Libero

I'm hoping the layout of this thread is pretty simple; the first post is some brief FAQs and a run-down of what I'm looking for etc, the second small profiles of the two main characters and the third a very brief outline of the story and its setting without giving too much away. xd

What is this thread for?

"Libero" is something based on roleplay between myself and a very good friend of mine -- from whom I have permission to do everything, don't worry -- that I started toying with a couple of months back in hopes that I could string it together in a proper storyline and present it in a game-like fashion. However, I don't think the jump to game is going to work too well as I'm never going to be able to program it and I'd rather not see the universe go to waste, so I thought it might be interesting to see how it'd hold up if converted to an anime/manga/comic style. It was always roleplayed with that kind of style in mind, so hopefully the transition should be pretty fluid.

Now, I may have the entire storyline planned in my head and some ability to write scripts, but I can't draw anything besides stickmen to save my life; that's where you come in. I'm looking for an artist. I'm not sure whether we'd be running with the webcomic or lets-get-published mode of operations yet, but that's simply because I don't really know how interested other people would be in the characters and how well things are going to go in general. Also dependant on the artist, obviously.

I'm an artist! What is required of me?

If I like your ideas, you like mine and we find ourselves working together, we will come to an arrangement involving no payment per-se but some level of partnership or shared ownership of the finished product.

What I'm really looking for is somebody that would be willing to spend time talking to me, get to grips with the characters, the world they live in and everything like that and really plan things as much as possible whilst remaining dedicated to the project. I understand that people have real lives -- I myself will be going back to University in three weeks and my free time is somewhat limited -- so by 'dedicated' I don't mean necessarily working on it every day or x days a week, just not running off midway through production because you've lost interest.

Oh, and interest in the project is a must; you're unlikely to give it your best shot if you're not interested in the characters and don't like the storyline, right?

Another big thing is how much I like you personally; I'd quite like to have a close working relationship with whichever artist gets chosen so I'd feel comfortable putting my characters in their hands. Nothing too surprising, I'm sure you agree.

Okay okay, how do I apply already?

Simple; just fill in this form and post it here. Don't pester me by PM. If I want to talk to you privately, I'll initiate it.

Timezone: Please give this as GMT+ or GMT- if possible.
Age:
Gender:
Mother Tongue: What's your first language?
Examples of My Work: DeviantArt? Past manga/comics?
Libero Art: This isn't required, but it'd be damn awesome if you could throw together a quick sketch of one of the two characters outlined in the profiles below so as to give me an idea of how you'd treat them. Obviously I won't say "You drew them wrong" or anything, becuase without my input you can't be expected to know everything; I just think it'd be interesting.
Why I'm Interested: I don't expect an essay here, just something to let me know you're serious about it and what part of what I've written grabbed you.

The two main characters of the Libero universe are Seth Darkheart (I'm named after him, not the other way around, though his surname can be changed if it's that important) and the enigmatic 'Boxah'. Though both characters would feature strongly throughout, the way I currently see it is the first 'arc' focusing on Seth, the second on Boxah and the third being equally shared between them.

Seeing as this is likely to cause some amount of criticism, I'd like to take a few moments to mention that there is a ressurrection involved in this storyline, made possible through ancient magicks and the inherent Muse energies present throughout the world. If I really like your work, I'd hope we could reach a compromise, so please don't be too put off by any minor plot details; feel free to ask if there are any details you feel uncomfortable with, though be aware that there are some that may appear unimportant that are actually quite necessary.

Seth Darkheart
Seth is a 21 year old man from a country called "Tenaria". He stands at around 5' 10, has blue eyes and medium length teal hair. At the beginning of the first arc he is living in the back room of a bar in some Mordanan slums, having been forced from his home by a civil war that claimed many of his family and friends. He's rather socially inept, at least to start with, and is afraid to make his Tenarian origins known to anybody lest they judge him. Having known little in the way of friendship, those that he does strike up are strong ones and he remains loyal to them. His Tenarian roots are the reasoning behind his reluctance to accept technology and whilst those around him engage in combat with guns, Seth fights only with his fists, feet and knives.

His signature outfit is made up of blue trousers, a black long-sleeved shirt, sneakers and a purple 'pimp' hat, though when living in the slums his clothes are grey, tattered and torn.

Seth acquires his Muse around halfway through the first arc.

Boxah
Boxah's age is unknown, though he appears to be around 25 and nothing is known of his origin; even his name was lost, and 'Boxah' is simply a name he adopted. He's around 6 foot, slightly taller than Seth, with blue eyes and short black hair -- though his hair is blonde when he is first encountered, for reasons that will be explained later. At the beginning of the first arc, Boxah is dead, shot by a special unit sent after him by the MPD for his ties with the Libero Mafia. He returns to life near the beginning of the first arc when he gains his Muse and it is here that he meets Seth. Boxah smokes cigarettes and fights with a Cassul, though he later begins to fight using a sword named Caliburn.

His signature outfit is currently undecided, though it is likely to be black trousers, a white shirt and a black jacket of some kind.

The storyline of Libero takes place on an as yet unnamed planet much like Earth. The only two continents mentioned in any detail are that of Tenaria and Mordana; the first being a backwards country divided by civil war and the second a technologically-advanced one that extends outwards in a web-like fashion from its central city of Reine. Tenaria is only visited via flashback and Seth's dreams.

There are three 'planes' in the Libero universe; 'the world', the one in which everybody lives; 'Purgatory', which simply serves to divide the planes and is believed to be empty; 'Overdimension', a kind of governing body that oversees the operation of the multiple worlds. The Muse are the remnants of an ancient civilisation with ties to Purgatory and a being known as Ashantis. Their energies seep through to the world from Purgatory and can then be harnessed to perform various magicks. This harnessing of Muse energy was known to the Tenarians and they have a high number of magick users, but has long since been forgotten by the Mordanites.

Two Muse -- yes, it's a plural and singular -- come into contact with Seth and Boxah and that is what drives the storyline forwards; away from Seth and Boxah's mafia dealings and fight against the Mordana Police Department and towards a good vs evil struggle constantly interrupted by Hunters from the Overdimension, attempting to rid the world of what they perceive to be a threat.

I apologise if I've been vague, but I didn't feel that giving a blow-by-blow of all three plot arcs I have planned was really necessary... That and I'm a little reluctant to share everything with the entire internet at once. :p

If you have any questions of any kind, please don't hesitate to ask!

Oh my, it all sounds so wonderful. O.O

Unfortunately my art skills are inadequate, and there's my attention span, resembling that of a goldfish, to consider as well.

Butwow. If I could draw/wasn't all A.D.D I would kill for a chance to do this. <3

I vow never to draw again, I swear. xd
Hmmmm.

Not sure... I could use the practice in comickry, but I don't know that I could commit myself the way you'd need me to.

Best of luck with it, anyway.
Hm... it does sounds kind of interesting, but it sounds like a very long project. sweatdrop Plus, you never even mention any girls and while I'm not bad at drawing guys, I'm much better at girls.

Well, there are some girls, don't worry. xd

Boxah's girlfriend, a girl named Jacky that infiltrates the mafia by pretending to be interested in Seth, a couple of female MPD officers...
If I could draw. X_X

Goodluck with this Seth. =3

I'm starting to wonder if this was really the best way to go about trying to find artists; does anybody else have any suggestions? ^^;
I suppose you could just practice a lot until eventually you're confident in your own ability to do it yourself. I'd opt for the job, but I have no scanner (or talent, for that matter).
