.

Special Dragons

The following dragon types can only be obtained through special events or roleplay.

Reborn
These dragons are the combination of a dragon and their Bound. When a dragon and Bound are so close that their thoughts even intertwine, they can be transformed into one creature. Reborns are custom artwork and will be an anthromorphic mix of the original dragon and Bound. A male/male pair will result in a male, a female/female pair will be female, and a male/female pair will be neuter. Reborns cannot breed and can fly on their own power. Any dragon type can become a reborn.

Dragon Knight
A dragon knight is a dragon and Bound that has been squired to a dragon knight for a time and risen to the level of being knighted by Master Lierce and Master Hammand. These dragons have custom artwork of them wearing armor. Any dragon type can be a knight, but normal dragons are favored.

Blessed
If you seek the Blessed Path, then Sain shall be your guide. Seek the knowledge that shapes this world. The Blessed Path contains two additional stock stages and the final stage with two sets of custom lineart.

Roleplay Guild can be found here.

The Dragon-Bound world is a medieval setting with three playable races: dragon, human, vampire or fae. The humans are the most abundant race and anyone can play a human character, regardless of whether you own a dragon or not. Dragons can only be played by people that have obtained one through the shop. Fae and vampires can be played by anyone with shop staff approval. If you wish to play a fae, please create a profile and then contact the staff to have someone look it over and okay it. We will favor giving shop regulars these characters.

More information including maps, NPCs, gods, magic, social structure, etc can be found in the guild.

If you are interested in obtaining a special dragon through roleplay, it must meet the following requirements. Please contact staff if you are trying for one of these types and feel your dragon is ready.

Ascended/Fallen - Must have done something that is for the benefit/harm of the dragons or humans as a whole. The end result is what matters, not the means, so it is entirely possible for a dragon to ascend even if they aren't 'good', just so long as what they do results in good. These dragons will not cost any extra to ascend/fall.

Tainted - A tainted dragon must be turned by either being converted by an existing tainted dragon or binding an already-established vampire character. If you wish to convert your dragon, contact the owner of a vampire/tainted and work something out to roleplay. Please notify staff as well. We reserve the right to override any conversions. There is no additional cost.

Fairy - A fairy dragon can be created by being bound by a fae. This can either be a NPC fae or an already established fae character. Please notify staff if you are attempting to be bound by a fae or wander into the southern forest. There is no additional cost.

Reborn - Must be an established dragon/Bound pair that has been together long enough that their personalities are starting to meld. The pair must demonstrate in roleplay that they are familiar enough with each other to be thought of as one entity. Please contact staff if you wish to be considered for this dragon. This will cost 100k.

Dragon Knight - A dragon must first declare their intentions to join the Order and spend time as a squire to an established Dragon Knight. After some time roleplaying as a squire, the dragon will be knighted if they deserve it. This will cost 200k, due upon being made a squire. If the dragon does not make knight this will be refunded.

Blessed - Blessed cost 300k, due upon starting the Blessed path. If a dragon fails this cost will be refunded. Please inform staff if you are wanting to try the Blessed path and we will arrange your Trial.

Dragons CAN die on the Blessed path. This is a true and permanent death - you stand to lose your dragon for good if you fail. As always, staff will warn you if your dragon is in danger of this.
