There are four gifts available to you; true to LOTUS form, you may send one of four lotuses based on four different nationalities! Each lotus has a different tie-in with Christmas, and each will change into a different chibi doll on Christmas. Please note that all lotuses will turn into unique chibis, which means that these are not template-based, but all hand-drawn from scratch!

England has historic ties with the holiday of Christmas. Celebrated for centuries, English traditions have shaped Christmas over the years. One of the oldest traditions that survives today has its roots in Anglo-Saxon customs; it has spread to countless countries and exists under several different names. The English Lotus represents this tradition.

Hawaiian :: Male
Hawaii used to exist as a kingdom separate from the United States of America. Under America however, Hawaii celebrates Christmas as the rest of the states: with style. The beautiful, lush island paradise of Hawaii nurtures growth of many flora and fauna. There are many natural symbols that have come to be associated with Christmas since the nineteenth century. The Hawaiian Lotus represents one of these symbols.

Due to its booming economy and well-known commercial leanings, it's no wonder Japan has adopted the Christmas holiday. While secular, that doesn't mean Christmas is much different in spirit than in other countries! As a country known for artistics and ornamentation, Christmas in Japan can be a delight for the eyes. The Japanese Lotus represents this aesthetic.

Russian :: Female
Banned for nearly a decade, Christmas is just now making a comeback as Russia recovers from the reprecussions of the breakup of the USSR. Despite this, Russia is the perfect setting for any Christmas celebration, as it is an immaculate winter wonderland due to the cold climate. The Russian Lotus represents this seasonal setting.

If you would like to send a more personalized gift, we are offering semi-custom lotuses, where you may choose colour schemes for your gifts. Please limit your selections to three (3) colours, or provide a general colour scheme.

What's this? It's a bird, a plane... no, it's a LOTUS holiday flatsale!

In the spirit of the season, LOTUS is holding a holiday flatsale! If you don't know what Lotus is, please click on the above banner to find out.

Starting Date: Thursday, December 21, 2006
Ending Date: Sunday, December 24, 2006 @ 10:00 PM EST/8:00 PM MST/7:00 PM PST

Each character will cost 25k, and there are two characters available in this sale!

Please note that these characters are RP-required. I REPEAT: THESE CHARACTERS ARE RP-REQUIRED. If you do not have the time or dedication to roleplay and at least fulfill the minimum RP requirements of this shop (posted below), please do not try for one. Also note that this shop will be full-literate, which means grammar and spelling do count. If your English is not so hot, please use a spell-checker.

LOTUS requires you to RP at least twice a month, either by yourself in story/journal format or with others. This is elaborated upon in the main thread.

This sale will be an RP-prompt flatsale. You must reply to either of the following two prompts. The only creative restrictions placed upon your responses are: (1) they must actually fit with the prompt, and (2) they must incorporate your LOTUS concept character.

Please reply either of the following prompts:

PROMPT ONE

A bright light... You slowly open your eyes, but quickly shield them again with a hand. The past twenty-four hours have been a blur...

PROMPT TWO

Laughter surrounds you, its sound like tinkling crystal bells reaching into the recesses of your mind. And all of a sudden, you remember...

When submitting your response, please include:

Your name
Character's name
Character's nationality
Which character you are trying out for (either 1 or 2)
Which prompt you are replying to

In the spirit of the holidays, it's been decided that you may choose a character with any nationality you wish! (Save for ones already in play- see rule #9.)

[ rules ]

1. No co-owning. These characters are RP-heavy and I just don't see how it would work with more than one owner.
2. Please post all entries in this thread.
3. Items will be accepted. Please post the items you are thinking of using and Jyoti will tell you if they are accepted.
4. All Gaia and Lotus rules apply.
5. No extensions unless Jyoti says so.
6. Payment plans may be worked out if you do not have enough gold.
7. Do not edit your entries after you submit them.
8. Only one entry per person.
9. You may only choose a country that is not currently in use. This excludes Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, The United States of America, England and Italy.

[ faq ]

You know those examples on the front page? Are they the characters being flatsaled or is it only a sample of what the artist can do and the winners will have to describe the appearance a bit?

The examples are just to show what the artist can do. If you win, your character will be completely original. For example, if you chose China, your character would be based around Chinese culture. You may make some suggestions as to what you would like to see in the appearance of your character, but ultimately the artist decides that. You will, however, have complete control over your character's personality, and that will be worked into the character design.

As I answer the prompt, will I be RPing as the character I want?

Yes.

So for the prompts, you just elaborate on the excerpt?

Can we include more in our response than what you have required?

Of course! Feel free to go wild. xD

The prompt response, should it be before you join the LOTUS, as you join the LOTUS, after you join the LOTUS? Or any, doesn't matter?

I don't think it matters. But if you include any LOTUS stuff in your response (such as NPCs or settings), then try not to be contradictory or 'OOC', for lack of a better term.

For the response, it's just... completely random? like, you make up your own character or something?

For the response, you will be replying using the character you want to RP at LOTUS. Meaning you make up your own LOTUS character, and this will be the one that I will draw and that you will use in the shop. Don't worry over little details or anything; you can most definitely change those later if you wish, but your country of origin must be decided and finalized.

There are two Lotus characters for sale in this flatsale, both being drawn by Jyoti. Each character will be custom-drawn, according to their nationality, personality, and the artist's inclinations.

To ensure variety, there are some very minor restrictions on the nationality of your character.

Character 1 must be from an African or South American country.

Note: yes, plenty of countries missed being named, just because trying to rattle off the world's nations off the top of your head isn't a simple matter. Any past or present country is fine...this list is just here to give lesser-known--but very cool!--countries more chance of being used.

If you need any information about any country, the World Factbook is great for a brief summary.
