"Hurry up! You'll be late!" shouted Sayuri_Nitta across the airport. Jiraiyah came hurrying up to the others.
"What's the hold up?"
"Sorry...traffic jam..." muttered Jiraiyah panting. Jynk started to complain, but she stopped dead short as the speakers announced that the plane to Australia was about to leave.
"Finally!" SeenoEvil muttered. She put down the book she was reading, Your Guide to Australian Animals, and hurried in line to get on the plane. A few minutes later, the four were on the plane and chattered excitedly.
"I can't wait till we get there! I've never been to Australia before, let alone their safari!" said Jiraiyah excitedly.
"I bet we'll see lots of species, eh?"
"Yup! I read theres Echidnas and Platypus and Koalas..."
They continued on this topic for quite a time, until the captain had announced that the plane was going to land. But soon the four were dragging their luggage across the terminal.
"Who's going to pick us up?" said Sayuri_Nitta as she peeked through the crowds of people.
"Look! Over there!" Jynk said as she pointed. A particularly grumpy man was standing around, waving a cardboard sign, reading 'To Kiari Safari'.
Sayuri_Nitta, SeenoEvil, Jynk and Jiraiyah picked up their luggage and walked over to the man.
"You the four headin' ov'ah to Kiari?" said the man gruffly.
"Yes, thank you," Jynk answered for the three.
"Follow me."
The man led them onto a large, worn out Jeep and they all piled on.
"Wow! Look at this place! They've got everything!" Jiraiyah exclaimed as they had reached the safari. It was true. Tasmanian Devils were spotted here and there, and every tree seemed to hold at least one Koala, chewing on it's leaves. A few Platypus crowded around a small pool, lazily crawling about. The four got out, thanked the man and went to their room. They soon were unpacked and decided that they should see the reserve. So they did.
"Look at the size of that Koala!" said Sayuri_Nitta, pointing at a particularly large Koala chewing off leaves.
"Hey...guys..." Jynk wasn't looking at the Koala. She was pointing towards a small, worn out pathway among the trees.
"Whats that doing there?" Jiraiyah muttered questioningly. "It looks like it hasn't been used in ages."
"Do you think that we should go follow and see where it leads to?"
"I don't know...what if we get lost?" Sayuri_Nitta said nervously.
"Oh, don't be such a chicken. Come on, guys." And with that, Jynk had stepped through the leaves and was soon following the path. The others started trailing after her, Sayuri_Nitta last. After a long time of considerable walking, they had reached a large gate, made out of wood. It had rotted many times, with vines twirling around it.
"It...looks like an old reserve..." Jynk said in wonder.
"I know...lets go check it out," said SeenoEvil. The girls stepped cautiously towards the gate and opened it a crack.
Immediatly the four had stepped into another world, a large jungle. Wallabies, Koalas, Echidnas...they were alll there. A small Bushbaby trudged up towards Sayuri_Nitta, and leant to touch her.
"What are you doing here?"
Suddenly another voice echoed around the forest. An old man was fraily walking towards them.
"This is Walkabout Creek. You should not be here."
"I'm sorry..we just got lost and followed a pathway..." said Jynk. The old man looked at the Bushbaby.
"We'll go if you want," said SeenoEvil. The old man snapped his head.
"No. It is getting dark, I give you house for the night. My name is Erick."
Soon, the next morning the four girls rose to thank Erick and to be on their way. The same Bushbaby from last night followed them curiously, beside Sayuri_Nitta.
"Maybe it likes you," said Jiraiyah.
Erick was standing beside the gate, and he had expected the four. He looked down at the Bushbaby.
"She trusts you. You interested in animals?"
The four nodded. "Very interested. We want to work with animals," replied Jynk. The other three nodded in agreement. Erick seemed to think.
"Hm. I have favour to ask of you. You see...I am very old and I cannot be as active as I was before. Soon I might even pass away. So I want you to take care of Walkabout Creek with me."
The four seemed taken aback. Their own reserve? It was almost too good to be true. They had always wanted their own reserve...
"Will you?" Erick asked.
"We will."
The four girls answered together.
