The below rules have been sanctioned by Bakura and will wind up in the post on the front page, but I figured I'd post them here for those of us who are already active in the thread. We haven't figured out a 'warning' system yet, because honestly, there's not much we can do here on Gaia beyond 'warn' -> 'block' -> 'report to Gaia staff', but these rules are pretty much common sense. And also a little bit overdue. They'll likely get tweaked, and if you've got suggestions for them, feel free to contact me or Bakura about them.
✖ Do not violate the Gaia ToS. You will get the banhammer. This obviously includes ‘don’t cyber’.
✖ Bumping, begging, and trolling are also not okay. The perpetually obvious exception, of course, being if Gaia mysteriously comes up with a golden pyramid necklace. Don't let Bakura fool you by suddenly getting cozy if you have one.
✖ Don’t be an a*****e to the other people in here, unless it’s clearly a matter of being in character. Nobody in this thread should expect Mariku to be nice to them. While the character accounts spend a good deal of time out of character, these are still character accounts.
✖ Do not make attacks on the people in this thread. The exception to this is when it’s in character and in jest. If Light Yagami shows up and threatens to kill you for some petty offense because you’re a useless idiot who’s unfit to live? It's Light Yagami. Boy has a Death Note. Do the math.
✖ Leave your unfunny personal vendettas at the door, ‘cause we don’t want them. Period.
✖ Under no circumstances are you to bring drama into the thread. If you had a bad day? Awesome, we feel your need to vent about it. You’re welcome to lament what went wrong in your life as long as it doesn’t have to do with anyone on Gaia. (There is, of course, an exception if for some ungodly reason your parents have Gaia accounts.)
✖ If you are venting about someone, do not link to their off-site profile, drop their name, e-mail address, IM SN, or any other information that people could use to rise up against them out of the blind desire to support your side. Much like 4chan, this thread exists to be one of the many sources of Internet Cancer; nobody here is supposed to be your personal white knight. Ever.
✖ Keep your passive-aggressive bullshit to yourself. If someone in the thread is harassing you off-site and is making vague allusions to it, dropping hints and generally being snide, and they’re making you uncomfortable or are otherwise upsetting you or trying to alienate you from the thread, tell Bakura or Malik. One of us will look into it, and there will be warnings and/or banning as a direct result.
✖ This thread is going to contain in-and-out-of character sniping. Do not take it personally. If Bakura tells you to die in a fire, or Mariku tells you to get bent? Odds are they’re not serious. If a Kaiba starts calling you a black foreigner and demands you get out of his office? It’s meant to be funny. This thread is for the lulz. If you’re genuinely offended, speak up, you’ll likely get an apology and the sniping will stop. Not everyone finds us funny; if this is the case for you, let us know, we’ll try to curb it within reason.
✖ On the topic of funny/unfunny humor, keep in mind the characters you’re dealing with. If you’ve got severe issues with jokes about patricide, genocide, murder, torture, or for some ungodly reason feel the need to protect the pharaoh with your life? You probably won’t like it here.
