INPUT NEEDED

User Image

This is an ongoing project that I started this summer and that I need to have completed by November 28. (well mostly I don't have my final presentation till Dec 13 so I plan on sneeking more in)

This is a rather large undertaking as I am not provided any class time to • do it. This project is also large as it encompasses 8 different characters, as well as 2d and 3d prospects.

User ImageI welcome all feedback, but please try to post helpful criticism. I do present my progress weekly in a class, but due to a lack of feedback I thought a thread might help as well.

•What Exactly I'm Doing•

I first designed 8 characters. Each •character will be modeled and rigged in 3d Studio Max. Each character will also be done as a 2d media piece (IE paint or ink or whatnot).

•Why I'm Doing This•

I picked this intense character design and development as my senior project. This way I get forced practice in both 3d and 2d. As well as practice in simply designing characters that I feel are somewhat diverse and worth while.

•Why Are You Posting About It•

I need feedback. I have recieved very little in class. Remember they are being done in 3d as well as 2d so design elements must be able to carry over to both. But I welcome all feedback. Even if you don't know any 3d programs I still apprecate some good C&C. How else am I supposed to learn unless through doing.

•Why 8 Characters•

There were going to be 9 but then I dropped it to 8 to make it more feasable. There are 2 "Others", 3 humans, and 3 monsters.

•Will You Do My Characters•

N o. I already have a set number of characters.

•Can I Use The Things You Post•

I don't see why you would but please don't. These are my WIPs not final images. If for some reason you would like to use an image when I am finished please pm me. I'm usually fine with my stuff being used if I'm informed about it and approve of it's use. 3nodding
•Currently Working On•

...Forestdweller, 3D. I've modeled the body. Her hands, and feet as well. My next task will be to do her head, ears and hair.

...Forestdweller, 2D. I need to do a 2D piece to go with it. I'll be posting her design. Please feel free to check out her post as well as the other characters.

•Trouble I'm Having•

...Fur. That's right fur. I can get the tool to work fine for hair, but to modify it well enough to act as fur seems futile. Apparently the brush tool is the cause as a number of people have mentioned in problem forums.

...Crashing. I seem to crash 3D studio Max fairly often. At least once a session for me. Usually it's a result of the hair tool but even when I'm modeling a rather simple piece it will still freeze, or some of the tools will stop working. I have narrowed it down to the boggled, and slow computers.

...Necromancer design. I don't want a D&D necromancer. Real necromancers were those, usually of some upper class, who sought to contact the dead to learn from them. Many of the necromancers were actually men of the clothe who did it in secret. However tools such as Tarot cards, and Ojiwibi boards were also used. So I guess any fortune teller might count as well.

•Input Welcome•

...Any design, or whatever input is welcome.
Any concept designs on: Jabberwocky, Forestdweller, Necromancer, and Windigo would be loved. I'll try to get the concept art up soon.

Any 3d modeling/skinning/or rigging tips or advice would be loved.

Any bios or names people think up for any of the characters is always welcome. I intend to give people credit in my presentation but am looking for really any input. 3nodding heart

.:Character Description:.
In the upperclass of European society there rests a secret following. Necromancy was the art, or then considered science, of communicating with the dead, or other spirits. ((This is my design of a Jabberwocky, which is not as all like the commonly excepted design. I would love some feedback on it))
Rendering Enviroment/Other

That's right I'll need to find time to model an enviroment to render the models in.

Have any ideas that might look cool feel free to post them.
I'm saved in case needed later.
