The Mafia: Lethe, Xochitl, Dustin, Callix
Lethe cracked the door open and poked her head in, waiting to see if anything growled back and possibly bit it off. When nothing of the sort immediately greeted her, she opened it more fully and stepped inside, waving for the other three to follow her.

This..would be an interesting experience, to say the least -- not only trying to get through the Game, however it may end up playing out, but also keeping her team from killing one another. Sigh.

"I'll lead, if you want," she offered, "If I get eaten, don't follow."

Inside there's low light, and some torches near the doorway - the rest seems to be pretty clammy. Every sound echoes, most especially the sound of the door closing and locking behind you, and the sounds of the party shutting off as abruptly as if someone hit a cosmic mute button.

It looks, at first sight, like a cave. The air is dry and you can hear dripping coming from the darkness at the end of the stone-walled room.
Xo huffed after Lethe into the dank room, her tail nearly whipping, lashingly, every child in the face.

"Oh hey," she was muttering, almost inaudibly, to herself. "Say, hey, nyer, we are in a team as well, thank you! Thank you! I'll thank you, crummy little ocuilin. I'll thank you right in your stupid - "

She stopped short, her tail hesitating mid-swipe before giving a shuddery, quizzical twitch.

"I knew it was too clean," she said grimly, after a moment of consideration. "That other room it was too too clean. Look at the rest of her house." She lifted up a foot and peered at the bottom of it. "Ick."
Slipping momentarily on one of the sleeves of her jacket, Dusty toddled along after Lethe. She wasn't entirely clear on what was happening, but it felt like it was a grand adventure in its very beginning.

And stupid Arrien had made her leave her sword behind. PAH.

"Lyaath, wait!" She spoke out, skittering in front. "Lemme." Lethe, for all the great warrior that Dusty assumed she was, still did not seem the sort that should go in front, after all. The dangerous task of forging the path ahead should be left to the strongest of the group, which was clearly her own self.

The door's sudden closing gave a burst of wind hat rushed up Callix's pant legs, poofing them up. That was itchy. Shaking his head, the incubus noted how dark it was, and absently grabbed one of the torches for light. Xo was a bit further ahead of him, and it looked as though everyone else was in the room.

It looked - and stank - just like a cave. "Look Xo, we've found your room!"

Of course, that was stupid to say, especially in front of her, but dammit, he had FIRE.

The torch slides downward in its holder before Callix gets it loose. It makes an odd clanking sound matched by a metallic noise from the darkness, and then a grinding. Sounds like something opened up.

There's a sudden cool breeze.
Lethe immediately shot Callix a death glare. "If I have to deliver Xo back to her home and guardian all bloody, I will be most displeased." To say the least -- Xo looked as if she would cost a fortune to dry-clean.

To Dustin, she nodded and slowed down, only too-happily relinquished the position of path-forger (getting eaten was not too high up on her list of things to do, honestly.) "Be careful though, if there are any scary things with teeth, dive behind Callix so he gets eaten first."

When Xo managed to catch up with her, she mumbled guiltily in the way a child would when caught dropping dishes off the top floor balcony, "Sorry, I hoped this would be fun." A little more loudly she said, "We are training ourselves to be strong in the face of adversar--" click. grind. enter cool breeze. "--EEEEH OH HADES I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"
AT Callix's comment, Xo swelled so severely that it briefly appeared that she was having some sort of allergic reaction. She inhaled deeply, allowing Lethe's hand(s) to fall.

She swung around where she stood, her fists clenched, and considered snarling, "Hey look Tlatla, I found your a**!" but realized stealth would be the way to go.

She pulled back a leg, which alarmingly threatened to knock a new hole in Callix's hindquarters, or at least sting like a mother for a few moments.

Luckily for Callix, that very moment there was a soft grinding sound in the muffled near-distance, and she hesitated, her mouth relaxing, replacing her foot on the clammy floor.

She lifted her nose, and sniffed twice.

"Did you hear that?" she demanded, unnecessarily, all homicidal tendencies pushed aside for now in favor of new, smelly developments. "It has made everything smell different. Ish. That way." She did an incoherent little gesture with her fingers toward the direction from which the sound had come.

The breeze smells fresh and clean. There's cool stone scent, and plant scent. Nothing animal, nothing rank.
... What.

This was Lethe? This was the smartest girl she'd ever known, the best and wittiest and best-talking lady she'd considered important enough to try and name even when she was a little baby... telling her to run and hide if a monster shows up and screaming at a few little noises?

Dusty certainly couldn't say she was disappointed. In fact, most of her respect for the River Fa'e had just been shattered, perhaps irrevocably so. It hadn't helped much that Lethe had probably been her closest role model to date.

Her orange eyes caught the firelight perfectly as she gave Lethe the most disgusted look she'd ever managed in her toddler existence, snorting faintly as she moved forward to explore the darkness from which the breeze wafted, fearlessly leading off to the direction in which Xo had indicated with her ears pricked high as they could to catch any noises that might lead her better to where the air was moving from.

She was not scaredy-scared ascared, after all.

Wincing and scrunching up to take the kick, Callix was very relieved to find Xo distracted. Sighing, he watched as a new room opened up, the disgusting clamminess of the cave gone. Thank GOD. Who knew what that could do to someone's hair.

It was still dark, though, which bothered him. Luckily Xo had a keen sense of smell. But hating to be useless, Callix grabbed another torch (this one hopefully not being some super secret switch or something) to light the way.

"So what do we do now? Move forward?" he asked, hoping the torch would keep lit long enough to be useful.
Lethe immediately forced herself to untense, wincing at the faint echo of her own voice. Geezus. Well, that was not a good way to get attention. She caught Dustin's glare out of the corner of her eyes, and contemplated it for a second, poking her tongue into her cheek. Oh geez, someone really oughta tell Yani about the eyes-glow-y thing, surely that couldn't be healthy.

"...Yeah, um." Her voice fell flat, but she was too busy thinking back to Xo's gesture to notice. "That-a-way." She trudged off in what she hoped was the right direction.

The second torch is indeed perfectly normal.

As the Fa'e move forward, they find a pool of water on the other end of the room with stepping stones to get across. On the other side is a dark hole with what looks like... the top of a slide?

Yep. It's a slide, going down into the dark. The air is blowing up the passage. The breeze here threatens to blow out the torches.
"Forward," Xo said sulkily. "Forward, forward -" She tripped, blinking, startled, into the dark, and shot Callix nasty look number forty six for the evening. His torch was interfering with her sight's ability to adjust to the low light-level.

"Put that stupid thing out already," she snapped. "Sheez. I can't see a stupid thing with it all wavery with the light all over everything."

She turned forward just in time to cut abruptly short and avoid a splash, with a grunt that had almost been a squeak. Xo paused at the edge of the pool and peered into it with a look of disdain.

"Huh," she said. She dipped a toe in.
