So in working with profiles, I've come up with a pretty good list to go with my other guide. This is not meant to be a stand-alone guide, unless you already know how to use Old School CSS. This guide is strictly designed to show you the basics of theme translation

Old School System == v2 System

body == html

#extendedProfileBody #header h1 == #header

.section == .panel

.section h2 == .panel h2

#content == #columns

#content #main == #column_2

#content #sidebar == #column_1

#multimedia embed == .media_panel embed

#profile .items == .equipped_list_panel

#wishlist == .wish_list_panel

#multimedia == .media_panel

#signature == .signature_panel

#profile == .details_panel

#friends == .friends_panel

#journal == .journal_panel

#about == .about_panel

#comments == .comments_panel





With the different panels, however, I recommend using something different. Dig through source code to find the unique panel number for the block you want to customize... this also makes it harder for people to rip your code off, because it's one more thing they've got to find and change.

In the source code, every block starts with a line like this:

<div id="panel_7519695" class="panel custom_panel">

The first part is the unique panel number, and the second is the general panel class.

What I did with my profile was search for a word that was in the header of the block I wanted to alter, and then a few lines above it, I'd see a line similar to my exmaple.

So my ID would then be #panel_7519695 with the sample I used above. And you can use that the same way you'd use #profile or #about in the old school profiles, attaching things like li, a:link, img, whatever to the end of it.

Do you use firefox? If so, you should go to my profile and then to my links section and click the "Web Developer's Toolbar" link

It's a great way to "edit" your css right in the browser so before you even pop the code into your profile, you know what it should look like, at least in Firefox xd

Meh, I think old school is easier... not so much to think about... I might make a new school profile, but I'll probably stick with old school... I'm just more comfortable with its coding...

I actually found v2 coding easier xd

alot of the things I do to my old school profile are already built into the v2 system... like, I don't have a mile long line of sections that all have the "display:none;" attribute xd
