// Look out for random in-thread games (most of which will be free!)
exclaim The first poster on pg. 3,000 will win a free semi-custom colored by Leef. O:

01/23/11 - Announcements remain on p. 2762 and 2765. Please continue to direct any old Malu owners you see to our "MISSING MALU?" thread. Things will continue to be rearranged and organized here until Tues is happy. FOR NOW: DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO PAGE 2! We've put up a staff search. The advertising event will be up later today, with prizes. :>
01/18/11 - FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS: click here. I'm trying to collect information on any Malu that need to be colored, certed or whathaveyou. So please click the "MISSING MALU?" link thar to take yourself on over to the guild. Expect a hiring post to be thrown up soon! I'll will probably be doing it in-thread rather than making an entire new thread for it, just to keep everything here and keep the thread moving. I'll keep you posted!
01/16/11 - Oh my gosh! Tues, here. Leef has handed the baton off to me. I'll be sure to keep you guys posted as I get all my ducks in a row. Keep your eyes peeled! I have some things to get used to, and possibly some hiring to do, but you'll surely see some fun stuff soon!
07/26/08 - There is now a Cert Pick-ups thread and a Mini-shops subforum in the guild. Also, some special new Malu have appeared on pg. 2654, and there may even be more lurking in the shadows of the temple. You never know, right? In addition to this, RL commissioning will be available soon. Keep your eyes peeled!
As for IC news, you can now apply for your Malu to become alphas of the Nature, Love, and Revelry packs, or have them start their own bands of rebel Malu. Hopefully this will allow you access to more exciting plot opportunies. :3 See the newly updated 'Starting a Pack' information on the first page for more details. For details on the Rivalry Pack situation, see this plot thread.
07/4/08 - Leefy here. Over the next few days, I will be working hard on the guild, and will hopefully get everything organized and spiffed up again. The new Plot Recruitment subforum marks the beginning of the spiffing. Go check it out. O:
Also, a flatsale is scheduled for July 18th. It consists of four baby Malu colored by tani duh! at the moment, but there is a possibility of more. The previews are up! Stay tuned. ;3 ... But if that doesn't float your boat, I have opened two custom slots as well. <3
Lastly, I am considering taking a new co-manager. If qualified (experience, shop activity, acquainted with Leefy, and AIM doesn't hurt, either) and interested, PM my main account (spottedleef). Thank you. <3
03/17/08 - There are new threads in the guild! Please welcome theeee;
-- Certing Request and Pick-up Thread!
-- Growings Thread!
...and;
-- Suggestions Thread!
We will be leaving the old threads that were in the guild for these things there for a week, then we'll be removing them from the guild! If you have info in any of those threads that you might need, I suggest you grab it now, while you still can! 8D
03/17/08 - Shop is slowly getting back on it's feet! Leefy and Rei are working on growings that are owed, and Rei will be working on certings once everything gets finished up! She will be creating a certing thread, in the guild, so that everyone who wants the cert for their Malukelb can post there, with all the info!
So be on the lookout for that!
And also, Rei and Leefy are working on fun little in-thread games and events, to get the shop moving again! <33
11/24/06 - Many thank yous to everyone who applied to create the Malukelb temple! Leef has now decided on a person. <3 Faraway is going to be making the temple, because she has an excellent design and is an amazing landscape artist. Congratulations to her, and the many other applicants! I appreciate everyone's willingness to help. <3
Also; as suggested, we now have a section in the guild for Malu questors.
11/20/06 - As you all know, spottedleef and ipod are going to do an African animal-based auction, aswell as Reityn, who will guest color. 8D Expect this and other possible events this week, while Leef's on break. xd
There are new rules in the guild, and I would appreciate if you all read them. We have also added the petitioning system in the guild. If you are a Malukelb-newbie, check it out! It may be well worth your time. ;D
Regarding customs, we are keeping our eyes open for peoples' quests to come to a close. Whenever there seems to be a good amount of people ready to buy a custom, we'll give a date. =) There may also be new ways to get a custom, depending on whether I can get a hold of Rejam. x3 Stay tuned. 8D
9/14/06 - Apparently Leef and I forget to update this post! The guild is under heavy construction and with a big push, we should be able to at least open it within the next couple of days. ^^
8/9/06 - We have opened! =O The thread is still in serious construction, but hopefully I can have everything looking nice by tonight. ;3 Until then, look out for some random give-a-ways. <3

-~- Do not steal.
This includes lineart, Malu/Puku, graphics, storyline/idea, and anything further owned by or distributed by the Malukelb shop and its owners.
-~- Do not claim credit where it is not due.
In other words, if you are not an owner, manager, shop-mod, artist, or colorist, you have no right to claim authority or sell Malu.
-~- Don't spam up my thread. D:
Classy spam is allowed; unclassy spam is not. By classy, I mean posting smilies, bumps, or just being random. XD However, being obnoxious with your spam and over-doing it is looked upon as bad spam, and we would prefer to keep it out of the thread. Serious chatspeak ( ex: "wooh i likz yor shopitz reely awezomez!!11!1" ) is considered bad spam, as well as advertising of any kind.
-~- Please, do not run off with a Malu and never return.
We put a lot of effort into these pets, and want them to go to people who will stop by every once and a while. If you think you are uncapable of doing this, please let another person have a chance at owning a Malu.
-~- Keep your uncerted Malu at a decent size
that will not stretch pages, cut out, go against size limits, etc. when in your siggy.
-~- Respect and obey the orders of all staff members.
-~- Keep bickering out of the thread.
If you have a problem with someone, take it elsewhere.
-~- Do not godmode.
Godmoding means having your characters do things that are unrealistic in serious roleplay, such as a cat picking up a boulder with its tail. Not going to happen.
-~- Do not roleplay or otherwise use other peoples' pets without permission.
Pretty self-explanatory.
-~- Do not whine.
I cannot stress this enough. Whining or repetitively pestering staff members will not get you Malu, nor will it get things done faster. Patience is key.
-~- Do not edit the lines.
This includes coloring over or adding markings/items to a Malu without a staff member's permission.

~ If someone has repeatedly disregarded these rules or has gone to extremes of violating them (such as causing complete havoc in the shop), the staff has the right to ban said person from the Malukelb thread and guild and/or refuse to sell any future pets to that person.
~ I reserve the right to edit, delete, or add rules at any time.

There are stories about this place.
They say, long ago, that the religious leaders from all the warring nations of the desert countries came together in peace to create one place on neutral territory where all could worship--some place that could remain immune to the constant threat of being burnt in sacreligious fire to the ground by invading soldiers. They built a temple. This temple, its courtyards and towers and places of prayer branching out from a central fountain fed by some vast underwater spring.
It was, in its prime, a sprawling place: the marble terraces stretched on and on until the heat haze blurred them into the horizon, and the turrets climbed in gilded splendor towards the cloudless skies, and always, always the smell of incense and the sound of prayer, to a dozen, a hundred different gods, the constant murmur of belief.
And so, they say, the gods came here, fed by their believers, growing fat and complacent on the sacrifices and the prayers, nameless and formless but always believed in. Until, that is, the wars sharpened outside the temple walls, and it became just another sanctuary, a place to hide from the arrows and the violence. The people came to believe in nothing but trying to survive, and so they forgot their gods.
The people are gone, now. No one knows where they went or if perhaps they died, only that the temple was left standing with gold and incense still heaped around nameless altars. The people forgot their gods, and the people left, but the gods stayed behind, shrinking in, shriveling.
But gods never truly die. Belief may feed them and the lack of it may leave them feeble, but echoes and shadows of gods remain, and they clung to the walls of the temple as the centuries passed and it fell into ruin, the magnificent towers half-crumbled and the stone walls fallen in, although the fountain still splashed in defiant vigilance, feeding a tiny, overgrown thicket of thirsty plantlife. And eventually, the Malu found it.
They were simple beasts, then: no more intelligent or insightful than a dog, just animals, propelled on instincts. They found the temple, with its water-giving fountain, and its many secure places for nests and dens, and they made it their own, the pack settling down and living on the plants and insects that flourished in the central courtyard and underground in the old, forgotten cellars.
But years passed, and the Malu changed as the small gods in a tumultous rush found cracks in their minds and slipped in and, one by one, discovered what made the Malu minds function. The animals flourished, but as generations came and went, they became aware of the forgotten gods, a presence no easier to deny than the presence of a leaf or a stone. And as their spirits strengthened, so did their minds. They developed sophisticated speech, compassion, valour, justice. They discovered the idea of games and gambling and dancing and song. They told stories. They mapped stars.
And, irresistibly, they found gods. The gods no longer had names or faces. They were simply concepts: the old and strong like love, fear, war, courage, winter, summer; the older and weaker: gods of wind through high grass and the cold sides of dunes at night. Hundreds, thousands of shapeless ideas. The Malu found by the time they were old enough to speak that they were inevitably drawn to some enormous, shapeless presence. They were followers, now, believers; in the shadows of the great towers and the heat of the desert the Malu and their gods thrived.
Eventually the Malu noticed a strange thing: as one god's followers became stronger in number, their world tilted to reflect it. A brash young follower of the god of winter tempted young and easily-swayed to his own faith, and as he did so, the days waned shorter and the air took on the sharp taste of frost. In response, a slick and cunning Malu, a follower of the goddess of spring, talked others into his own alliance, and the world tipped into chaos as snowy nights battled with the sun's heat during the day and as frost bit back the new flowers that determinedly forced themselves up each morning. Malu strayed from the paths of their own faith simply to join one side or the other in an effort to set the temple back into order. What began as desperate competition escalated into scuffles and then into battles and assassinations, and then into fullscale warfare as new alliances and rivalries formed and new cabals attempted to come to the fore.
And as the god of war grew fat on his sacrifices, the killing continued, until the numbers of the Malu dwindled, and until a group of eight old, old Malu, unswayed in their faith, came together to the survivors and stood between the beaten front lines and said: this must stop.
They explained the need for balance. They pointed to the wreck and ravage around them. The followers of the gods of mediation and peace stepped forward and, on a day when spring and winter and laughter and tears had all been vying for control of the temple, the Malu laid the war aside, and strayed, prodigal, back to their own gods.
Not one of the Malu alive today are old enough to remember that war: it survives in story and history as a lesson. The eight old Malu had formed the Coalition that remains in place to this day, a new member elected to fill a spot when one passes on, and this group of mediators is the closest thing the Malu have to a governing body and a justice system. By and large, they have not needed one.
But history turns in great circles, some larger, some smaller, and in the shadows and dark places of the temple, voices whisper: if you join me, we will both be stronger...
And some of the Malu listen.

Infant -
Infants can speak, although not very clearly, and can wobbly walk; basically like a toddler.
Child -
Children are your natural children... wild, mischievous pups that get into tons of trouble.
Adult -
The children have now grown into adults, and may have pups of their own. :3

Q: What do you call these pets?
A: The shop is called Malukelb, but the pets are simply called 'Malu.'
Q: When referring to multiple pets, do I say 'Malus' or 'Malu'?
A: Malu is the plural of Malu, just like one fish or many fish are still called 'fish', either way.
Q: Why is the shop named 'Malukelb'?
A: In Swahili, a Malu is a type of gazelle, and 'kelb' means 'dog'. We thought combining the two was a fitting name for the shop, since the pets greatly resemble a gazelle-dog hybrid.
Q: Are there other creatures around the temple, other than Malu?
A: Yes! Think of it as modern time, animal-wise. The Malu would thrive among other animals that you would find in a rain forest. The only released unrealistic animals to actual time are the Malu and Puku themselves.
Q: Do other animals have societies of their own?
A: While Malu have a near-human society, the other animals around them do not. They can communicate with the Malu and among themselves, but are otherwise non-sophisticated, and are not linked with the gods or the Malu.
Q: What do Malu eat?
A: Plants, berries, and insects.
Q: Are there predators of the Malu?
A: Yes, there are tigers, snakes, wild dogs .. you name it!
Q: What area do they live in?
A: Malu live in a desert-like area in the center of an Indonesian rainforest. The temple itself is on an oasis.
Q: How do I tell who colored my Malu?
A: Well, besides just asking, you might notice little details that may point you in the right direction. Spottedleef adds an extra layer of gloss to the hooves. [ kizamaji ] usually adds extra, colorful shading to the Malu. Each colorist has a unique style. After spending some time in the shop, you'll probably be able to look at the pets and tell who colored them.
Q: How often do Malu grow?
A: Usually, it depends on the colorist. Ideally, we want to grow them every week or so, depending on the Malu's current stage. However, sometimes it may even take a month or so for a Malu to grow from one stage to another; it varies.
Q: Can Malu fly?
A: No. Their wings are decorative; for most Malu they do not actually 'work'. The only exception would be Malu with the big Seraphim wings, as they *might* occasionally be able to glide short distances.
Q: Can Malu read and write?
A: They have a primitive written language, but due to their limited mobility (no thumbs, anyone?), it's relatively simple, and not everyone knows how to read or write--mostly just higher-ranking or very intellectual Malu.
Q: How do you tell the difference in baby Malu genders?
A: Females have extra eye lashes, while males don't.

We do many kinds of events here at Malukelb. If an event is to occur soon, the previews and instructions will be put on the 'bulletin board' here. :3
The only thing about our events that is set in stone is the price of Malu (if, that is, the event requires pay), which is 4k. Typically, 4k is the SB of auctions, aswell.
-~- Flatsale :
Flatsales are performed based upon the preference of the colorist at the time. It may be speed, flaffle, or whatever way they choose. The following technique is remaining here as both an example of what may be done, and for future staff reference.
We are going to do a new-ish kind of flatsale, as proposed by Nekoteya of Ghosts of Taraja, with the boycotting of the speed flatsale (as it is unfair to those with slower computers or internet services).
It's really quite simple. After I post 'GO!', in large, bold, red font, you will simply say something around the lines of, "I would like a try!", or really anything you want to say. xD Just please make sure that it is in bold, red font, or else I may not notice it.
Each person receives a number. After precisely twenty minutes, I will say 'STOP!', and no other requests will be accepted. I will then roll random numbers to determine the winners, much like a raffle.
Prize choises will be given out in order of winnings. Ex: First person to be rolled chooses first, second to have his/her name rolled chooses second, etc.
Remember;
-~- You may only claim one ticket/try.
-~- Winners must pay a fee of 4k.
-~- You may claim a ticket for yourself, and can proxy for only one person, and they must have posted in Malukelb before.
-~- No person may have more than one ticket.
-~- You may only win once.
-~- Anyone can try!
-~- You must have shown interest in the FS atleast 15 minutes beforehand in order to participate.
-~- Trivia :
During a trivia, I will ask 20-30 completely random questions. They could be about anything; movies, sports, news, Malukelb, even things about the owners.
Each question will be posted, one by one. The first person to get a question right will gain the set amount of points offered as a prize for that question. After this, I will post saying who got the points for that question.
Tallied points will be updated on the starter page of the trivia, and occasionally quoted farther into the game.
After asking these questions, the person with the most amount of points will recieve first choice, then the person with the second largest amount of points will get second choice, etc etc. Winners must pay a fee of 4k.
Please be aware, however, that Gaia is weird with numbers in quotes. Also understand that I am human, and can make mistakes. If you see something tallied up wrong, either I will have already noticed and am fixing it or you can point it out nicely. :3
-~- FS Previews
~ none
Good luck! heart

Before you roleplay, there are a few things you should know ~
Malu are a very complicated species, living in a functioning society of sorts.
They affect one another and their surroundings with belief. For example, say a band of Malu decide they will change the ideas of others. If they were, say, Malu following the God of Darkness, and they together started a successful cult that brought in more and more followers of the God, the nights would actually become longer and darker.
If all of the Malu believed solely in the God of Darkness, then there would be no day sky at all.
It works the same way inside the Malus' minds. If more Malu are feeling angry one day, even the most cheery characters will get a bit cranky. This demonstrates how they affect one another and their world so greatly, and also shows why chaos and war in the temple can be a dangerous occurence, indeed.
Because of the constant flow of belief in their primary Gods and Goddesses, the weather, world, and even the Malus' own minds, are often wavering constantly.
If your Malu will rise among the chaos in triumph, or create even more treachery and deceit ...
That is for you to decide.
----------------
Prior to roleplaying, I highly suggest you fully read the FAQs, Gods and Goddesses, and Packs posts as well. Also make sure to read the rules, as there are roleplay regulations in there.
Roleplay may take place in either the thread or guild.

The Malu have many individual interests, and may believe in multiple gods. However, there is one particular god or goddess that they have chosen and sworn to uphold in the strongest belief since their earliest years.
Malu may not always be able to choose their primary god. If the parents are strong believers of a particular faith, they may assign that faith to their children at birth; this, however, is the main reason for disloyalty in a pack. Malu are much more bound to their faith if they themselves choose it.
Malu can change their primary god or goddess, but in their society, doing so is an offense looked upon in disgust by many Malu, and so converters usually wind up lone and packless.
What about godless Malu? Theoretically, these can not exist. However, a Malu raised outside the confines of the temple by believing Malu might escape the influence of the temple gods, and thus end up believing in no one. However, s/he would be viewed as insane by other Malu, and if s/he spent any time in the temple, would slowly start to come under the thrall of the gods. Also, his/her offspring would be slightly more feral and less intelligent than the average Malu, and within three generations would be merely wild animals with no ability to think, speak, or reason.
Playing a godless Malu is not a thing we bestow lightly. If you are interested you must first PM the Malukelb mule with a lengthy PM about your Malu's proposed backstory and why you wish to play this Malu, and be prepared for the rejection you will almost certainly receive.

[This is just to help me keep track of which gods have been chosen by Malu as their primary faith in Malukelb. You may use them as ideas for your Malu's god, but you do not have to. In fact, we strongly encourage coming up with unique and specific gods for your Malu.]

Malu are placed in packs according to their belief. This, unfortunately, leads to families being seperated. Seeing as packs are typically not keen on other packs, seperated Malu find it hard, if ever, to see their kin again.
Packs usually have their own laws and codes, as well as one or a pair of alphas. Some may even have incredibly different intentions than others.
Thus far, we have four packs. Your Malu will be given to a pack depending on the god you have chosen for them to believe. Below are the four packs, along with examples of what followers might belong in each.
Please keep in mind that the gods and goddesses listed are only examples - you may choose whichever and whatever god you can come up with for your Malu, not just these.
-----------------
LOVE
love - motherhood - fatherhood - fertility - the harvest - health - friends - family - affection - children - ancestors - well-being - peace (absence of conflict) - compassion - honour - wisdom - intelligence - sacrifice (noble)
RIVALRY
war - animosity - hate - sadism - masochism - murder - sacrifice (physical) - conflict - injury - duels - fighting - territory - speed - strength - fortitude - willpower - leadership - loyalty - chivalry - gallantry
REVELRY
wine - gambling - laughter - food - conversation - wit - possessions - vanity - spirit - self - cunning - persuasion - thievery - charisma - fame - song - dance - story - ballads - poetry - frivolity - beauty
NATURE
winter - spring - summer - fall - ice - water - wind - fire - earth - wood - trees - sky - moon - sun - night - day - birds - stone - flight - stars - constellations - science - astronomy - astrology - natural order - chaos - flowers - light - dark
-----------------
Now, after seeing this list, you may be confused as to where your character will end up. Keep in mind that intentions and reasons for a belief count as well in the assigning of a pack.
For example, a follower of the God of Darkness would probably end up in the Nature pack .. but then you also may consider that she follows darkness because it is the most ideal time to strike an attack on another pack [the Malu would end up in Rivalry], rather than, 'Ooooh! Darkness = night, stars, moon = pretty. 8D' [in which the Malu would end up in Nature].
If you have a hard time determining where your Malu will be placed, feel free to post his/her god in the thread and its intentions (such as if the god chosen is admired for its good or bad traits/abilities) and we can tell you where to place it.
If you don't want to know before certing, that's fine, too. Your Malu's pack will be stated on the cert.
Also, nearly all Malu feel better in a pack, but there is the occasional drifter. Feel free to have loner Malu if you wish.

Although there are packs, no leaders have risen to the ranks. This is about to change!
At this present time, only four packs exist: Love, Rivalry, Revelry, and Nature. You may apply for your Malu to become an alpha of one of these existing packs, or you may devise your own rebel band/cult/gang/etc. that follows a different code than those of the temple, and is seperate from the four main packs. Each pack and band/cult/etc will receive its own RP subforum in the guild that will be moderated by the owner(s) of the alpha pair. Each OOC pack or band/cult/etc owner will be expected to maintain their group and start and complete at least one RP every two months. Should the owner(s) fail to do this, ownership of the pack will be given to the next person in line of IC hierarchy.
To apply to become an IC/OOC owner of one of the four packs, you must create an organized plot thread in the guild explaining the pack's laws, its extended beliefs, the hierarchy & line of succession, and other optional information. After a few applications for each pack have collected, the staff will choose the owners based on their thread/guild activity and the development and concept of their pack interest threads.
In the case that someone wins the ownership of a pack but does not own any Malu in said pack, spottedleef will give that person a pre-made Malu to become alpha.
- Available Packs: Nature, Love, Revelry
... something else is in the works for Rivalry!
A band/cult/gang/etc (which is unrelated to the four packs) must first consist of 10 Malu and 6 individual owners at minimum. Once you have met this requirement, PM its interest thread to the mule. If the provided information is satisfactory, a guild subforum will be made for the group. Should the group fall below three members, it will be disbanded, and you will loose the right to its subforum.

Breeding will almost always be open; after all, we like to reward those who make the time to roleplay and stay active in this thread. :3
Breedings are: OPEN
-----------------
-~- Are you ready to breed your Malu? -~-
- PM Malukelb with the below form. Please make sure to have all of the information filled out!
You must send a log, or links to roleplays done in or recorded (by re-posting RPs done in the thread) in the guild. These must be completed RPs! Each parent must have atleast five logs beforehand in order to breed. In the case that it is not a loner breeding, atleast one of these RPs must include both parents together, to assure us that they have actually met; however, not all of the roleplays logged may include both parents.
Each time you breed your Malu, you must use new roleplays to log; you cannot re-use them!
Malu have 1-6 pups per litter.
If you decide to send in ten roleplays for each parent, you will get an assured extra pup besides the one(s) rolled.
What are throwbacks? Throwbacks are pups that have some traits from generations beyond their parents, such as aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. If a pair of breeding Malu are of the first generation, and their owners have selected that they wish for throwbacks, we will make the earlier generations up, marking-wise. Saying 'yes' does not guarantee a throwback, however.
The colorist will roll random numbers to determine the litter size, and respond back to the form PM with the number of pups the Malu will have. The colorist may also roll random numbers to determine the genders of the pups, but you will not be informed of what genders they are until they arrive.

Both owners will be PMed when the pups when they arrive. After owners have been chosen, please respond back with name/gods/owner information for each of the babies.
You may only keep ONE of each of your Malu's pups. This includes multiple litters. The only ways to tip-toe around this rule is if you pay full custom price in order to keep an extra, or custom a baby into the litter.
You may not sell or trade pups. You may, however, hold a free (out of thread) RP contest, or give them away to friends or newbies. That, or, you are free to return them to the shop so that we can find a propor home for them, or even say that the pup/s died.
The owner of each pup must send a trade of 2k to Malukelb (mule).
-~- More Information -~-
Males can breed at any time with multiple females, while females must wait until their pups are adults before they can breed again.
If you cannot find your female a mate, breeding her to a 'Loner' is an option. This simply means she is breeding with a random Malu that is not in the shop, has no owner, and does not require logs. He could look like anything .. it's a mystery until you see the pups, who will look a bit like their father. =) Females who breed with loners can only have up to two pups (three, if you do ten logs).
