Team Five: Raeith and Astaroth

Frigoris's Partner

Enduring Muse

This door opens out into... the woods?

Yes, it's an evergreen forest, with the stars overhead through the pine branches. The door is set into a very thick tree trunk, and closes once both Fa'e are through; beyond the door there's a wall of brambles so thick that it might as well be an impenetrable barrier.

It's pretty, though, and there seem to be only normal night noises.
After informing their host of his choice, Astaroth lead Raeith over to the second door. He wondered if it were indeed true that even if teams left through the same door they would arrive in different places. It must take some incredible amount of magic to perform such a feat - and Ms. Devan just happened to have it in her library.

Well, even if this venture didn't give any more answers, hopefully it would at least provide entertaining.

The demon lowered Raeith's arm and instead slipped a hand into hers so they would not be seperated by the magic of the door. Shooting their host one last weighing glance, Roth stepped through the door.

EDIT: Emerging into some kind of forest, Roth wasn't surprised to find the door disappear behind them. "Shall we explore?" he asked Reith.
A memory sparked for Raeith - they'd held hands at the beach party, too, when they were younger. Ah, those carefree days - what an unlikely pair of friends they made! "I'm certainly game for exploration."

With a smile, she followed as Roth led, peering through the dark woods and hmming at the brambles. "How far do you suppose these go - and are they keeping us out, or something in?"

A gingerly gentle hand reached out to touch the brambles, testing both for reality and thickness, to feel what kind of plant this is.

((Do they extend on all sides around them or just in front?))

((Just behind where the tree is. Everything else is clear and open; you have three directions in which to go.))

The brambles are most definitely real, thick and woody. The branches deeper in look coated with pretty big thorns, too.
"Are we the predators or the prey?" Roth paraphrased, amused. "I suppose only time will tell..."

Normal night sounds filled the air, so he supposed they were safe enough. Birdlife tended to go quiet if something dangerous or unusual was on the move, after all.

A ball of Hellfire grew above and behind Roth's shoulder, providing extra light. Even with it, Roth could not see an end to the brambles behind them. Shrugging, he turned back around. "Shall we take the obvious direction of 'forwards', then?"

The light automatically attracts moths.

Only a few at first, but eventually more and more. WAY more than you'd expect, although they stay in the air around the flame and don't land on either of the Fa'e.
Rae blinked at the moths. "Goodness - I have a feeling tonight will be full of ... surprises." She waved a hand to clear the air directly in front of herself. "Forward it is then - Though perhaps we shoudl go by the light of the garden until we need a closer look at things? Though I suppose as long as they stay up there and we're not inhaling them, extra light would be nice.

She kept her hand in his as they moved, as if she were afraid to be on her own.

((*ninja edits*))
"Perhaps, indeed," Roth agreed, glaring at the mass of moths attracted to his Hellfire. He let the flames dissipate. A shudder ran through him at the possibility of attracting a larger number of larger-sized insects the longer he used that particular ability.

Golden cat-slit eyes immediately adjusted to the lesser light given off by stars and solar bodies. Keep a gentle hold of Raeith's hand, he moved forward, determined to explore as far in this direction as they could until something else of interest caught their eye.

Luckily they weren't in any rush.

Indeed, there is a bit of light. Here and there are paper lanterns in the Oriental fashion, maybe one to a tree, every four or five trees. They don't seem to be along any distinguishable path, though.
Rae craned her neck at the lanterns, just out of interest, then began to look along the path, the trees. "Do you suppose we're looking for something in particular? It's liek takign a peaceful walk.. with moths."

Her smile sparkled in teh dark, but she kept her eyes peeled for anythign of interest.
The decorations amused Roth. "They must have know we were coming." Oriental appropriateness aside, it's nice to know they have alternate light. Roth peers closer in the darkness, trying to see if these lanterns attracted the same strange amount of moths as his Hellfire had...

He continued to walk forward, hoping they were managing to keep in a fairly straight line.

A faint splashing reaches their ears after a bit; light glints off of water in the distance to the left.

The moths are, notably, NOT attracted to the lanterns.
"I don't doubt that the lady has special talents that might account for the appropriateness. At least, according to what you say. If she isn't human, than she may well have magic." Rae considered this for a moment as she looked around. "Though, if I see any leaping Chinese dragons or shrines, that guess will be fairly certain"

((*ninja edits again*))

Raeith pointed in teh direction of the water. "Should we see what that is? It might be good to ahve a landmark to help with our bearings."
The demon laughed, though his usual mocking tones were softened somewhat for Raeith's sake. "If making library doors lead to strange outside places isn't magic, then I'm not sure what is."

Wondering if it's Hellfire in particular or perhaps just plain magic that the moths are drawn to, Roth reminds himself to experiment later. For now, he nods to Raeith and they move towards the water. Perhaps finding whatever is making the splashing will give them further insight as to whether they were in a normal Gaian forest, or somewhere other inhabit by dragons or somesuch as Raeith had joked about.
