THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

So, your walking peacefully on the sidewalk of your desired street when suddenly everything goes black. You try to open your eyes, but either it’s too dark to notice, or your eyes are still closed. Air rushes past your face as if you’re falling down a hole, but suddenly that sensation stops.

Blackness surrounds you on all sides, but you hear a few giggles from the shadows as if you’re not alone. The lights slowly begin to brighten, and the first things that you notice are huge, luxurious windows covering all four walls of the box-like building, proudly displaying several pandas in each panel.

There is a huge sign that hangs down just in front of you that reads, ‘Welcome, newcomer, to The Panda Box’. You shake your head and stand up, blinking in the curious color scheme of the establishment.

The tables are perfectly round, with four chairs at each one. There are about ten tables scattered around the room- the tables themselves are black, the chairs white. The bar stretches from right beside you to half-way across the wall, with one end open for people to wander behind it. The countertop is white marble, the chairs black tile. It’s a self-serve bar.

As you walk into the main area, you glance behind you. The area that you came from has vanished, replaced with a gigantic still-life of a chibi-panda, obviously drawn by a skilled artist. Curious, you reach out to touch the portrait when a young child states loudly, “Don’t touch the art, please.”

You turn to study her when she abruptly appears in front of you, holding her hand out. “Welcome to The Panda Box. Exits are upstairs, and the fighting arenas are in the basement.” With that, she’s gone, but that secret smirk on her face lingers in your mind.

Figuring that you might as well check them out, you step towards the fluffy, white-clothed stairs leading downwards. There are exactly twenty-four steps into the basement, a fact that you notice for some odd reason. Once you step off the stairs onto the stone floor, you notice that it’s just a big empty space, perfect for fighting.

Shrugging, you turn back around, catching another glimpse of that strange girl again, behind the bar getting herself a drink. She lifts her head to look at you, but seeing that you’re staring, she fades from view again.

You venture upstairs- these stairs are black-carpeted, and once again there are twenty-four of them. At the twenty-fourth stair, you step onto a tiny landing only big enough for one person. There’s another panda picture on the wall opposite you, and when you reach out to touch it, everything goes black again.

When the lights come back on, you find yourself on the same street you were before, with a small hole in the sidewalk, and a sign with a happy panda pointing towards it. “Come back again.” You hear the voice of the child, and know that you’ll visit soon.
