Answer:

arrow #1 rule when asking to get rated: WEAR CLOTHES!Or at least something other than the items you were given when you started. sweatdrop I cannot stress that enough.
arrow You are supposed to model your avatar's fashion in here. This means to go to your inventory by clicking the profile link at the top right hand corner of the page. Look in your inventory and find out what looks best on you. Then come back here and model what you have by either:
exclaim 1) Start a topic, asking to get rated.
exclaim 2) Post in a I'll rate you thread.
exclaim 3) Look at the sticky at the top of the page that says Rate the Avatar above you. Post there and someone will rate you after you rate the one above you.
exclaim 4) Join contests to find out if your look can top someone elses.
arrow Ice T's sitcky,Avatar Contest FAQ and Directory, is what you should look at when starting a contest and if you wanted to get rated there, you can. All you have to do is post and ask. Please do not bump it. It doesn't need to be bumped. You have been warned! evil
arrow Candycrack's Avatar Talk 101 has all the information you need when starting a topic/thread and some tips that might help you win contests 3nodding
arrow Cognizance's Guide to Judging Avatar Contests should help you in judging contests, if you want to become a judge. 3nodding

arrow stare Don't create more than one thread of the same topic in less than an hour. It is annoying and shows that you haven't the slightest clue to what you are doing.
arrow Substituting the word Rape for Rate has been done many times in here. Is shows your ignorance and is very offensive in here. Please refrain from doing so. Need further proof?
Or go to the announcement about Concerning Rate/Rape me threads
arrow If you can't take a rate, don't ask to get rated at all.

The "Ra[p/t]e me" and molestation threads need to stop. Now. neutral
We (as in the Gaia Online Staff) understand that this is done in jest between a lot of the regulars, but rape and molestation are two very serious subjects and need to be handled in a more appropriate manner. These threads aren't found quite as funny as you may think by people who are actual victims of either action and I have received a few PMs from people who are greatly offended by such behavior.
On Gaia Online, we encourage a friendly atmosphere which all users are expected to be respectful to each other, so I would appreciate it if we kept this PG13+ behavior outside of AT. 3nodding

- exclaim Tip: Vote in the polls. It will help you gain some gold.
exclaim Tip: Join some contests that have a theme the same as your avatar.
exclaim Tip: Ask to get rated and ask for some suggestions to help improve your Avatar
exclaim Tip: Try saving up your gold and not become an impulse buyer. Settle for cheaper clothes, for now, and wait until you have enough to buy with some spare change.
exclaim Tip: The top 5 reasons you won't be Inuyasha:

exclaim Tip: When entering contests, host it from either a Photobucket.com account, Tinypic.com (if you don't want to use photobucket), or another picture hosting site, or it might show up as:

exclaim Tip: Don't bump your thread with a rate request. It gets annoying

You shold tell them that the threads at the bottom of the page are usually dead. So don't post in them, I just posted in a thread that had been abandoned for 40min that some new person bumped up with a rate request.
