Have you ever read through an OC's profile and was so amazed that you thought they would become legends, maybe even living legends? Well I have, and as there are a LOT of talented and creative Gaians, this project is intended to draw them all out of lurking.

So what exactly is this thread all about then? Well, Legends is a BIGASS project that I wish to start, but I would need a LOT of help from you guys. Basically, it will comprise of several threads. That's right, several.

The backbone of this project is a CHARITY. As a writer, I've had several OCs which were closer to the heart than the others, and hence became and artwhore, wanting art of them. However, when I started, I was shocked at the prices artists charged. Not every Gaian is rich, and I certainly wasn't.

But now that I have unexpectedly gotten my hands on some gold/items after winning several writing contests, I thought, why not help out those with awesome OCs to get some art? So the charity thread will require people to submit their OCs and be graded. Those that pass will receive a donation. And to make things more interesting, at the end of the month, the person with the highest score will become the month's LEGEND and receive an extra donation!

Sounds interesting doesn't it? Now, as I don't have unlimited funds, I doubt I would be able to keep on donating for months without any help. And because it's not wise to hope for external donations to the charity, the ART SHOP will be the second thread.

First of all, I'm not an artist. But I'm hoping several (say 3 to 5) charitable artistic souls are willing to set up a new store, selling art in the R&C. A percentage of proceeds from the store will be used as charity funds. Sounds reasonable right?

Lastly, there can be other threads such as AUCTIONS or WRITING CONTESTS, but the most important thing is to get the charity and shop founded first.

I'm hoping to get this up and running by December (since Christmas is the time for giving), so thanks for taking the time to read through this introduction!

Suggestions regarding the charity: I like Cartagia's idea about the evaluations and advice. Also, if an OC is approved for a donation, they could get discounted or free art from the shop instead?
Would you donate to the funds? If so, how much: Yup, and as much as I could spare. Could be anywhere from 1-5k a week, depending on what goes on and such. Should something come up -- a tipper in my shop, a random event, etc -- you can expect more.

    Suggestions regarding the charity: Hmm, maybe if an artist really likes an OC they can choose to do art themselves at a lowered price? Or maybe the "Legend" winners can get discounts at the art shop?
    Would you donate to the funds? If so, how much: Well, I'm usually poor, but sometimes I donate to Gaia, so I might be able to donate some letters, or 1 or 2K gold (I'm poor I tell youuu ._.)

Why you want to be a helper: I'm very interested in other people's characters - like I said, I would read the applications anyway. xd I'm also doing an english degree and I write a lot...so I know a great deal about originality in characters.

How much time you spend on Gaia: If I'm not at work or out hanging out, or watching a movie, or playing videogames or something, I'm on Gaia
Why you want to be a helper: No particular reason. I need something to pass the time, build up some street cred and all that.
Suggestions regarding the charity: I'd like to say that I am an avid roleplayer. I think applicants should go roleplay or something, because it would be hXc. Gets a good picture of a character not just with a bio, but with actual interaction and all that.
Would you donate to the funds? If so, how much: 100% of what I make in this place, because I'm not allowed to make gold from it.

Why you want to be a helper: I like reading about peoples' OCs, and I have gold to spare. I am however, a really strict judge, lol. You'd like, need someone nice to balance me out.
Suggestions regarding the charity: *shrug* I'm dumb.
Would you donate to the funds? If so, how much: 25k... for now. I'm kind of owing somebody some pure at the moment and need to sell crap or finish some commissions. I'm more a donate-art person.

Why you want to be a helper: I am really thrilled to see someone actually DOING something about the dilemma between having creativity, but with no money. I am an active role player and I know how attached one gets to their characters and to be unable to artistically show them is very frustrating and unfair. And that's where I want to come in! ^^ I'm quite impartial and not a fluffer of words, so I think I'd be a fair judge.
Suggestions regarding the charity: I can't think of any right now... but I'll get back to you >__>;;
Would you donate to the funds? If so, how much: I have my own art shop and I would be more than happy to have a few auctions where a substantial chunk of the proceeds can go to this cause.

BRAINSTORMS: CHARITY

This post will be used to write down any ideas regarding the charity and how it shall run.

How to judge OCs:
OCs are graded on a scale of 1 to 10 for various categories, eg History, Originality, Character (more needed).
Scores from each Charity helper is averaged to a final score.
If the OC passes a certain percentile, maybe 70%, he/she gets a donation of maybe 5k? (need to discuss how much they get)
At the end of the month, all scores are compared and the OC with the highest becomes the Legend of the month and gets 10k? (again, discussion)

    Pricing: 15k for anything quality of product depends on inspiration to draw,. There be a catch, though - I don't work often. At all. I won't do more than three a month (usually, I'll probably do one), and that's when I'm feeling good. I'll be willing to draw as contests prizes or something - I'm more into filling my sketchbook w/ neat designs and characters I like rather than gaining gold.

    How long it takes for you to finish a commish: Chibis take me usually a few days and normal comissions.... depending upon how inspired I am, usually a week tops. I also go to school and have a job so that needs to be factored in as well.

    CHARITY THREAD MASCOT!

    Name: Mekrokhelys (Meh-croc-ca-liss)
    Current age: 178

    History:
    Legends say that the mighty serpent deity known as Acanthor the Endless often came down to mortal ground in the guise of a humanoid avatar. While the purpose for these visits was unknown, it was said that he once had an intimate relationship with a human female known as Natalya. The product of this was the being known as Mekrokhelys.

    Raised solely by Natalya (as Acanthor had no time for such trivial matters), Mekro was brought up as a human and thought himself one until his teenage years. Over time, he had developed a greenish tinge to his tanned complexion and his back was significantly harder than others.

    Finally, he got his mother to reveal the truth and upon his eighteenth birthday, he left home to find others who had the blood of gods running through their veins. Throughout his quest, he often returned home until Natalya finally passed away. After a month of grieving, he paid his last respects to his mother’s grave and never returned to his homeland. That was decades ago.

    Appearance:
    Due to him being a demi-god of sorts, time seemed to stop for Mekro around the age of forty. As such, he retains a relatively healthy physique and appearance, though he does get the occasional migraine from the excessive amounts of knowledge gained over the years.

    Appearance wise, he is slightly stockier than the average forty year old human, and stands at 5’11”. Mekro sports a completely bald head (not by choice mind you, it’s all about the genes) and has dark brown eyes with droopy eyelids. His jaw juts out slightly and he has a sharply chiselled chin. What really distinguishes him is his odd complexion; imagine a tanned brownish base tone, with an odd greenish hue all over. Another thing to note is his skin seems rather dry and is completely hairless.

    During his quest, Mekro finally met his father and his inborn ability to shapeshift was brought out. As fate would have it, his shifted form would be that of a huge turtle (roughly 9 feet in length). His head would sport many knobbly or horn-like protrusions, with two horns at the base of the skull facing sideways. Also, like a snapping turtle, his jaws are a lethal weapon and can snap shut with tremendous speed and force. Mekro’s shell is ridged with large, spiny scales and is a deadly defensive weapon. Lastly, he has a small, short tail which has thorn-like spikes at the end.

    Mekro likes to dress plainly, usually in dark greens or browns. He’s doesn’t care much about fashion as his clothes are ripped to shreds during a transformation.

    Personality:
    Mekro can often be found deep in thought and is generally quiet and reserved. While he would share his opinions if asked, he doesn’t interrupt conversations or correct people. Due to this, people find it hard to know what’s going on in his mind. He is very intelligent and readily absorbs any information, even if it IS trivial and unimportant.

    Another piece of his personality would be his easy-going nature and it is rare to see him angry. When he finally met Acanthor, his initial anger at him not being there through his childhood lasted a mere half-minute, switching to fascination at the possible knowledge he could gain from his god of a father.

    Lastly, Mekro is truly neutral in alignment, as he seems to live in his own world, doing what he thinks is right. Thankfully, his actions have always been guided by common sense, which probably has allowed him to live to his current age unscathed.

    Abilities:
    While passive in nature, it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t last in a fight. Mekro is a decent fist-fighter, a better grappler and possesses a good tolerance to pain. While he’s had no formal weapons training, he fights defensively and knows how to use a shield pretty effectively.

    If seriously threatened, he would resort to shifting into turtle form. Mekro would use his sheer weight and size to ram into opponents, impale them upon his spines, or snap off their limbs with his jaw. Of course, as a turtle, he isn’t very fast, so he mainly counter-attacks. But truth be told, he’d much rather avoid fights and hide in his shell in a little corner.
