:: Do NOT post in this journal without my permission! Currently, only those who own BTWs are allowed to post here. And even then, I'd prefer the posts to be roleplaying.

:: If you have a gift, please either PM it or wait until there is a lull in the Storytelling to drop it off in thread. Remember, this all takes places in Ye Olde Tymes, so any items or gifts must fit into that time frame. 'n other words folks, no Cell Phones, iPods and the like.

:: If your BTW characters are roleplaying with mine in here, please for the love of pudding cups put some MEAT into your posts. I want something I can react and play off of. And it's really hard to do that when you only give me one bloody sentence...

:: And whilst we're on the subject of roleplaying, do NOT god-mode, twink, chatspeak, etc. I want, crave and enjoy literate roleplay.

Muted, green-gold sunlight streamed from holes in the tree canopy above, illuminating a small child and turning her dark brown hair the color of aged bronze. She sat quite alone, thin arms wrapping around an equally thin body, trying to stay warm and trying to not cry. The thatcher's wife had told her that the monsters came quicker if you cried. There had been a muttered promise of a hefty slap if she'd so much as sniffled as well. Once she'd been left alone in the forest, they'd hurried away, making warding signs against the evil that dwelled in the forest.

Shesha didn't know know why Mommy and Daddy had gone away. She only knew that the thatcher's wife had appeared that morning, looking angrier than usual and had hauled the tiny girl away from her playmates. There'd been only a small lull, then she'd been brought here and left. Maybe Mommy and Daddy had decided to move into the forest and that's why Murilla had been so mad. Except... why would they have moved to where the monsters lived? All Shesha knew was that they were gone and she'd been left to be monster food.

The tiny girl couldn't help crying now. She missed her small room and the comforting warmth of her mother's arms and her father's cheery smile.

*****

A small, slim silver otter did a series of loop-de-loops in the air, small wings flapping frenetically. Flying was fun, but it didn't really make up for the lost feeling he still experienced when he was by himself. His holt had turned him out. Him! Just because his mother had produced him. A creature, that should by rights, never have existed. He still wasn't quite sure how or why he was half hummingbird. But, all things considered, he was grateful he had, at least, been spared the spear for a beak.

He skimmed towards the ground, curious as he saw a tiny parade of lit torches hurrying back towards the village that he knew was at the eastern-most edge of the forest. He knew for a fact that humans didn't really come into the forest. And when they did, it certainly was never such a deep intrusion as this appeared to be. Spurred on by curiosity, the little otter-bird winged his way towards the area he thought they were rushing from.

As Tanuja drew nearer, he thought he could hear disconsolate sobbing coming from the ground. Zooming in for a landing, he tucked his iridescent wings neatly into his side and went to explore. Before he could go very far, his keen eyes made out a small, shaking form. He knew in a vague sort of way it was a human. But he'd never known they came in such a tiny size. Really, it wasn't that much bigger than him. He couldn't distinguish much about it other than the long fur on its head. And something about the scent suggested a female specimen. Edging closer, he could catch a soft glint of tears running down her face, the drops turned to diamond in the fading light.

Tanuja remembered the little hurrying lights he'd seen going from this place and felt anger flare up in his breast. Those two-leggers had left this tiny, delicate thing alone in the forest! Granted, nothing in here would really hurt her. At least, not on purpose... but still! His own holt had at least been decent enough to let him reach early adulthood before tossing him unceremoniously out.

Edging even closer, feeling inexpilicably drawn to this small, suffering kit, he reached her side and gently bumped his head against one of the hands covering her eyes. He was pleased and relieved that she didn't scream or try to back away. Instead, the hands lowered and tear-bright eyes regarded him solemnly.

"Muh... monster...?"

Tanuja marveled for a moment that he could understand her odd noises. But then, hadn't one of the holt elders once noted that there was very little difference between human children and beasts as far as communication went?

"Hush now, liddle kit," he growled soothingly. "Come on, dry those pretty eyes. No monsters here..."

He continued to speak in low, calming tones, pleased when she wiped the back of a grubby hand against her nose and wobbled onto her feet. She couldn't be very old he thought. How could those heartless two-leggers have done such a thing?

"Come on, liddle matey, follow me. I'd carry you, but you're too big. I'll take you to my cave. It'll be nice and dry there. You can sleep. I'll protect y'from the monsters..."

He continued to coax softly, careful to keep a pace she could follow on her chubby little legs. They paused often that night so she could rest. And always he was at her side, his small, furry body pressing warmly against her side, always encouraging.

When they finally reached his cave near the waterfall, he showed her the secret entrance that would keep her dry. And once inside, he pulled and pushed dried leaves and vines into a nest for her. Curling up inside, he nodded her over.

"Come and sleep, little kit. You'll be safe here. Always. I promise."

:: Description - Tanuja is very much still a novice when it comes to being immortal. The slim, silver male was forced from his holt the moment they judged him able to fend for himself. He made his way to the Forest and rapidly accepted immortal life in return for sterility. To his way of thinking, better to be sterile than risk siring a kit who would have a difficult life.

:: On Shesha - She's so adorable and willing to learn. She just soaks up love like a sponge. What were those two-leggers thinking deserting her like that?
