a story where it kills to be perfect
There is a world where perfection is beginning to reign over all. The struggle to reach beauty and amazement has made this world come tumbling down. It has taught a lesson to the humans that inhabit this dying world, so they try to make their dwelling perfect. No competition, just grace. Every last city is elegant, every tile of every street is clean, and every house or store is gorgeous. Slowly, that’s come to an end. It started with a city on the Eastern Hemisphere of the world. It began around the corner of a street where a child cried, and from the darkness of the alleyway, he met his first friend.
This creature he befriended did not believe in the way that the beings were living their lives, still striving for perfection in their heart. It disgusted her. The child believed it, barely being manipulated for the fact that his mother left him forsaken so she could use the tidbits of money to make herself look better. The monster he happened to take as his friend was a form of darkness, almost like a goddess of the shadows. She soon came to be known as the Nightmare. The black of her abyss that was under her violent raven wings spread plague on the city and started to kill off the inhabitants.
On the other side of the city, a few days later, another child was tugged along by her mother. She wouldn’t stop thinking about her twin brother who they left behind days ago. They were running, running from the disease that contorted the town. Those that it didn’t kill seemed to make them go insane and malevolent. That’s what happened to her father. She was worried that her brother was caught in it, lying somewhere dead. She let go of her mother’s hand and watched the woman stop and stare angrily at her child. Seeing the shadows consume the streets a small distance off, the mother ran. She wouldn’t wait. The darkness ended up cornering her mother and put her to death.
The child, though, was saved by something incredible. Feathery wings and a comforting embrace, an angel had pulled her from the ground and took flight. He said nothing, but he knew a lot. He took the place of both parents that vanished to death, carrying her to the next city without even uttering his name. She simply called him Angel. And only he knew that Nightmare followed not far behind to the city they now nested in. Word had already reached the other cities of the slaughter the Nightmare has caused and that it was with a young boy. This made things difficult.
Most believed it was a rumor or a hoax to scare them into imperfection and to make them run screaming. To make them become primitive. There was also word that there were already a group of people that had formed to fight against the shadows, but they were weak. Known as the Masqueraders. Angel heard this and could only laugh. He knew they couldn’t destroy the Darkness because it was, and still is, his wife. She used to not care about the need to be flawless, and laughed at those who tried. She knew very well that it was impossible. But insecurities broke her down and she was corrupted by a malicious form that promised her good. Unable to say no, she was infected by the shadows.
Angel was quick, he found the Masqueraders and where they hid. There were eight. Only eight. They were burying their noses in books and spells, they wanted to learn ways to fend off the plague and scatter the dark. Quickly, he mustered them together without a word and led them into the dark woods away from the city. It was a few days walk, but they made it to the next. Two cities were plagued and dead while they moved on and the city they arrived in was half destroyed.
It was the perfect time. Only moments after they had reached the borders of the city, a shield blocked the outside world from the decaying area, trapping the Nightmare. She was strong, and could break through if she rested, but Angel and the Masqueraders must bring her down before she escapes. Every thing looked bright for them, until four of the Masqueraders turned on their friends. They had, this entire time, wanted to aid Nightmare in bringing down the prideful cities, in bringing the downfall of flawlessness. And so they left Angel, the child, and four of their old friends behind, slipping away into the ruins in search of Nightmare and her young companion. Now the question remains, how strong can Angel and the remaining Masqueraders stand to face the sinister power of his once loving wife?

Name: Eve Moon - Waverly
Alias: Nightmare
Age: 26
Side: Nightmare
Gender: Female
Spouse/Love: Angel/Thaniel
History: Eve lived a somewhat good life as a child. Her father was an alcoholic and sometimes beat her mother, so they divorced. She went with her mother willingly and happily. She had no brothers or sisters, but rarely did she get lonely. Her mother spent all the time she could with her daughter, but then the battle to perfection began. Her mom never did anything rash, but when they walked on the street, she saw children abandoned and people struggling for money. Every night, she found her mother silently fretting about becoming beautiful and happy. It drove her to a sad end. When Eve was 19, her mother grew very sick. The illness was terminal and the last thing she said to Eve before she died was, “You are perfect.”
One year later, Eve met a young man that she soon adored. At first, both were just friends, but she soon enough fell deeply in love. He, on the other hand, seemed to begin to separate from her, becoming scarce. She thought, as some women would, that he had no feelings for her, but she would be soon to learn that it was something entirely different. When she did learn that her love was an angel and that he had fallen for her as well, she was relieved and couldn’t love him any more. They were together for the next few years, but on her twenty-fifth birthday, he asked her to marry him. A few months later, they were wed. She never breathed a word of his secret, just as she had promised him, and she loved him no differently.
And yet, the perfection that diseased the few remaining cities were sad as it had destroyed the world. She tried to ignore it, always thinking of her mother’s last words, but her insecurities got to her as men and women stuck up their nose to her. She said nothing to her spouse, and continued to try and live on until she found something calling for help in a small alleyway. She, being as kind as she was, quickly went to the aide of an old woman that had fallen and could not rise. Eve helped her up, and the woman told her for a reward for being kind, she gave Eve a box. She told her that another woman had given it to her as well, and told the old woman that it would bring glory, beauty, and realization. She had not opened it, because she figured she was just too old.
Eve took it home and opened it while her husband was away. Inside was nothing but black and it consumed her body like an infection. She left home and never returned. She left behind the box that dripped with black and a bloody rug as the darkness had reconfigured her body. This is the evidence that her love had to come home to and quickly know the evil to come.
Personality: Eve: Loving, kind, caring, and humorous. Nightmare: Silent, hateful, brooding, destructive, protective.
Appearance: Eve has been distorted by the shadows and so, she has many forms. The appearance of her human form resembles who she once was besides a few faults. Her hair is long, flowing, and raven black. Her hair may spread out and become the wings that spread the plague when she changes to the form of a large, violent bird. Her complexion is deathly pale, enough to see veins in her hands, sides of her face, neck, and arms that carry the ebony blood in her body. She stands at a good 5’9”, her body slim and athletic. Her eyes are demonic and dead; they’re pitch black. But if it is found possible to scratch away some of the darkness from her, they reveal a little bit of light blue that was once her elegant eye color.
Attire: When Eve is in her human form, the shadows twist into whatever clothing she may need. Usually a black dress or a tank-top and pants.

Name: Thaniel Waverly
Pronunciation: (Than-yull) (Wave-er-ly)
Alias: (The) Angel
Age: 28
Side: The Cure. (Redemption)
Gender: Male
Spouse/Love: Eve/Nightmare
History: Born into light. Nothing less but so much more. A sinless and perfect being in every aspect and way.
They call these creatures of bliss angels.
No mother or father of flesh, this angel was born like every other. Of light and of darkness.
Given to poor family that lived on the outskirts of town, Thaniel was the blessing they’d been searching for, for nearly 50 years.
An old couple, far too old to have a child; on and evening walk they’d found the babe wrapped in a ratty cloth and lying beside a dumpster. He looked so peaceful though. Not even crying about the cold or about his hunger. The older couple had thought him dead. But soon the child awoke and with eyes that gleamed with happiness and light, he gazed up at his newfound family. And they knew he was heaven sent.
Maybe it was the fact that the babe never cried. Or how he was the gift they’d wanted and finally received. But something’s telling me it was the small, fragile pair of pure white wings that tucked ever so closely to his back.
The couple realized that their ‘son’ was an angel. A blessing beyond blessings. But the would could never know.
Raised as a poor boy was, he worked hard and did all he could to help. His mother was far too old and brittle to truly do anything, though she worked as a cook anyways. His father and he spent most of his childhood working long hard hours for little pay. Doing odd jobs about the city. Cleaning and fixing things. Building fences and sheds. Doing all the electric work and piping for certain buildings. Hard jobs but they needed the money.
Thaniel, despite the odds, was always optimistic and humble. Sharing even with those more fortunate then he and polite no matter who you were or how you treated him. A true angel, through and through.
…
On his 16th birthday, his mother died.
Happily she went, with her son’s hand to guide her to heaven.
She had been in pain for weeks, and being earth bound, there wasn’t too much Thaniel could do. His powers were heaven connected, and his Father had reason for not letting him use them.
‘Your will be done…’
His earthly father passed during the night; following his beloved to heaven with the promise that they would see their son again.
And so Thaniel was left alone in the world.
An angel hidden among humans to fend and live for himself.
The secret was hard to keep.
…
He’d never gone to school.
His family didn’t have enough money. So of a good job, Thaniel never got.
Living alone in the same vacant and closed down apartment building he’d lived his whole life, the young angel worked all hours of the day to feed himself and take care of himself as much he could.
Eventually, he enrolled himself into a local high school and spent one year there as a senior. He had knowledge much beyond his years. Never speaking much, but knowing more then any could dream.
Using his powers, he’d made up a previous school document so he could graduate and receive his diploma. College was a must in this world.
And so, his career life started and he became a student of a very prestigious college. His knowledge and hard working skills had brought him up to the top 4 students at his high school, and so a scholarship was an easy thing to get.
…
He was 20 years old when his life changed forever.
20 years old when he met here…
All his life he’d never laid eyes on something more beautiful… something more extraordinary then a young human girl named Eve.
They met at a small café downtown.
She’d dropped something whilst walking out, and being the gentleman he was, returned it to her.
A force beyond his control had animated his mind and his tongue and the next thing he knew he was meeting her daily at this location and time.
The two became fast friends, but he had fallen in love the first time he heard her speak.
Thaniel courted the young woman for a time, and soon they both shared the passion he’d felt the day they met.
But… there was one very large problem.
And they were tucked safely away under a various array of jackets he wore every day.
…
How do you tell your love that you’re an angel?
How do you even start?
What if it frightened her and drove her away?
What if she didn’t believe him and hated him for lying?!
What if she simply didn’t know how to react and stopped speaking to him?
The young angel just didn’t know what to do and the last thing he wanted was to lose her.
So slowly, he back away.
Becoming a bit scarcer.
Harder to find.
Busy.
Until he finally mustered up the courage to tell her.
‘She loves me… she’ll understand.’
And to the utmost happiness of his heart, she did.
But he made her promise never to tell a soul. For if she ever told someone of what he truly was, his existence would be no more. His body and soul would simply disappear and of Thaniel, it would be as if he never was,
…
Two years later.
Two wonderful years later.
On Eve’s 25th birthday, he asked for his love’s hand in marriage.
The two were wed a few months after.
And for her love. For her acceptance of who and what he was. For never breaking the promise she’d made never to tell a soul. Thaniel loved this young woman with all of his heart, all of his soul, and so much more then that.
They were happy. Actually happy!
And in this world, that was the rarest of gems among coal and stone…
….
Something happened though….
Something completely unexpected took Thaniel’s life by storm.
He was 28 when his beloved disappeared.
And all she left in her wake was a box dripping with darkness…
His worst fear had become reality.
His wife. His beautiful bride was now darkness. The thing of which he fought.
His polar opposite and most hated enemy.
Can one truly love that which they hate?
Yes… because he loved her no different and swore to have her back.
…
Now, Thaniel travels from city to city, following in destructions wake with only a few friends by his side.
He’d saved a young give from Nightmare’s grasp and was come to be known as (The) Angel.
No one knew who he was, and that’s why his soul wasn’t destroyed. But his ‘secret’ was out, and people looked to (The) Angel for help.
Angel, accompanied by a group called the Masqueraders and a child, now step forth to face their greatest enemy yet.
Thaneil’s love, Eve.
And Angel’s enemy Nightmare.
In this battle of love and hate, two souls and one body; will good prevail?
It’s always been said that love will find a way… And that’s what keeps him fighting with every single breath.
Personality: Thaniel: Loving. Humble. Kind and caring. A gentleman above all. In this young man, chivalry is far from dead. He loves his wife Eve with every drop of blood in his body and would do anything for her. Angel: Loving and kind, but silent and knowing. An immense amount of strength and will power, and a determination beyond belief. No one knew much about (The) Angel, only that he was the key. The cure to this plague. The hero the stand against. Like I said, he barely ever spoke, so no one knew a thing. And of Thaniel? No one but the few who knew him in life knew he ever existed. And those who vaguely thought of him believed him to be dead and swallowed by the darkness. There was no connection between the loving and hard working Thaniel and this savior that stepped forth from the light.
Appearance:Angel/Thaniel
That’s what he looked like in both human and angel form, but like I said, no one really knew Thaniel and so made no connection. Add a pair of large, pure white wings and you’ve go angel.
Attire: No longer is among the world of ‘humans’ and so, his attire stays as is in the picture. Chest and torso section exposed mostly but arms covered by the long soft blue sleeves with black cuffs. The ‘scarf’ of satin and silk wrapped around his lower abdomen was tied but the tails of either end hung/flowed loosely behind him. Large, baggy pants hung loosely off his slender waist, dipping more to one side a majority of the time. Tight black shoes that looked no more like a piece his thick material with a hard bottom covered his feet. Flexible and lithe to every whim of his feet. A small pouch hung from either side of his pants to hold various objects and the other things about his clothes in the picture were as thus, but I don’t believe I need to take the time and explain every last stiching.

Username: The Manikin.html
Name: Isabella Estoire
Alias: The Puppet
Age: 26
Side: Nightmare
Gender: Female
Spouse/Love: Adrian Moirea-Deceased.
History: Born as a flawless child, with the only issue being her health in which she was a fragile woman, and grew sick easy. She caught things far too quickly and by far she was one to wear a mask frequently that covered her lips and noise. It was where she inhaled, and in the winter or when it was chilly she'd often have to wear the biggest and warmest attire. As a child she was often pushed away from social life, and although doctors provided things like pills to improve her immunity it had little affect if not less. One had simply taken in great improvement that decreased with each amount she took the next day to keep it activated in her system. As a toddler she was left with home schooling and perhaps play mates that often found her strange although she seemed happily left beautiful in complexion and portion in her features. There was nothing important in her life until she had met Adrian at a teenager age, where supposedly her face would soon be in the predicament of harm.
Yet it didn't seem to matter that Adrian was flawed, he had imperfections of being too skinny although Isabella ate less then him, his head had no hair and Bella's hair had briefly been ruined with a pair of scissors she'd found, his eyes, they differed in color, one a rather sharp and pale as well hazy eye that it commonly intimidated the most and he had scars all over his body although not obvious at first. Her interest was clearly sparked though and at that time she felt awkward and timid. Yet Adrian, he produced smiles and conversations. They grew to be great friends and her mother however happy was disappointed. Her mother never thought Isabella would fall in love with a boy as ugly nor grow too attached. Her nick name of Izzy had emitted then, childishly she liked the name and perhaps it was wrong to haven grown attached to a boy like Adrian. He was as ill as Bella, and yet he had the outside world. Adrian told her all about school leaving the parts where he was often bullied and he left out that he visited the doctors that tried to improve him and yet he was getting worse.
It went on for several years; they were similar to brother and sister. That was all acknowledged and that was all that could have been known. Bella knew she had loved him but never took to saying it. He was too happy and she never saw his scars until she had grown curious of how he looked. Adrian often fell asleep on the floor in Isabella’s home with the certain days that came along, and he often visited on his own terms but felt tired. Bella's mother busy with other things and barely took to acknowledging the fact that Bella and Adrian seemed to be growing closer in relationship. However that day, when Bella was ever so curious, she had pulled on the boy's sleeve and then prodded at a scar, waking him. He instantly woke and grasped her arm with urgency that proved to scare her into whimpering in a sense. That day explanations were made, he was hit once by a group of kids but most of all they were needles used from doctors.
She was alarmed, and quickly began to cry, and she had ignorantly though she'd given him her disease, the disease that pulled at her, giving her illnesses even in a house, with a mask and in bed. He was all the more startled, held her and told her it was alright. Affection that soon brought kisses and words of love. Perhaps it would have never worked but that never came to be experienced, her mother found them and split them apart. Soon Isabella was lectured about how she should be a lady, her mother told her she'd be married to someone handsome, that she'd be with someone right for her and everything dulled. Isabella soon became wary but obedient. She was defiant in being optimistic, and yet her actual last day with Adrian was when he had showed up outside her window.
Such a dramatic romance, he had been beaten, or something, he had fresh scars and bruises. Isabella saw how ill he was, and instantly tried to make him feel better. She understood difference was usually shamed upon; she learned that and found it disgusting and it made her rage appear because he died in her home. An investigation made out of it, but most finalized it as a natural death, the bruises and cuts ignored. If anyone called her Izzy she'd grow angry and she refuses to be called by that name. Bella perhaps or Isabella but Izzy is a name that will cause a reaction. She had hit a boy who'd called her that with wicked force when he refused to stop doing so when she asked him firmly to stop; it was a boy her mother set her up when she had appeared so gloomy.
Time grew on and no one seemed to care, she had soon inflicting herself with scars, ranging from the back of her neck, along her arm and along her stomach or perhaps along her leg. She imperfected herself but not so as much so her mother would notice, but that had gotten her into a coma state, sending her into the hospital for at least year or just very long months. The scars were taken note of and she was sent to therapy after and she stopped after the therapy because she had finished the arranged scars. Her mother unhappy and although Isabella wanted her mother's approval it proved less important time to time.
Likes: Dolls, Children, Scars, Books, Sculptures, Paintings, Sketches, Birds, Glass Art, Large Churches, Ancient Places, Imperfections, Rain, Moon, Cats, Snakes, Winter, ....
Dislikes: Hospitals, Arrogance, Blood, Needles, Being called 'Izzy', Summer, Sun, Alarming Sounds, Screams, ....
Personality: Kind and motherly yet on the inside range and sorrow burns in her heart, it is obvious that she is a complex person. The actions she hold for others are do to understanding, as if she feels she must be kind although she shouldn't do so because of her siding but it appears it occurs. She acts with care of other's feelings and apologizes for her mistakes but also acts on her own accord. Although she is generous and loving, she appears distant, and lost although she may be smile and conversing with someone. Loving to humor and cheer someone from their certain troubles. Eager to be generous and give those who need it the most what they need but she is a fair judge of heart, if she finds she dislikes you then it only means she won't go the extra length. Her actions commonly wise and her forgiveness easy, she appears to be a rather optimistic woman with a heart of gold.
Appearence: "Bella..."
Attire: Corsets and fancy dresses, her attires are usually complicated but elegant may it be a jump suit of some sort or the common gown. It is through fine punishment that she has a habit of dressing like she is going to a ball and although now she really does have a mask she is commonly seen with jewelry also and tall heeled shoes. Stitches or added pieces, high collars or perhaps the frill along the end of the sleeves going over her wrist and perhaps a flowing bottom that went outward. The dress usually made of a similar color to the ribbon of her masque.[/

A dark shadow flowed along the ground like silk, the form slowly narrowing. It tightened around the air in a cylinder kind of way, and long strands of thread bowed out and became solid. The darkness had changed into a large king cobra, the scales a sickening black. Its hood was fully spread out, deadly white fangs were bared and mouth wide open. It moved about the rubble, looking for signs of death. That's how she fed. That's how she gained power.
The Nightmare slowed its pace and tasted the air with its long serpentine tongue. Its body violently contorted and it raced to a corpse sprawled across the ground. Its teeth grappled the leg of the being, and its body began to morph again. Her eyes went white and her body grew. Long arms broke from the scales and skin. Vicious claws and teeth were bared with a malevolent smile. A long tail curled behind and ears poked out from the top of the head. It was a wolf-like creature, but it incessantly dripped with the plague.
The monstrocity lowered its muzzle and ripped at the repulsive flesh. It was not the meat, or the blood that she needed. It was the fact that it had been killed by the plague. This made it reek with death and destruction. That's what it needed. That's what this creature fed upon. In only moments had it finished its meal and when it was done, it changed back to a blob of darkness and began to snake away. She had a child to watch over.

A little past ten and the sun had set. Though, throughout the cloudy day, the sun hadn’t mattered.
Eyes the colors of a changing sea gazed out over the vast ruin that was once a city.
A pallid hand was placed against a metal beam that supported a radio tower.
Wings of white tucked close to his back, but exposed to the world all the same.
Among this world of nightmare and death, this lone figure was known as The Angel.
…
Darkness had taken his wife a short time back.
She’d become the Nightmare herself, and he’d do anything to get his Eve back.
After saving a little girl from a most horrifying demise, he’d taken on a very small companion and soon picked up a few more.
Some odd organization that thought they could stop Nightmare themselves.
Boy… they just never learn.
…
Angel joined up with this small gang for about half of them had been on Nightmare’s side the whole time!
And now they were stationed at this abandoned building on the very edge of the city.
Eve… She was somewhere in there… Somewhere in that mess.
Who am I kidding? She made that mess!
No… Nightmare did… not Eve. No /his/ Eve.
…
Like a guardian angel, he looked over the small group he’d come to befriend.
And that little girl…
Out of everyone in this party, she’d be the last person he’d let get hurt.
There was something special about her…
Father had a plan.
And now, lips shut but eyes open, he looked to the heavens for guidance.
Tonight would be quite a night.
And victory was a hope with the morning sun...

The figure rippled along the ground like a visible pulse, sending small shockwaves of shadows. Every slender inch of its body was wicked. Every tiny bit was filled with death. That's what made it the perfect disease. All of its imperfections were what made this monster perfect. It was just as the woman had told. But no, it did not bring glory. It brought her to be infamous. It helped her teach a lesson.
It had left her hiding spot after settling her child to bed. It was not the Nightmare that nurtured this child. It was Eve. Her motherly and kind soul shone through the black as she remembered the children that were forsaken on the streets. It was because of the desire to be flawless that this happened. It was a horror that needed to be destroyed. Only now could she do something about it.
With a heave, darkness spread about into large wings and a body thickened between them. Feathers dripped with poison all over the ground like blood and large, wide, white eyes pointed towards the sky. The monstrosity. The bird. The spreader of the plague. It lifted towards the sky and moved swiftly to the edge of one part of the city. There was a bit of the closed off area she had yet to destroy, and some beings were unlucky enough to not escape it time.
The creature spread out the oozing wings, two figures that symbolized a sad and horrible death. And dripped from them were shadows...the virus. Faint screams sounded from below as they thought they had a chance of hiding. They thought they could get away. When all inside the shield was black, it dropped from the sky like it had been shot. Slowly, the disgusting ooze fell away from a young woman. Her features were frightening; long, black hair that seemed to have a life of its own, curling, disapating, and coiling into the air. White skin with some of her ebony colored veins showing...
She was breathing in and out hard, her dead eyes staring off. She was getting weaker every time she spread the plague, but she'd be able to feed after the terminal illness took effect. Her mind suddenly came to a halt. "Terminal...illness..." Through the black of her eyes showed a bit of ice blue, surprising and secret. On the first word of her voice, it sounded like two women spoke at once. One soft and elegant. Eve. One deep and dark. Nightmare. But on illness, there was no Nightmare. Shortly after, the blue was swallowed up so there was no more Eve. Just a human-like figure with shadows curling from her hair and wrapping around her body to make up for clothes.
The night...it will build her strength. She must breathe it in, and hopefully by tomorrow, she'll be able to break through.
