He Who Changes the World: Ahd'ar'ohk

Ahd'ar'ohk is from my world of Ul-Zaorith; the world from which I write my novels and my Role Playing Game of the same name. He makes appearances in the books Legend of the Quill, Battle of Heroes, Making of Legends, Five-Point-Strong, and a few cameos in the Circle Series Books.

Ahd'ar'ohk is an Agrimon - that is to say the progeny of two different races. In his case his father was a Fudorian, and his mother a Briandynian.
The Fudorians (for all intents and purposes) look like humans. The males are about 6' to 6'4" and have a rich complexion akin to Spaniards. Their eyes come in blue, grey or brown, and their hair can be any shade of blond, black, brown or Irish orange. Their teeth, ears and build are very much like a caucasian European, and they live for about 70-80 years.
The Briandynians are - in contrast - small and slender and very androgynous. They have alabaster white skin that is slightly translucent and smooth like marble, with no follicles aside from their eyebrows, eyelashes and head hair. Their hair is either Swedish blond or white, and tends to be very thin and fine. Their eyes are large - far larger than a human's eyes - and glassy, like those of a Delfie Doll, and are green, purple or blue. Mismatched eyes are very common in the Briandynian people, are are considered beautiful. Their ears are narrow and tapered and their teeth are a series of small points called fanglets. Their limbs are frail and slender with very little muscle tone or meat to them, allowing for an airy-graceful movement. It is incredibly difficult to distinguish between the two genders, and the Briandynians themselves find gender rather irrelevant. They live for about 800-1000 years.
Ahd'ar'ohk is a beautiful example of what their races can offer. He has his father's skin, but his mother's pallor, his father's ears but his mother's eyes, his father's strength but his mother's grace. All in all, Ahd'ar'ohk is elegant, self-aware, demanding and confident to the point of being egotistical.

Basic Stats

Language: Ancient, (pronunciation: ADD-are-awk) Meaning: "He Who Changes the World"
Nickname: Ahddy, (Diar - but he'll kill you if you call him this and aren't Cerato)
Race: Agrimon (Fudorian-Briandynian Halfling)
Gender: Male
Age: Ahd'ar'ohk grew to the ripe age of 326 years old, the equivalent of our 38 years when he stopped his aging. As the brilliant Mage that he is, Ahd'ar'ohk sacrificed his soul to prevent a Prophecy's fulfillment and thrust himself into Limbo in order to await the time when he could prevent the outcome he had forseen. However, in splitting the layers of time and space to create the pocket of limbo that he manifested, Ahd'ar'ohk's soul was stripped from him and sent into the Chaos (The world of Ullen where the God Yolann kept his soul in trade). In that moment of breech and trade, Ahd'ar'ohk died and was risen, and his natural life ended. He never aged since that day, and in time he bargained for more than his soul to gain Godhood.
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 168 lbs
Hair: Silver, jaunty spiked, with a shock of bangs cutting diagonally down towards his left eye.
Eyes: Intense garnet, and sometimes more of a crimson when he is angered.
Ears: Ahddy has a bit of a curl to the upper cartiledge of his ears, causing them to 'overlap' a little. Please see the references to get this right, as I don't think I could explain it adequately if I tried.
Teeth: Ahddy has his mother's teeth. That is to say, a mouth full of fanglets. He hates his teeth though, and rarely gives an open-lipped smile, and indeed, does not let them show if he can help it.
Family: Agrimon are not kindly thought of, even today, but in the days when Ahd'ar'ohk was born, Agrimon children were often killed in their infancy or abandoned in the wilderness for whatever fate the Gods had in store for them. Ahd'ar'ohk was one of the latter. His parents abandoned him on the borders of the Ancient Lands and he was found there by the Yanir - the imp-like servants of the Northern Ancients who were then revered as Gods. He was adopted and raised by the God of Prophecy, Chene, and the Goddess of Magic, Vitellia. While not truly -related- to him, the God of Luck and Travel, Cerato manifested a new form shortly before Ahd'ar'ohk came to the Halls of the Gods, and decided to grow his life along side the foundling, and is ofter termed Ahd'ar'ohk's brother. While they have had many rivalries and arguments in the past, they are very close and will come to each other's aids even when it means disobeying the rules of Larix the God-King.
Hottonia: Ahd'ar'ohk's pendant, Hottonia is the soul of one of the Five Sisters. Long before Ahd'ar'ohk's birth, in the days of the settling of the mortals, five sisters of the mortals (then an early predescessor of the Fudorian and Ter'ays peoples) made a pilgrimage north to the Ancient Lands to worship the Gods. They dedicated themselves to the service of Chene and Vitellia and in return the Gods began to teach the mortals magic. Each of the sisters learned a different proficiency. Hottonia mastered Spell Casting. When the Demon Sarmin learned that the Gods were teaching the arts of Magic to the mortals, he was enraged and travelled north and killed the Five in their sleep. Distraught and angered, Chene saved their souls and trapped them in the five pendants he wore about his neck. These pendants were always seen about his neck until one day they were stolen. At the time no one knew who would do such a thing, but eventually Cerato sold them off to the mortals and in time they were lost. Chene dowsed to see if he could find them, and had a vision that someday the Five Sisters would be united with Five Great Heroes and they would lead them to history in the making. Convinced that the Sisters were meant for important destinies ahead in which they could guide heroes to Greatness, Chene let them go. Eventually, one of the pendants turned up in Ahd'ar'ohk's care, and he has worn her ever since.
The Stave of Runes: Ahd'ar'ohk's Stave is the item through which he weilds the majority of his casting. One of the stipulations of his returning to the living world was that since he ought to be dead, he must not make any ripples, and must not change any fates. Obviously, he broke this rule again and again. But, to make the pull of Manna Weave and Huskline less obvious to the Gods, Ahd'ar'ohk restricted all of his intense casting to be done through an object of power. This Stave is made of Redwood, a sacred tree that grows in the Garden of Thimfu - sacred to Larix the God-King. The raw wood was purchased by Bimear Eldan, a Fudorian Carpenter, and fashioned into the walking Stave it is now. The Stave was a gift to Bimear Sasharr, Eldan's younger brother for his coming-of-age birthday. Sasharr went on to becme Ahd'ar'ohk's greatest pupil, and was in fact the one who raised Ahddy back to the living world. The first thing Ahd'ar'ohk did when he was risen was to steal Sasharr's Stave, and made it his own. Sasharr consented and it has been Ahd'ar'ohk's ever since. The Physical Channeling limit to any physical object is 6 Runes. Any more than that and the amount of energy channeled through the object will cause it to rupture and explode. Ahd'ar'ohk carried 6 of the Ancient Runes on his Stave for many hundreds of years until the day he earned his Godhood, and used his divinity to protect the wood, enablling him to add another 2 Runes.



Ahd'ar'ohk is aloof and tries to distance himself from getting too emotionally attached to others because of the cruelty he was subjected to as a child. As an Agrimon, or halfling, he was largely disliked by the Briandynians he spent his youth with, and was disdained in Enverres where the Fudorians live.
For a great deal of time he was regarded with fear and obedience, as his immense power became widely known. By the time he was forced to retire from actively interferring with the world by Yolann, the Deity who had become obsessed with him, Ahd'ar'ohk's name was the most famous and well-known name in the world.
Later, when he enlisted the help of Caithnes, another legend, and the two fought for and attained their Godhood, Ahd'ar'ohk took the title of God of Heroes and Legends. Now he has a modest following of those determined to make a difference in the world, although Ahd'ar'ohk has smote a few who would try to obtain power from him for unjust reasons. In the sense of his Godhood, Ahd'ar'ohk is a lesser level god, on par with the Spirit Deities of the Tirivahni people, and is largely overlooked by some of the more potent or important deities. He is strong enough to resist the wiles of Yolann, and that is truly his only concern. Ahd'ar'ohk now lives with his life mate, Caithnes, and Caithnes' lover Ruunah on an uncharted island in the middle of the Anzan Ocean. He still meddles in mortal's affairs more than he should, and has two miracles and a plethora of spells he can still perform.

Example 6 okay, now THIS is the latest picture I've drawn. It's Ahd'ar'ohk casting the spell Artificial Wings, buuuuut, you can't see that because I haven't coloured it yet. When I do, I'll post the coloured version up too.
Example 7 This is a good picture of Ahddy and Caithnes sitting around at Ahddy's house. For those of you yaoi artists, feel free to draw these two together, as Caithnes is constantly trying to bed Ahd'ar'ohk...to little avail.
Ahddy Eye Candy...

This is Ahd'ar'ohk Healing Kathiz's back. Kathiz was a cursed First Born Muzina who lives with him now and again. Kathiz is one of the options for those who want to do a group picture.

This is a chibi pic of Ahd'ar'ohk with a little Caithnes-devil and Ruunah-angel. Caithnes has chocolate brown skin, rich golden hair and dark purple eyes. Ruunah has even darker brown skin, silvery white-gold hair and dark blue eyes. (They are both Suoro). For a not chibi version of Caithnes, see Example 7.

Q. I hate/can't draw robes. Do I -have- to draw him in robes?
A. Yeah. 'Cuz that's what he wears. If you wanna draw a funny chibi of him wearing some form of other clothing, feel free, but I'm judging on authenticity.

Q. What if we want more reference for the races he's a halfie of?
A. The Otherworlds Guild in my Guilds is home to a lot of information about Ul-Zaorith. There are some images in the Gallery there. If you want more references, please PM me.

Q. You don't have as many categories as other contests I've seen. Does this mean I can't enter other kinds of art?
A. No, it just means I don't have a set prize for that category. If you wow me with your screen-tones collage expressionist modernist piece, then wow me.

Q. Can I enter a collaberation with another artist?
A. Sure, if you'd like, but there will only be 1 prize for any one piece of art, so you'll have to fight over it on your own time.

Q.What do you mean you'll give people Art as a prize? No one does that!
A. Y'see, I'm actually pretty poor. The few items I have that are worth something I worked very long and hard to earn, so I'm not giving up those things. The only way I earn gold is from my art. I do commissions and work for a few breedables shops. Since people are pretty willing to pay me nice amounts for my skills, and since most artists on Gaia I know have many characters of their own, I thought you guys might want some free art in return.

Q. Is there an entry fee?
A. Absolutely NOT! I want everyone to be able to enter as many pieces as they want to, and not have to worry about how much money they've got.

Q. Can I donate items or gold to your jackpot?
A. Are you serious?? If so, boy can you ever! If you've got items/gold you don't really want or need, and would like to donate them to a good cause, please do! I'd like to give these artists some nicer prices than just gold and art.

Has been running since last October, and it's finally over!!
So now it's time to award prizes to the winning entries!

I'd like to thank everyone who entered, and all those who helped bump the thread, kept me company and generally helped out.

Now, I'm offering a selection of limited prizes for each category. So, if you see your piece selected, please choose a prize from the ones listed for your category! It would be best to PM me your preference, or wait until the ceremony finishes, or I'll likely lose track of who wanted what.

I'll also be typing up my reasoning for why I selected the pieces I did, so I would like it if there is no drama or bad feelings dragged through this.

I have a hard time explaining what Ahd'ar'ohk looks like because really all I can draw is anime/manga/fantasy type stuff, and he's really not an anime boy, he's a flesh person... So, Bravo, Freebird (Ray Draq) for getting the look pretty close without having an Ahd'ar'ohk photo reference.

When Reapersun won the Gaia art competition, I took a bold step and PMd her, asking her to take a look at my humble contest. She said she'd enter, just like a number of other artists who said they would and never did enter. When she turned out to be a super-friendly and nice person, and got a job arting for Gaia, I was really happy for her, and thought for sure she'd be way too busy to ever enter. When she actually did, my jaw hit the floor. This piece has drawn many deserved "wow"s from my friends.

When I started this Art Contest, I asked Enigmatic Phantasm to enter, and he said that he would. Then, the last day of the contest, when I was certain he'd forgotten, he entered this piece, and I think I had so many anurisms, they were only outnumbered by my orgasms. Well, where do I start on how much I love this picture? Enigma, you're only one who got his ears right! and the colouring style and the composition, and the background, and the entire peice as a work of art... I want to hang this on my wall at home. I hadn't seen anything from this new style of yours, but I definately want to commission you for a piece like this of Caithnes. So, uhm, if I need to pay you real monies to get it, so be it.
